MEGADETH And SLAYER To Co-Headline 'Canadian Carnage' Trek

SLAYER and MEGADETH — two of the bands that defined the thrash/metal genre — will perform together for the first time in more than 15 years when they co-headline four shows in Canada in late June. The tour, dubbed "Canadian Carnage", will also feature MACHINE HEAD and SUICIDE SILENCE, and will see MEGADETH and SLAYER each closing two of the four shows. Tickets will go on sale Saturday, May 2, and will be available at all Ticketmaster outlets and at Ticketmaster online. The dates are as follows: June 24 - GM Place, Vancouver, BC June 26 - Rexall, Edmonton, AB June 27 - Saddledome, Calgary, AB June 29 - MTS Centre, Winnipeg, MB On January 7, MEGADETH commenced the recording process for its twelfth studio album at the band's own Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, California. The CD is once again being helmed by acclaimed British producer Andy "Undie" Sneap, who produced MEGADETH's last album, "United Abominations" (May 2007, Roadrunner Records). Tentatively due in September via Roadrunner Records, MEGADETH's forthcoming LP will be the group's first with guitarist Chris Broderick, who replaced Glen Drover at the end of 2007. New MEGADETH songtitles include: * 1320* Bite the Hand That Feeds* El Pistolero Solitaire (working title) * How the Story Ends (working title) * Nothing Left to Lose But My Mind* The Hardest Part of Letting Go* This Day We Fight"Psychopathy Red", the first new track from SLAYER since 2006's thrashterpiece "Christ Illusion", was made available as a seven-inch vinyl disc beginning Saturday, April 18, 2009 as part of the third annual Record Store Day. Only 5,000 of these limited edition discs were manufactured worldwide, and are available exclusively at participating independent record stores. The blood-red vinyl "Psychopathy Red" seven-inch collectors item are packaged in a special Russian crime scene "evidence envelope", as the song was inspired by the heinous Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, a.k.a. the Rostov Ripper, who confessed to brutally murdering 56 children. The song was recorded by the band — guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, and drummer Dave Lombardo — in a Los Angeles recording studio last October. SLAYER will co-headline with MARILYN MANSON on the five-week Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, set to kick off July 10 in Sacramento, California.

Slayer is doing the Mayhem tour, Megadeth is recording a new album, and Machine Head will never stop touring 'The blackenging' so they will always be around! :)
Seriously though, I think this is clearly just a test run of a few shows to see if the bands can get along, and how it works. If these go well, you'll see this as a huge fall at least US/Canada tour, cause the new Slayer and Megadeth will be out by then. So i'm sure that they want to book a whole tour but knowing the history of these bands, it's probably smart to do a few shows and see if they kill each other or not. If not, something great to look forward to!!

Hopefully this`ll end up as a major world tour later in the year when both bands have their new albums out. I couldn`t much care for Machine Head ( rather they pegged another classic thrash act on the bill - Exodus, Sacred Reich or Overkill would be cool ). Never heard of Suicide Silence...I imagine the silence in this thread about them speaks volumes?

try livin in Australia then! especially Perth, Western Australia!...we get probably 5 good international bands a year. no good sized venues, and we have a population of over 2 million. bloody Anthrax played at a tiny club and i saw death angel also in a small club earlier this year!..we have a great metal scene, but hardly any international visitors!...so give me a break hey?....stay metal! \m/

Instead of bitching about the show not coming to you're town, get you're local promoters to buy the touring package!
The promoter out here (Union Events), is small time compared to someone like Donald K Donald, or Live Nation. And if they can bring a tour like this to Western Canada, why can't they do the same thing in Ontario?
Thats easy, they don't WANT TO. The audience isn't there to buy the tickets. They would lose their money. Its that simple.
Western Canadadian metal shows always sell better, faster, and are supported more than in Ontario. Look at Iron Maiden, they sold out every ticket in seconds in Western Canada! It took months to do the same in Ontario.
I think tickets don't sell there because you're all into Lady GaGa, Britney, and Madonna.
As far as I'm concerned, you get the shows you deserve.
