CHICKENFOOT: Vinyl Version Of Debut Album To Include Bonus Track - Apr. 16, 2009
The self-titled debut album from CHICKENFOOT — the new rock supergroup comprised of drummer Chad Smith (RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS), bassist Michael Anthony (ex-VAN HALEN), guitarist Joe Satriani and vocalist Sammy Hagar (ex-VAN HALEN) — will include a vinyl-only bonus track entitled "Bitten By The Wolf".

The Best Buy-exclusive version of the "Chickenfoot" LP is available for pre-order at this location.

CHICKENFOOT will take the stage for a limited number of North American live shows in May, featuring music from the band's debut album, set for a June 9 release.

Playing a series of intimate venues, this initial tour is set to launch on May 14 at the El Corazon in Seattle, Washington. The shows will conclude at TLA in Philadelphia, PA on May 29, with tickets prices throughout averaging $50 per show.

The new album will be released through major retailers and digitally on June 9 and will be available for pre-sale through Best Buy beginning April 19 at www.bestbuy.com/chickenfoot. The CD will be made available by earMUSIC in Germany on Friday, June 5 and in the U.K. on Monday. June 8.

"Chickenfoot" will be packaged in heat-sensitive artwork, which means when you put your hand on the CD inlay, photos of the band members will be revealed behind the CHICKENFOOT band logo.

02. Soap on a Rope
03. Sexy Little Thing
04. Oh Yeah
05. Runnin' Out

its no bonus if you can't offer up good material on the original tracks. THe 3 song offered up is as lazy & boring as the other two. Satch, why lay back in the weeds so much, let it rip! Don't dumb up the riffs. These 3 songs are basic dumb rock. Get it in gear!

I respect that Satch isn't overplaying, shredding, but he's giving up his style completely. the riffs are run of the mill BTO riffs, for lack of a better comparison. No creativity, no pushing the envelope. Maybe he's limited by Sammy's song writing? Tough to put lipstick on a pig.

COMMENT | Fuck vinyl.

Vinyl is cool for collecting, and the large size artwork, but for actually listening to it is worthless. "Oh, but the analog sounds more warmer and lifelike!" Bullshit. Everything is recorded digitally these days, and all vinyl does is add pops and scratches and hiss. Give me a 192k mp3 and my iPod any day.

Love the guys involved, but somehow it's not extraordinary. It's just ordinary. It's not greater than the sum of it's parts. It's very pedestrian, cliched, bluesy mid-tempo rock n roll as far as I've heard. Hoping these are the worst songs, but if they are, why would they put them out?

I look forward to the tour to hear Sammy, Mike and Satch whip up some old Van Halen tunes.
