MAYHEM: Swine Flu Forces Mexican Cancellations - Apr. 27, 2009
Legendary Norwegian black metallers MAYHEM have been forced to cancel their previously announced shows in Mexico (May 1-3) "due to the recent outbreak of swine flu in Mexico." The band says, "Rest assured, we are already working on finding new dates so that we can get over there and spread OUR plague!"

MAYHEM recently announced the addition of French guitarist Silmaeth (ex-VORKREIST) to the group's touring lineup. He said in a statement, "It's a great honor for me to join such a legend. My experience with MAYHEM has been extremely positive so far. Within the band, we all have a very good feeling about this new lineup, as the songs have become more solid and intense now with the addition of a second guitar."

MAYHEM's current live formation is as follows:

Attila Csihar: Vocals
Necrobutcher (a.k.a. Jørn Stubberud): Bass
Hellhammer (a.k.a. Jan Axel Blomberg): Drums
Morfeus (a.k.a. Krister Dreyer): Guitar
Silmaeth: Guitar

A TuneWidget for Blackenedfest, the upcoming North American tour feraturing MAYHEM, MARDUK, CEPHALIC CARNAGE, CATTLE DECAPITATION and WITHERED, is available below.

Guitarist Rune "Blasphemer" Eriksen played his final Norwegian concert with MAYHEM on August 6, 2008 at the Øyafestivalen in Oslo.

Mayhem and Cattle Decapitation on the same bill?

Given Mayhem's tendencies towards butchering animal heads on stage and CD's extreme vegan views, how the hell is that gonna work???

Actually, Attlia Csihar in Mayhem is a die hard vegetarian. The pigs on stage? They represent the way we look at animals in society today, that they are ok to slaughter and eat as long as we don't see it.

Some of you who chose to vote for Obama should take his view. It's nothing to be "alarmed" about. I mean, people are just dying from an outbreak. The economy is "fine" too. Let the wool be pulled over your eyes. It's the American way!

I wonder if a conciensous Black Metal Band was what Euronymous had in mind. "Yes we are evil and hate everything -- Death to everybody!!! but please stop the innocent slaughter of animals!"(Record scratch sound) WTF? So what happened to the Death crusade against Christianity and Humanity? I guess saving the animals became more important. I like Mayhem and like so many before them, I never once took they're imagery seriously. Its show business. Personally I love meat, but I respect Attlia's veganism. More food for me : ) I find it ironic and funny.

Guess the countless pig heads used as stage props have caught up to Mayhem, haha. I would like to see all the Mexican fans clear out when they launched the pig head into the audience. It would have been one hell of a PR stunt.

"Besides their stellar black metal scene, Mexico is a shit heap with bunch of corrupt motherfuckers enslaving the people."

You're pathetic. Even though freedom of speech is a reality, this kind of bigoted, ignorant comments are definitely not needed here. Save it for someone who's interested. And please don't presume to tell me (us) what Mexico is or isn't. Leave it to the Mexicans to judge and decide that.

As for the news, it's a shame these guys aren't coming, I was looking forward to their show. But I think it's pretty wise of them not to come and risk themselves into this epidemic, and moreover, risk getting it to other countries and making a pandemic out of it.
