W.A.S.P. To Play First-Ever Audience Request Set At U.K. HARD ROCK HELL Festival - Apr. 27, 2009
The organizer of the U.K.'s Hard Rock Hell festival has revealed to Rock Radio that he has persuaded Blackie Lawless of W.A.S.P. to play the band's first-ever request-only set at this year's event, which is scheduled to take place in December at Pontins in Prestatyn, Wales.

Promoter, organizer and director John Davis said: "We asked the fans what bands they wanted and for many reasons W.A.S.P. came top of the list. So we had a chat with Blackie and he wanted to do it. We said, 'We need to make it special because Hard Rock Hell is special.' So for the first time even he's going to do 'an audience with W.A.S.P.,' where the audience pick the track listing. It's a big thing for us. Some people might think it's not a big deal — but if you know how difficult things can be, it is a big thing. The problem is, I know what number one on the list is going to be — and it's a track he doesn't like to play. It's also a track I can't mention! But I believe Blackie used to do a stint with the NEW YORK DOLLS [who are also playing this year's Hard Rock Hell] — so you never know what might happen there."

You can listen to Rock Radio DJ Tom Russell's interview with John Davis at this location.

W.A.S.P. last year completed the European and North American legs of "The Crimson Idol Tour", which kicked off on October 26, 2007 in Thessaloniki, Greece. The band performed the 1992 album in its entirety while never-before-seen video footage was being shown throughout the show. After a short break the group returned for another a 30-minute set of W.A.S.P. classics.

That they stop playing? That's usually been my request anytime I've been in a WASP audience.

"I know what number one on the list is going to be — and it's a track he doesn't like to play"

Wonder what song that is?

I'd vote to hear "B.A.D." myself. Great tune...

Can I request that you stop posting on bands that you dont give a crap on. Keep posting great things about your favorite bands which have got to be Poison, Motley Crue, and Spandau Ballet.

By the way, Blackie would kick your ass. Your mighty tough typing on a keyboard though. Your a real winner, never forget that. Ok? Also, I would like to see in a WASP audience with your Posion shirt on.

This could be interestins as they normally play the same old setlist wit only a few changing tunes.

"I know what number one on the list is going to be — and it's a track he doesn't like to play"

I think maybe it's Mean Man, one of the best W.A.S.P. songs.

Spandau Ballet rule! And they would kick your ass in a slap fight!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!

Blackie would only kick my ass if I hid the tapes he lip-synchs over (yes, those vocals are very much pre-recorded, ask around).

This sounds very very cool, wish I could be there!

I hope Blackie lets this happen!

Amen to the person who asks shattered73
to stop posting to bands you don't like! It is boring

COMMENT | WASP's 1st LP is a classic

2nd LP is decent, after that I lost interest. I can say the same for Motley Crue and Ratt. Maybe it's an LA metal thing? It must be because Guns & Roses did the same as well. Possible scenario: Hungry band writes killer first record, tours, put's out another good, or decent, follow up, more touring, they taste the fame, money, etc etc. and lose all integrity and start making crap records.

They did this in Melbourne, Australia in April of 2008.

The first night which was the 15th the played all of The Crimson Idol and a few classics then the the second night you could vote to hear The Crimson Idol again or vote for a new set list chosen by the fans. It was the fans choice the second night, I still have the slip that you had to fill in the 15 songs.

.. he definitely was singing his a$$ off.. but whether or not that was all that was coming out the speakers... A friend of mine was at the back- he said the vocals were flawless .. so.. he had a lil bit of "help"..

Oh. the promoter was a huge fan of the band who spent way too much- he lost "6 figures" for the whole Aust tour...
