METALLICA's Making ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME Induction A 'Family Reunion' - Mar. 27, 2009
Gary Graff of Billboard.com reports: METALLICA is using its upcoming Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction to stage what drummer Lars Ulrich calls "a sort of family reunion."

"I don't think there's a better time to come together than when it's about celebration," Ulrich tells Billboard.com. "I think everybody is proud of their association (with METALLICA), so we're reaching out to everybody who's been a part of this, both inside the band on and on the periphery of the band over the years. And there's a big group of people coming to Cleveland for the weekend, so I look forward to seeing a lot of people I haven't seen for a long time."

The METALLICA guest list for the April 4 induction includes staffers from the band's previous labels, Megaforce and Elektra, journalists and photographers who have been supportive over the group's career, producers and musician friends.

is dave going?
seems only right....the first 3 records have him all over 'em....not to start a big shit throwing debate....but those first 4 recording is what people think when they remember metallica....no the alice in chains/danzig 90's or the "fuck! we have to put out a new record?" '00's....if i was to induct anyone....it would be the "kill 'em all" line up with dave..and jason added...fuck robert...he's just there to wear basketball jerseys and bring in the "korn" crowd!

I think Dave should be there, because of how metallica got popular in the underground days, and the fact his tunes were used on the first bunch of LP's.

BUT, The rock hall of fame is abou the FIRST MAJOR RELEASE from a band, and KILL EM ALL does not have Dave as a player......still I think it would be awesome if he was there.

As for Rob, he;s in the band now, and he's NO KORN nu metal type of a player. Anyone who thinks so is an IDIOT. ROBERT is 1 of the most skillful players out there.

Listen to INFECTIOUS GROOVEs or LIGHTS CAMERA by Suicidal Tendencies.

Robert has got some JACO PASTORIUS skills!!!!!!

thought Dave declined due to "personal reasons"? i think he's busy with recording and such, isn't he? I personally am not a huge Megadeth fan or a fan of Mustaine's voice, but I do believe he should be there, as he was in Metallica in the beginning. gotta give respect where it's due

Metallica invited Mustaine, but he declined. He said it was because he's touring and "busy." Sounds like he prefers to keep Metallica at arm's length so he can continue his 25-year legacy of bitching and moaning about them.

One of the criteria to be eligible is to be a recording artist for 25 years right? Bob Rock has played on Metallica albums, Dave Mustaine hasn't.
Even though Dave Mustaine undeniably contributed to defining Metallica's sound, Does Bob Rock have more of a claim to attending and being part of the celebrations?
Bob Rock has had a big influence on Metallica's commercial success and therefore mainstream acceptance of Metallica, without which they would not even be considered for an award/recognition of this kind.
...Dave Mustaine should be there though.

Uh, whatever dude. I think Dave is busy (business anyone) and that is that, and the guy bitching is you. And Dave has the 25-yr legacy of great metal making. He's the man. Deal with it, biotches.

of all the bands, musicians that have either influenced Mtallica or of all the bands they've influenced in the metal world and fucking Flea inducts them? What a joke. typical Rock and Roll hall of fame bullshit. why any metal band/fan/reporter supports this shit is beyond me. i love the fact that the sex pistols didn't show...and they still put them in.

Its been 25 freakin years. Get over it people. Dave isn't in the band. He's awesome but he's not a member. He screwed it up for himself by being a junky! And don't forget he's also the worlds biggest dick! When I was 16 , I met him and he had me play the guitar solo to 5 Magics backstage before a concert. I missed one note. But no pat on the back, just a snotty assed " you missed a note!" and "I don't hold my hand like that when I play it!" Fuck you Dave!!!

Metallica did the right thing by inviting Dave to be there. He contributed alot of riffs and his own personal creativity (which I consider intellectual property). And helped the band become what they are today. His creativity is as unique as any other musician or artists is. He may not have been on a record but he helped shape their early music. I understand that the celebration is for anyone who played on a record but if the band chooses to celebrate this way I think it's great. And yes... Cliff's family should be there.

Was it posted on here? I must have missed it. Even if it's true, it's out of spite, to rub it in his face. Mustaine took the high road to tell them to fuck off.

As far Mustaine crying, he has every right to. He wrote the majority of Kill em all, and Hammett played Dave's solos note for note. Dave has stated this word for word in many interviews.

No one blames James and Lars for tossing Dave out, but even to this day, refuse to give him his due for his part in getting it all started.

Why is it that the "is Mustaine going to be there?" garnering as much press as the actual induction?
