SLASH Commences Recording Solo Album
- Mar. 27, 2009
|
|
|
Former GUNS N' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER guitarist Slash has commenced recording his debut solo album with Josh Freese (A PERFECT CIRCLE, NINE INCH NAILS) on drums, Chris Chaney (JANE'S ADDICTION) on bass, and Eric Valentine (SMASH MOUTH, THIRD EYE BLIND, GOOD CHARLOTTE) in the producer's chair. Slash says, "I know you're saying, 'Didn't Josh play with Axl's GUNS N' ROSES?!' He did in the '90s for a while but left after a couple years, so I don't know if it counts much. Besides, that doesn't undermine that he is an amazing drummer."
Regarding which singers will guest on his upcoming CD, Slash said, "Unfortunately, I can't divulge that info yet, but you'll know soon enough. I will say, however, that they are fantastically talented songwriters who it's been an honor to work and write with, to say the least."
Slash's wife Perla Hudson said in a video interview at Rockerrazzi.com that both Ozzy Osbourne and Fergie will make guest appearances on her husband's upcoming solo album. Slash himself told The Pulse of Radio that he was still working out the guest list. "I'm using different singers for each song, so we're figuring out which song goes with which person and I'm not sort of divulging the list of singers, but they're all well-known singers and...sort of, you know, like I go and play on a lot of other people's records, so I'm just making a record and gonna have people come play on this one, you know."
Slash left GUNS N' ROSES in the mid-'90s, forming SLASH'S SNAKEPIT before later assembling VELVET REVOLVER with several other ex-members of GUNS N' ROSES and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer Scott Weiland.
VELVET REVOLVER is currently searching for a replacement for Weiland, who was dismissed last April.

There will never be a GnR reunion, but this will certainly eclipse that sham of a GnR release/Axl solo disc ChiDem. Can't wait. I think VR is done though. I hear from someone who would know, that Slash isn't even on speaking terms with the others.

..they would all drop what they're doing, but that looks highly unlikely.
meanwhile the old GNR members scramble to do something relevant but a cohesive band just isn't in the cards considering their roots. you can't tour with 10 singers, so success for slash's band will be in even worse shape than his velvet revolving door of singers.
adler appears mere weeks away from total self destruction, as it becomes clear that even if he could stay clean, he wouldn't be the reunion drummer anyway.
axl has to be enjoying this circus watching them simultaneously damn him and kiss his ass.

Good for him making new music and will probably sell more then most bands here do but it wont sell millions, just like any music to today, most of it doesnt, the better you are the less you seem to sell.
but always bring up this relevant bullshit??? what is being relevant??? Slash will always be relevant because he made great music and made others start playing guitar make good music too.

...I wish the CD was instrumental only... it would be more interesting to hear what he could offer in that - then just another VR-style record.

velvet revolver was nothing more than a money grab. obviously people had high hopes for these guys and pride only disallowed them to see it for what it is, uninspired garbage.

Velvet Revolver was just good rock n'roll, maybe not the best but still better then most similar bands of the last 5-10 years, would choose them over Nickelback, Linkin Park, Foo Fighter any time

I dug VR. Still play there tunes regularly. Come On, Come In from that movie soundtrack still my favorite song of theirs.
Their stuff was really good. Nothing rose quite to anthem-status or groundbreaking-status, but lightening rarely strikes twice and they were already in groundbreaking bands. But their stuff wasn't lame like most of the crap their peers that have been in the biz as long as they put out. Fresher sounding then recent AC/DC, Metallica, Motley Crue releases (as much as I appreciate these recent effeorts).

While he once was a god of the grunge scene i.e. STP, he has obviously lost his desire to not suck. I have seen him live with velvet revolver and the dude could barely keep his eyes open, let alone sing in rythm or on key.
As far as Slash goes, he has continually through all the BS and drama in his career been able to keep his head better than ANY of his colleagues and shown a consistant simple desire to play his guitar, and make music. I am not a huge VR fan mostly because of Scott W. Slash will always be the shit.

I'm really intrested in how this will turn out.
Velvet Revolver was a good and great band, but it was not the best of the best. And I'am glad that they took out Scott, he was just someone who would get into arguements and fights when it wasn't needed.

Can't wait!! but yeah, josh, that is SO out of left field... i mean with all the drummers out there! so does that mean no sorum? i thought adler had said that matt was gonna be the drummer.. i agree that steven should have played on more, but like he said "it's a start". it's great that they'll be on a track together, it's gonna boost steven, and i'm sure the energy on the track is gonna be KILLER! first time since civil war! now that's a long time!! i hope he has an izzy featuring, after all they did write alot of shit at the beginning of vr. oh and imagine this peops: axl on the last ..... hidden track!!!

Since when was STP a grunge band???? every rock band that got on the charts in the 90's was called grunge wich is just stupid. STP is more of rock band, with influences from Zeppelin, The Doors and even GNR and Motley Crue. Nirvana was realy the only grunge band, the others were much better and very different from them. it was just a marketing trick but it worked great at the time.

Although Mike Patton turned down the singer job for VR, I wonder if he'd do a track with Slash on this. It's not a commitment situation and he guests on a lot of albums too. I'd be curious.
