This Guy's In Love With You (B-side on "I Started A Joke" single 1998) FAITH NO MORE rehearsed on March 4, 2009 for the first time in over 10 years, according to a Twitter update by the group's bassist, Billy Gould. So far, no North American appearances are on the radar, but according to Gould, "U.S. shows are not out of the question." As speculated, original guitarist Jim Martin will not be part of the reunion. Performing in his place will be Jon Hudson, who played with FAITH NO MORE during the latter stages of its initial run after Martin departed. The rest of the band's best-known lineup — singer Mike Patton, Gould, drummer Mike "Puffy" Bordin and keyboardist Roddy Bottum — will be intact.

1. they released KILLER stuff after 1990. King For A Day is a killer, killer album with lots of heavy moments. if you can only listen to 100% heavy metal or nothing, i feel sorry for you as you're missing out on thousands of albums and songs that are worthwhile.
2. usually Best-Of's are bullshit but in this case the rare stuff does make it worthwhile.
i have a feeling the haters here have only heard "Epic" and never had the chance to spin the whole albums of Angel Dust or King For A Day. if that's the case, you're really missing out on some very intersting, at at times heavy, stuff.
they're not two-hit wonders. if you know all their stuff and believe that, you've got the musical IQ of a fucking gnat.
cheers.

Just go the frak away, what's the point in wasting your energy so much on a band that you don't like that last recorded anything 10 years ago????
Sadly, I must state a mior hate myself though - This is not "the very best" by any stretch of the imagination.
The closest have been "Who Cares a Lot?" & "This is IT"

This band had one hit. That's it. Yes, other singles were released and yes there are other songs that fans especially like. But go up to any non-Faith No More fan - I don't even mean your Grandma or someone who's too young to remember, go up to someone who was buying records back in 1990 onward that was not a FNM fan and play them ANY of those songs besides 'Epic' and they won't recognize it. Exept maybe 'Easy,' but that's only because they'll think it's the original.
'Greatest Hits' needs to stop being thrown aroudn so much. Lots of bands don't have more than one or two hits - record labels just like to make it seem that way for re-release purposes.
You may not have liked the New Kids on the Block, but you would remember their hits if you heard them (even if you weren't sure who the artist was) because they had hits. Hit songs get a ton of airplay and are usually inescapable. "Epic" was such a song. Nothing else here was.

None of my friends who were buying rock/indie albums in the 1990s didn't like FNM. I always thought they had a universal appeal because of this. there is a bit of a lack of knowledge from the post millenium rock fans but that's because Epic was the only single PLAYED on rock radio/rock clubs but I'm pretty sure most '90s rockers will know Midlife Crisis, Falling to Pieces, Be Aggressive, We Care a Lot, A Small Victory from the first 3 albums.
I can only presume they were much bigger in the UK than in the US (which wouldn't surprise me)

...vh1/mtv countdowns do not count as definitive lists...
what irks me is that this is something like the 3rd or 4th FNM greatest hits package already... i'm almost willing to bet that the name of this one is so tongue-in-cheek because they realize that the core fans already bought one or two of the previous incarnations that were then deemed "definitive" collections... just wish that disc 2 would become available on its own, but it probably won't happen, so hopefully it will be priced just right (at least in the first week it's available)...

to the clown above who said this isn't for metal fans, go find your Metallica 'Garage Days Re-Revisited' album and look at the band T-shirt that Hetfield is wearing. Guess what? It's Faith No More! Idiot! These guys ruled, they were one of the most unique rock bands of the late 80s/mid 90s, bummer that people think only of 'Epic' (which is a great song!) when they think of them. Hopefully the Euro shows will go well, they'll all get along and bring the reunion to the US!

FNM opened on one of the biggest Metallica tours of all time. So to say they aren't for metal fans is just small minded. Then again I'm gonna guess most of haters are like 12 though after looking at the formation of their sentences/comments. "Shattered73", if you adhere to basic "sheeperee" and just follow the crowd, then yeah you're right. But if you had an open mind capable of grasping deeper ideas and more artistic music, then you're wrong. All their songs were hits IMO.

I am a metalhead and I loved FNM.
I also find it weird that Last Cup of Sorrow is not on here.
I don't see why this is coming out though. They will now have averaged approximately 1 greatest hits album for every 2 years since they have broken up. (even the shittiest one has Last Cup of Sorrow on it).
I find metalheads perplexing. If you don't like this band, that's fine, it's your loss I suppose. I consider myself a huge metalhead and proud of it. I like meeting other people who love music and have an opinion. I just like it when they haven't had their mind and therefore their musical openmindedness shrunk down to the size of a pea. I get the impression that a lot of the people who trash on a band like this do it purely out of ignorance. Like it's not straight metal so you're not allowed to listen to it even if you accidentally found yourself liking it. That's just sad. If you don't like this tell me it's because you gave it a chance and just didn't like it and not because it wasn't metal enough.

