SMASHING PUMPKINS Drummer Auditions To Be Held Next Week - Mar. 30, 2009
Auditions will be held Friday, April 10 in Los Angeles for drummers who are looking to play with the SMASHING PUMPKINS. All interested parties should send their background info, photos and performance web links via email only to: pumpkinsdrummer@gmail.com.

SMASHING PUMPKINS mainman Billy Corgan recently entered the studio with audio engineer Kerry Brown to lay down pre-production demos of some of his new material. "It's going well and I'm very happy and in a great mood," Billy said. "I'm not sad (about drummer Jimmy Chamberlin's recent departure), actually excited to be working on new SP!" He added that "the songs sound like spring!"

There are five demos in total that Billy is currently working on and he anticipates the official recording process to begin sometime in May.

Corgan told the Chicago Tribune last year that the PUMPKINS would not release any more standard albums following the disappointing response to the group's 2007 comeback CD, "Zeitgeist". But Corgan added that more PUMPKINS music would continue to be released in some fashion.

The singer and guitarist also revealed plans to scale down the PUMPKINS' touring plans, following several shows last fall in which Corgan and audience members were hostile to each other over the lack of well-known material in the set.

Corgan recently wrote a letter to Congress in support of the proposed merger between Ticketmaster and Live Nation, although he did not mention in his letter that Ticketmaster CEO Irving Azoff manages the PUMPKINS.

I'm not normally one to post on here and probably should keep my comments to myself but I coulda sworn that last year this POS Billy Corgan said he wasn't going to make anymore Smashing Pumpkins albums because NO ONE was interested in them..... Well no shit because even the drummer has jumped ship. I have little respect for jackasses like this douche bag that gets everone's hope up of never hearing from him again to contradicting himself and looking even more like a moron by wasting good money on another waste of air. Just my opinion.... and yes I'm entitled to it.

Albums, no. He won't be releasing Long Playing bodies of work on compact discs anymore. He will be releasing 3-4 songs at a time, at his leisure, probably in download form.

Anyways, this audition should be about as fun as an unsedated root canal.

One can only dream that no one would show up to audition for this clown.

The unfortunate reality is that people are willing to step over their own grandmother for the opportunity to play for the bald-headed bastard.

James and D'Arcy may have been disposable (they weren't), but Jimmy Chamberlin was a huge part of SP's sound. With him exiting the band, the SP name is being reduced to the very definition of 'circus'.

Gish, Siamese Dream & Mellon Collie were incredibly brilliant albums. I still can't believe this guy is making music this forgettable now...

Zeitgeist, both MACHINA's, Adore, the solo album, and Zwan...

all this stuff that doesn't add up to even the B-Sides of the Mellon Collie-era. What happened Billy?

Corgan's always been an egomaniac and control freak. Zwan didn't sell and his solo album didn't sell, so now Corgan's dragging the SP moniker through the mud in final cash grab, capitalizing on whatever SP fans that are left.

Jimmy Chamberlin is so talented that he probably cannot be replaced. Billy recognized that once ten years ago.

Good luck all you drummers out there. Big shoes to fill. Something to aspire to.

.....the SP name dragging it through the mud or mean it's a cash grab? The Pumpkins has always been Billy's baby. I don't give a shit what any of you say. He wrote all the songs. No offence, drummers, but decent drummers are a dime a dozen and can be replaced at a moment's notice without so much as one fan fucking noticing. Jimmy is a great drummer, but there are lots out there that can do the same.

And the other two didn't even play half the time on the albums. Forgettable. Except D'Arcy in that mesh shirt with nothing under it. That pic was worth the price of Adore on its own.

agree with you there but Adore is actually very good but very different, and MAchina was just ok, and Zwan too, but Zeitgeist had some very good songs and others just ok.
but its just stupid saying noone wants to hear there albums anymore, it sold over 500.000 copies in the USA alone and that pretty good far a band noone wants to hear. more sales then most of the bands here

Corgan is the Axl Rose of the Alternative scene. He'll make shit, play a few shows and call them the Smashing Pumpkins. A new drummer will fit right in with their re-worked versions of most of their songs....which, by the way in my opinion, suck. Adore had a few good songs, and I liked a few off of Machina. Zeitgeist sucked.

Ladies and gentlemen, The Roland 808 is the perfect drummer for this group at this time.

Will work for electricity and will get along with the other members.

why are people commenting here that Corgan is the Axl Rose of alternative and is using the name Smashing Pumpkins like it isnt Smashing Pumpkins???? Corgan is Smashing Pumpkins and always have, dont comment on something you dont know nothing about, i bet the people i write shit like have barely listened and given any Pumpkins album a change.
and Axl owns the GNR name so he can do whatever he wants with it, and i realy dont care if he calls it GNR or something else, the music is what matters and it was good to great. and it doesnt make Appetite or Use Your Illusions album any worse

I'd love to see some extreme death metal drummers audition, let him see how far music has moved on since his washed up shit, and then laugh at him and walk off.

He's desperate to make property taxes on his Lincoln Park condo (fancy area of Chicago). Sitting around on a couple of mill and not doing anything catches up to you after a while.

Lungbrush > Smashing Pumpkins, and Pelican atomizes Smashing Rectums.
