SLASH Approached For 'Rock Week' On 'American Idol' - Apr. 28, 2009
According to The Pulse of Radio, Slash revealed on his Twitter account that he has been approached to mentor contestants during an upcoming "Rock Week" on "American Idol". The VELVET REVOLVER guitarist simply wrote, "'American Idol' has asked me to do the mentor bit for 'Rock Week'," with no mention of whether he would actually agree to do it or when it would air. Previous stars who have mentored hopefuls on the show include Mariah Carey and Neil Diamond, while Jon Bon Jovi has mentored Rock Week.

Just don't expect Slash to look for the new VELVET REVOLVER singer during his stint. The guitarist has told The Pulse of Radio before that finding a new vocalist through an "Idol"-type tryout or a reality series is out of the question. "If we wanted to make a quick buck, that would be the way to go," he said. "There's such a huge lack of integrity in that process, be it putting a band together or finding a relationship or finding a new best friend, whatever the premise is. It's just a cheap way of doing things and I don't think that you can actually find the individual or the character or the quality or whatever it is that's important."

VELVET REVOLVER has yet to hire a replacement for singer Scott Weiland, who was dismissed in April 2008.

In other news, Slash has posted a new update on his solo album, which he is in the process of recording with various guest vocalists appearing on different tracks. He wrote, "We are six tracks into it and it sounds really great — great playing and super killer tones, not to mention stellar vocals so far. I'm still not at liberty to publicly divulge any singers' names, but trust me, they're amazing. I know a lot of you out there know who at least some of them are."

Ozzy Osbourne and AVENGED SEVENFOLD frontman M. Shadows are two of the vocalists confirmed to appear on Slash's record.

The guitarist said there are eight songs still to record, and also posted some working song titles, including "We're All Gonna Die", "These Last Words", "Crucify The Dead" and "Beautiful, Dangerous".

Slash has recruited ex-NINE INCH NAILS drummer Josh Freese and former JANE'S ADDICTION bassist Chris Chaney to play on the record.

don't do it! don't go the Aerosmith route, completely selling out. I will agree with one Axl comment, Slash is starting to lend himself to some questionable endeavors lately...just being associated with that show and Bon Jovi is the kiss of death for a real rocker. I was sickened when I heard Joe Perry did it. I figured it was Tyler that was pushing Asmith in the pop direction...or go on drunk for old time sake & swear up a storm, grab Paula's A$$, & flick cigarette ashes on Simon's head...now that's a thought.

Of course Slash will do it.

I'd rather see Axl do it though. He'd either never show up, or would just tell them they sucked as he sat there eating his roast duck.

Thats freaking funny... Axl sitting eating roast duck... that cracked me up. I think there is no way in hell Axl would show his face on there. Now Slash is kinda whoring himself out these days.

Playing with Michael Jackson is one thing - this is another. I will never take you seriously again if you do it.

...on one hand, I hope he tells AI to F-off!
But on the other, if he went... he might actually bring some respectibility to those show?

... then again, nothing can help AI!

its a total pop show. Joe Perry didn't bring it respectibility. It made him look desperate to relevant. Playing the SuperBowl with Britney is not being relevant, its a complete sellout of your rock soul. Slash on AI, not good.

Early gnr/Slash was so anti anything like that. there's other ways to promote. It reaches tons of people, but the wrong ones....it can only tarnish your legacy. Aerosmith may sell more albums in the short run by selling out, but their legacy as riff & rollers is gone. Kids now know them as the band that brought them "Jaded". Their long term catelogue sales will be hurt by Tylers lust for the spot light. Slash can only come out looking like a douche. Playing with Michael J is not a big deal, he played a song or 2, rockers, & took off. AI is rubbish.

...he's kept himself "relevant" for years now... he's as much of an in-demand personality as axl would be... pardon what is now a pun, but he definitely qualifies as a modern day "guitar hero" as much as page or perry or any of those guys were in their heyday... THAT's what has AI interested in him, the selling point of that... that's also the same sort of thing that drives the "all star jam" at the end of every RnR HOF ceremony...

there's not too many guitar players that have come around over the last 15-20 years that have that kind of name recognition with the general public... slash may not be the most technically gifted player, but he has that intangible thing that's given him a reputation... you ask the general public if they know who Slash is, chances are, no matter what you think of him, the answer will be yes, and AI is targeting those people, not the fine upstanding core metalheads on here...

and since when has it been a crime to make money? would you pass on such an appearance? i don't know what AI would be paying him, but i'm sure it would be substantial...

not a crime to make $$, but sometimes you have to watch out for your reputation or image. Over exposure can hurt, doing the Hannah Montana show isn't a good career move for a hard rocker, and so on. then there's Axl who is curled up in a ball in his closet with tissue boxes for slippers, long fingernails, no eye brows, completely bald.

...it didn't make what's left of Queen any worse for wear... i would worry if he showed up on Dancing With The Stars... to MIME to a track...

if anything, it's too bad he wouldn't be able to tie the appearance to promoting his solo cd...

he's been playing on people's records for years now, across many different types of music... i just don't see this as any different... if anything, it puts the spotlight on him as a legitimate rock guy who can lend some legitimacy to a rock-themed week... haven't watched AI in several seasons, but his appearance may make tune in, maybe...

i don't remember joe perry's involvement, but i thought it was just a performance? didn't watch it, so i couldn't tell you for sure...

totally right. Playing on other's albums doesn't compare to playing, or Mentoring on AI. As mentioned, what is he going to teach pop singers? Pass out TopHats? Next he'll be on the Ellen Show...oh, he did that already....

Doros, Peter Frampton did that "Sgt Peppers" movie in the 70's for fun. Ruined his career, nearly did in Aerosmith...ask your self "would Lemmy do it?". NO. Where is the integrity with any rocker anymore. Ozzy's doing sitcoms(bad ones), Aerosmith is playing with Britney.
