MEGADETH Mainman Says Upcoming Tour Will Squash 'Potential Feud'
- Apr. 9, 2009
|
|
|
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has issued the following update:
"Today is the 9th of April and I have agreed to doing something last night that I am sure a lot of people are going to be very excited about, and something that I had hoped would one day lead to another one of the potential feuds going away for good, if not for a long while.
"I can't confirm the band or the dates yet, and I have to go get my youngster up for school. Rest assured, as soon as we are ready to announce it, you will be one of the first to know.
"I worked on my [upcoming autobiography] yesterday for an hour at least, and talked with the people from Dean [Guitars] for a spell, then worked on lyrics and finally checked my eyelids for holes.
"I have to get up my kids for school now, so I will check back soon."
In an interview conducted by Daniel Josefsson of Sweden's Close-Up magazine on February 28, 2009 at the Stockholm stop on MEGADETH's "Priest Feast" tour (with JUDAS PRIEST and TESTAMENT), Dave Mustaine revealed some of the details of his upcoming autobiography, which is tentatively scheduled for release in late 2010. The book is being co-written by New York Times journalist Joe Layden who also wrote "The Last Great Fight", which takes readers behind the scenes ofwhat is considered by many to be the biggest upset in the history of boxing: James "Buster" Douglas' tenth-round knockout win over Mike Tyson in 1990.
When asked about the difficulty of writing a 100% honest autobiography, Mustaine replied, "If you're going to write an autobiography, everything has to be included — the good and happy moments, as well as the hard times. You can't leave anything out. As of right now, we have covered everything up until halfway through the METALLICA years, so I guess now is when the more delicate stuff will come. On the other hand, if a musician writes an autobiography and it doesn't include any sexual perversion or debauchery, then it's not an honest story. I think a lot of people are going to by shocked by some of the chapters. But I have no choice — either I write about everything, or nothing at all. This is basically a story of human interest, it's much more than just 'Dave from MEGADETH.' There has been a lot of people that have tried to stop me, but they can't. Over the years, I have learned to cherish both my friends and my enemies. So it's a story about a guy that has been lifted up and then kicked down again, and I think it will show very clearly that I never give up."
Tentatively due on September 1 via Roadrunner Records, MEGADETH's forthcoming LP will be the group's first with guitarist Chris Broderick, who replaced Glen Drover at the end of 2007.
The recording process for MEGADETH's twelfth studio album began on January 7 at the band's own Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, California.
The CD is once again being helmed by British producer Andy "Undie" Sneap (ARCH ENEMY, NEVERMORE, EXODUS, MACHINE HEAD), who worked with MEGADETH on the band's last album, "United Abominations", which came out in May 2007 via Roadrunner.

Still do not have any opening acts announced. And both Metallica and Mustaine are kinda on better terms with Metallica inviting him to accept the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame thing with them.
Whatever the outcome of this. I'll be going to see Metallica in October and Megadeth whenever they come to Minnesota...both bands cannot be missed.

I'd even pay to see Megadeth & The Eagles....or what's left of the Bee Gee's to see Megadeth. But you dreamers need to get your heads out of your asses, because I think Dave knows that true fans that realize metallica have fuck all to do with the current music scene don't want to see him sell out like metallica did 19yrs ago!! metallica/Megadeth is not gonna happen, unless dave is willing to lose half his fans!

I attended the metal gods awards in LA on Tuesday. Megadeth and Slayer were present. Everybody was hanging out and having a great time. Vinnie Paul and Kerry King were both watching Megadeth perform, along with Alice in Chains and Scott Ian My bet is it's Megadeth, Slayer, Hell Ya and possibly Alice In Chains or Hatebreed. Jammy Jasta, Vinnie Paul, Unearth, Killswitch Engage were all hanging with each other. Dave was seen talking with Kerry King and Tom Araya, Jerry Cantrell. When Metallica won for best metal album the fans all chanted Megadeth. When Suicide Silence, All That Remains performed people were chanting megadeth. It was a great time, everybody got to meet their favorite metal heroes. Ozzy was there too, a great time. I bet they Dave squashed his feud that night.

I doubt it's Metallica but IF it was, only reason I can think of is because the 2nd US lag is gradually selling out dates. In the less than one week over a handful of shows are completely sold out.
All the New York shows will be sold out in the next few weeks. As far Megadeth "losing half their fanbase" if they toured with Metallica, let me refresh your memories..
Metallica had a CHART topping album, a VERY successful 1st lag of the US tour to follow it in 2008- Beginning of 2009 and are now in the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame.
If anything, Metallica would save Megadeth, namely Dave Mustaine as far as the fanbase in North America where they haven't been nearly as successful as they once were. Say what you want about sales don't matter but at the end of the day...
Metallica could still fill a football field if they decided to go on a satadium tour in North America, Megadeth is lucky to fill a club.
Either way, if true. Considering all the crap Mustaine has said through the years, They should consider themselves lucky as a band that Metallica would toss them such a kind gesture.

