Christianity Against FULL METAL RACKET And ROTTING CHRIST - Apr. 22, 2009

Full Metal Racket festival, set to take place this Saturday (April 25) in Belfast, Northern Ireland, is under deep scrutiny from the Northern Irish religious factions. After causing uproar at concerts from AKERCOCKE and GORGOROTH, it is now time for ROTTING CHRIST to be targeted.

Full Metal Racket will go ahead without any problems and the festival promoters, in conjunction with ROTTING CHRIST, have released the following statement.

"We, as a festival run by several educated, intelligent, and reasoned people, are disappointed and frankly appalled that Christians who extol the virtues of acceptance, understanding and love for their fellow man would attempt to 'save the souls' of those who plan to attend of their own free God-given will by imposing their will upon others.

"The Greek band ROTTING CHRIST, who have been together since 1988, come from an early underground metal scene where extremity in name and image got one noticed, hence bands such as CANNIBAL CORPSE becoming well known, and even appearing in children's movies like 'Ace Ventura'.

"We absolutely refute the frankly ridiculous negative satanic connotations that unaware people attach to the band on account of their name. The band are personally agnostic in their religious outlook, and are in no way involved with any aspect of Satanism.

"Full Metal Racket organizers and staff both support the band and look forward to seeing them play live and pleasing the many fans they have both at home and abroad who have travelled to the festival."

	If they don't want to listen to it, they have a fucking choice... They speak as though what they believe were true. They speak as if Rotting Christ and bands alike were the anti-christ himself. I'm not surprised that a place like Ireland would raise publicity over such a small yet awesome thing. But then again it doesn't surprise me anymore than if it happened anywhere else.

	This reminds me a little of 1986. I was 17 years old, standing in line one night waiting to get in to see Ozzy and Metallica on the Ultimate Sin Tour for the second time in a week. Without warning, what seemed like at least a couple hundred loud, pushy, extremely obnoxious zealots confronted most of us from out of nowhere while we were standing there waiting for the doors to open so we could go in. They had arrived in buses from all over the area to protest the show and save everyone's souls that night. It was quite a sight. In front of two TV news cameras, they were shouting and pleading with everyone not to go in, they were handing bibles out, screaming out scripture, begging for our forgiveness, trying to pull us out of line and convince us that rock music was one of the devils tools and that we should repent, ask for forgiveness and then rip up our tickets and refuse to go in.....what a night it was. We were basically fucked though. We had been standing in line for several hours and couldn't just move to get away from them or we'd lose our spot in line so we had to just tolerate the harassment. There were several shoving matches and a fight or two going on, and a lot of heated words being exchanged. I remember asking two of these people to step back and get away from me and to quit grabbing my arm. One was a guy in his 40's, the other was a woman who looked to be in her 20's. After several failed attempts at politely asking them to bug off I ended up having to pull out the metal horns and put them against their faces while hissing really loudly and then I suddenly started proclaiming my allegiance to satan at the top of my lungs. The guy looked a bit stunned by my actions and I think the poor woman may have shit herself. She was as pale as a ghost and ran away crying. Although it was all improvised it worked better than I could have imagined and I knew Ronnie James Dio would have been proud. In fact, a guy behind me in line was so impressed with my use of the horns, he bought me a beer when we got inside even though I was underage. Luckily the venue opened the doors about a half hour early to let us in and avoid any further altercations. None of them were waiting to save us after the show though. I guess they figured we were lost at that point. It was all worth it though. Ozzy was pretty good that night and Metallica absolutely killed it on stage.