I wasn't attacking the band as much as I was attacking the loosey-goosey way record companies (and other people) throw around the word 'hit'.
>>if you had an open mind capable of grasping deeper ideas and more artistic music, then you're wrong. All their songs were hits IMO.
Do you even know what a hit is? It's a successful song that has garmered a lot of airplay and sold a huge amount of units. It's not speaking to the quality of the song. A song being a hit or not is a FACT, not an opinion.
Many hit songs suck, as far as I'm concerned, burt they're still hits. You may enjoy the demo that your brother's bar band recirded. But does that make the songs on it hits?
I don't know you what you can't seem to grasp about the concept of a hit. Look it up in the dictionary if you need to and then when you're done you'll realize that 'Epic' was a hit - the rest of these songs were not. In ANYONE'S opinion.

I was gonna comment on your one hit wonder comment too but I read into it and realized you were attacking hits more than FNM specifically. You are correct with all your points.
Although they weren't hits, I do remember Ashes to Ashes and Last Cup of Sorrow getting a lot of radio play where I lived. I probably wouldn't have known FNM was still around in '98 had I not heard those songs on the radio. Album of the year was a good album. Plus whenever they announced the new FNM album on the radio it sounded like the radio station had awarded it album of the year. lol.

Seeing that I already own all the songs on the 1st disc, and have downloaded half of the 2nd disc......just the record label cashing in on their reunion.
As for the FNM debate....to each his own. The funny thing is their only "hit" is probably one of the worst songs they ever did. Anything off 'Angel Dust' or 'King For A Day.......' smokes that song.

if you want to say they were "one hit wonders" than, literally, you may be right. they just had one big "hit" -- meaning one really commercially successful song.
and, if you want to be very literal, the record company is wrong for calling the cd greatest hits. they should have just called it the Best Of or Greatest.
semantics. not the reason why i, or most people, come here.
but if you want to deny that FNM was a very talented and much-loved band, you're fucking crazy.
they're not strictly metal, but they can be heavy as hell and are almost always interesting in the best way.
i like Bolt Thrower but i can also appreciate FNM. am i not a "real metal fan" then?
ridiculous.
and some people wonder why there's a "misconception" that many metal fans are small-minded and ignorant.

I agree with the above posters that FNM is definitely a unique band in that they can be schizophrenic at times. How many bands do really (wonderfully) ugly songs like Jizz Lobber AND cover a ballad like "Easy"? Not many.
FNM, for better or worse, opened the door for nu metal bands and that's what they are mostly remembered because of "Epic" but there was a lot more to this band.
Maybe I just have a soft spot for giant pumpkin growers. :)
Nobody else mentioned that yet.

As much as I like Faith No More, I'll pass on this.
I see no need for yet another "Greatest Hits" collection, especially one with a questionable tracklist that is far from definitive (and the songs here weren't all hits anyway). There are only three songs on the second CD that I don't have, so that doesn't really provide any incentive for me to pick this up, and there are many better choices than these to choose from.
Oh well, they can't all be good.

I´m a metalhead and I consider FNM as a cult band. They are great with a wide range of styles, but mainly metal. And for those teenaggers who write shit here I recomend you listen to Patton´s project bands as Fantomas (with D. Lombardo -Slayer- or Terry Bozo) real fuck up music. Also listen to Mr. Bungle and Tomahack.
They are metal, Billy Gould was a member of BRUJERIA, a band that would make you shit in your pants. Mike Bordin plays with Ozzy (since ozzy was´nt a joke) and Black Sabbath, Jim Martin played in a Metallica album so fucking puberts go fuck yourselfs listening Korn

I stopped buying anything after King, cause I didnt find anything on it that grabbed me. Since its been a long time, I will give it another listen though.
I saw these guys when they toured for TRT and they ruled. They closed out the show with 'Easy', that stunned the crowd with a WTF?, but they still loved it.

This is what, the third or fourth 'Greatest Hits' albums from FNM. During which time they have released no new original music. What a crock of shit, although you can sense the band is probably just taking the piss here... look at that title again.
Give us a new album, fuckers. That is what we want. We already own all these songs. Most of the b-sides are not worth owning anyway, hence why they are b-sides. And anyway, any album that does not contain The Gentle Art Of Making Enemies or Surprise! You're Dead! can hardly stake a claim to being the 'best' of FNM

The reality of the matter is that any self-respecting metalhead who caught you talking shit like that would most likely unscrew your head from your shoulders for speaking such blasphemy. FNM rocked then, and they still rock now. Jim Martin, Mike Bordin, Bill Gould (played in Brujeria, as someone above has already mentioned). It don't get much more metal than those dudes.
Now fuck off back to emoville.