Cause they are both at the level where they could co-headline. I love Megadeth, but seriously, there's NO way that then can in any way claim that they have a right to co-headline with Metallica. Nothing to do with the music, just the numbers, Metallica is one of the biggest bands in the world, and Megadeth is a big metal band, but a non-entity in the mainstream world. And I don't think Dave would open for Metallica (not that i'd blame him!). So it makes sense that it would be Slayer...

This upcoming event has NOTHING to do with Metallinot, Megadeth and Metallica will never headline together. I imagine an old school tour similar to the Clash Of The Titans in 1990-91. Slayer for sure, maybe Anthrax, Testament and others. I do imagine though the new Alice in Chains will not be invited back.

While a tour with Anthrax would be fucking cool (Worship Music is supposed to be out sometime this year right?) It doesn't seem probable, as I don't think the two bands have feuded and Anthrax did do Gigantour a couple years back anyway.
The first sentence seems kind of cryptic and strangely worded though, and I'm not entirely sure of exactly what it means--"...something that I had hoped would one day lead to another one of the potential feuds going away for good, if not for a long while"--though I get the gist is that Deth will be touring alongsidea band with whom they've previously fueded.
Probably not Metallica. I just don't feel it. Also Dave says "ANOTHER potential feud", as if "a fued other than the one with Metallica". ST's out too, I guess his shit with Cyco Miko's been resolved.
I'm betting on Slayer. As it's been said a million times here already, both most likely have new albums coming out this year. Slayer's already booked thru the end of Summer though. What about GNR? Wasn't there some rumor about a Chinese Democracy tour? Have Dave and Axl ever talked shit?

What if it's not a question of what band Megadeth will be sharing the stage with, but what former members of Megadeth might be coming back into the fold? Dave talks about quashing "potential feuds", and when he says "I can't confirm the band" he might be talking about the lineup. The return of Ellefson's all they need to gain back what credibility "The Dave Mustaine Band" has lost, and he talks about something that "a lot of people are going to be very excited about". Just a thought.

someone earlier said megadeth were lucky for metallica to throw them such a nice gesture or something. Like megadeth need the help or something. What a crock of crap. Sure, they may not have as many sales or fans, but lucky to sell a club? Dude, where the hell do you get that bollocks from? You must know that's not true, why the hell you're on here spouting such utter shit is beyond me. Megadeth's sales in their time aren't exactly laughable y'know. They have enough fans to get them by just fine, and just because they aren't as big as Metallica shouldn't take anything away from Megadeth because hardly any bands are as big as 'tallica. In Metal as a whole, Megadeth are a pretty successful band. Lucky to sell a club? You offend me. Megadeth are awesome.

Metallica. Megadeth and Metallica are my two favorite bands. Slayer would be cool too, but not as cool as Metallica for my personal tastes. I already have tickets to the Ft. Lauderdale show. This tour would be a dream come true!
Also, Dave didn't say anything about co-headlining, I dunno where you all got that from.
Also, while he did say "Potential" feud, he also said "hoped would one day squash for good if not for a long while", meaning that the feud is there already. While his sentence kind of contradicts itself, it wouldn't make sense for him to speak about a feud that doesn't already exist...

Metallica/Megadeth would be a HUGE cash grab for Dave...not to mention all the press itd get for Megadeth...but Dave's ego may be too big to accept it. Plus, Metallica simply may not want to. Metallica, whether you love em or hate em, simply dont need Megadeth or *anyone* to sell out stadiums. So James or Lars could just go, 'what, I dont wanna tour with MUSTAINE. Fuck that' and would lose a single dime.

Slayer/Megadeth I could see happening. The only one in Slayer Dave really has a 'feud' with, as far as I know, is Kerry. And despite all his media hogging (but, to be fair, Tom and Jeff really arent big on interviews i dont think. so someone has to do em), Kerry is just one piece in Slayer's pie. For all i know Slayer could have the 'vote' system when it comes to who they tour with.; And if 3 hands go up for doing Megadeth, to Kerry's 1, then that may be all that counts. Not sure what happens if its a 2-2 tie. Maybe the manager gets the tiebreaker or something. And even Kerry may not mind touring with him. Despite his criticisms of Dave he does praise his ability. So he may think, 'I may not like him, but hed bring alot to the tour'. So it may be up to Dave. Though he wouldnt make as much as he would with Metallica, this, too, would also be a huge cash grab. Alot lots of pub. And really, their feud isnt nearly as personal as the one Dave has with Metallica.
