Teenage Death/Black Metal Fan Arrested In Killing Of Radio Journalist

The 16-year-old boy arrested in the fatal stabbing of the radio journalist George Weber was a death/black metal fan who used MySpace to profess his love for sex, violence, knives and Satanism, according to Gawker.com. He was ordered held without bail late Wednesday on charges of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Officials said the teenager, John Katehis (pictured below), of East Elmhurst, Queens, New York apparently answered a Craigslist ad in which Weber, 47, sought a sexual partner, according to The New York Times. The police believed Weber planned to pay Katehis for sex. The police commissioner, Raymond W. Kelly, said that the two had arranged to meet on Wednesday, March 18 in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, but rescheduled the meeting for Friday evening. Katehis's MySpace page, which was taken down Wednesday, said he enjoyed "drinking, bike riding, hanging out, roof hopping, hanging off trains," and "extreme violence (chaos, anarchy, etc ...) video games, violent movies and listening to my iPod." "I am an extremist, an anarchist and a sadomasochist. As long as you show respect for me, I will show respect for you." But it warned that if he were not shown respect, he would "break your neck." His playlist on MySpace included selections from DIMMU BORGIR, NAGLFAR and MARILYN MANSON. Read more on this story from The New York Times.

Really sick of the media using the persons musical tastes as a reason for their actions. I think there's more to it than... he listened to Black Metal.
If you watch his other youtube stuff he actually made some pretty good prank calls. I felt guilty about laughing at them since he is now a killer.
Anyway the article makes it look like he went just to stab the guy. For all we know a whole bunch of other stuff happened.
If it was obvious he went to kill the guy he would have gotten charged with murder one not murder two. Don't be so quick to judge.
I'm surprised they release his name and picture since he's a minor. I guess it doesn't matter in the states.

Allways blame the music huh. Not the kid himself. What about the parents? Aren't they supposed to know what their kids are doing. Didn't they saw the mini sword he is holding? never had the idea to ask what the hell he had that for? Music is a "convenient" explanation but the truth lies in the familly of this guy.
I grew up with all kinds of music: Priest, Slayer, Celtic Frost and still i am a 37 years old Buddhist!!! believe me, killing is not on my to do list.

I still think it's funny that everyone is passing judgement on this kid as being a psychopath. What fucking 47 year old man meets a 16 year old boy to pay him for sex? For all you know this Weber guy showed up with a fucking glock.

This kid has thrown his life away trying to be macho. It's not worth it, just walk away from problems and live your life peacefully. Self defense is the only excuse for violence. His picture was on the NY Post yesterday with another knife and wearing a "Lamb of God" T shirt. He was indeed a heavy music fan, but now he's going to be outside the scene for a while. It will be an interesting case to follow.

Most of you tools (commenting) have probably not bothered to read the initial reports which tell of the kid answering a criegslist ad for "rough sex" - that he was on drugs - that he claims the guy pulled a knife on him - that he managed to get take the knife away from the guy and stabbed him multiple times.
For all any of you know, the kid may have simply been defending himself, but did so in a drug fueled rage. However it goes, if the kid's story is true, I hope he gets all the help he obviously needs.

I read about this story in AM New York this morning on my way to work and i couldn't help but notice that he was wearing a Cannibal Corpse T-shirt. For some reason i knew that the media was going to pick this up and run with it. Bottom line, this kid has some serious problems. To me its like a child who watches professional wrestling and takes it very seriously. There is art and expression and then there is real-life. Unfortunately, some of us can't tell the difference. But the fact that he enjoys death-metal/black-metal is irrelavant. There are many of us who like this kind of music who live healthy productive lives. I just think its sad that there still is this correlation between this kind of behavior and heavy metal in 2009.

It seems every time that someone who is a metal fan commits murder, the media and watchdog/concerned parents groups seem to pick up on it and beat the public over the head. But when someone who listens to, say, country music commits murder, the watchdog groups/concerned parents groups don't mention a thing about their taste in music.
They think it is 100% necessary to point out and emphasize it if a killer likes metal music, but if they like country music, to keep silent. That's a double standard.

The fact of the matter isnt that this kid was a "metal head" or not; he was also obviously fuckin psycho! I think that people need to pull their heads out of their asses and not use the media as a scapegoat towards the actions that others take. This guy was in complete control of his actions; video games, music and literature have nothing to do with what he did to the reporter because in the end it literally was in his hands.
