PHILIP ANSELMO Recovering From Surgery

DOWN/ex- PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo is currently at home in New Orleans recovering from surgery (see photo below) before DOWN resumes touring later this spring. Anselmo says, "this time it was a semi-torn ACL [anterior cruciate ligament, one of four ligaments that are critical to the stability of the knee joint] and a semi-torn meniscus [a common knee injury that can cause pain in the joint]. With plans to do some jamming during the healing process, trust me, DOWN will return." Anselmo has posted a lengthy update on the web site of his Housecore label imprint. Read it at this location. DOWN will make a number of European festival appearances this summer before embarking on one more run of shows in select U.S. markets in August/September. The group will then return to the studio from October through December to record what will eventually become the fourth DOWN album, tentatively due in early 2010. In October 2008, DOWN released a "deluxe edition" of its critically acclaimed third album, "Over the Under". The deluxe package, which was made available as a Best Buy exclusive, includes a DVD with over 30 minutes of previously unreleased live performances and behind-the-scenes footage. The album was released on Down Records in conjunction with Warner Music Group's Independent Label Group ( ILG).

Phil's voice shot? Are you kidding me? Have you listened to Down III? His voice sounds better on that than it did on Down 1&2.
Live he sometimes isn't the best vocally (like many vocalist on a rigorious tour schedule), but is still one of the best frontmen of all time. Saw him last November w/Metallica and he sounded great.

I have all the Down cds and I personally know Jimmy Bower. The rest of the guys, minus Rex, are fellow New Orleanians, and I still say he sounds like shit now. I also saw Down open for Metallica, and he still sucked and talked too much.

Arson Anthem is good, but I can only listen to Mike Williams vocals for so long. SJR on the other hand kicked ass. Plus none of those trendy fakes just wanting to see Phil from PanterA hit up those shows like they do Down.

I can't wait to see down on the road. I missed the Indy show last year and I was really disappointed. Phil is one of the greatest vocalist of all time, his vocals on Down 3 are amazing. Sounds like a mix of Lemmy and B.B. King.

Pantera is my favorite band ever, and I don't fit into one category of those...well, I do tend to say fuck a lot.
I hope Phil can stay away from the narcs; when he's clean he's the best frontman there is today, period. I saw Down a year and a half ago, and the guy just oozes charisma and power, and deserves every ounce of recognition and respect he gets. Meanwhile, the Underground Elitist Corp is going to hate him every day for it. It's a damn shame he couldn't have gotten clean before Dime got murdered, but it is what it is.

Saw Down 2 times on the last tour and the guy just sang better than ever. He´s voice is more raspier than in the early days but i prefer that. In the early Pantera days he pulled out those Halford screams,But how original was that anyway 1990? Phil Rules,so S.T.F.U!!

Get well soon Phil! My thoughts and prayers are wtih you. I might be facing my fifth hip surgery at age 32 so I know what you're going through. I'm also in recovery for opiate addiction/alcoholism as well so take it easy on the painkillers bro! You'll get through this and come back stronger than ever! My prayers are with ya bro!
