DANZIG Hard At Work On New Album; Lyric Book To Finally See Light Of Day - May 1, 2009
Glenn Danzig is currently in the studio working on the new DANZIG album, tentatively due before the end of the year. Drummer Johnny Kelly (TYPE O NEGATIVE, SEVENTH VOID) and Tommy Victor (PRONG, MINISTRY) will appear on most of the tracks, according to a posting on DANZIG's official web site.

Although Johnny Kelly has been performing live with DANZIG off and on since 2002, this will mark the first time he has recorded with the band. Tommy Victor, of course, played guitar on 2004's "Circle Of Snakes" album.

The CD will feature a song called "Long Dark Road", which is decribed by Glenn as "very creepy and echo-y. It's like an old kind of '50s-ish kind of song. I've been having in my head probably for about six, seven, eight years. I haven't gotten around to recording it, and I recorded it, so it's pretty cool."

For every Danzig fan who was dying to know the lyrics to all the DANZIG, MISFITS and SAMHAIN songs — tracks that never had their "dark verses" printed — well, wait no more. Glenn Danzig's song lyrics, illustrated by longtime Danzig collaborator and friend Simon Bisley, will see the light of day later in the year. Each song gets its own illustration by Bisley, who has painted many album covers for Danzig, including the latest CD, "The Lost Tracks of Danzig", and ex-MISFITS member Doyle Von Frankenstein's solo project GORGEOUS FRANKENSTEIN (which Glenn produced).

Bisley's final illustration for the book — for the DANZIG song "When Death Had No Name" — can be viewed below.

DANZIG last year toured as part of 2008's "Blackest of the Black" trek which also included DIMMU BORGIR, MOONSPELL, WINDS OF PLAGUE and SKELETONWITCH

DANZIG's lineup for the trek was as follows:

Glenn Danzig - Vocals
Tommy Victor (PRONG) - Guitar
Steve Zing - Bass
Johnny Kelly (TYPE O NEGATIVE) – Drums

Eric Blair of "The Blairing Out With Eric Blair Show" conducted an interview with Glenn Danzig at the Musink Tattoo Convention & Music Festival on February 22, 2009 at the Orange County Fair & Expo Center in Costa Mesa, California. Watch the eight-minute chat below.

He still remembers not getting paid at CBGB's. Traumatizing for young/hungry bands

Never liked corporate rock, including the Who, which is interesting since other punk bands have mentioned how they love the Who.

The voice is deep as shit. I don't think he smokes/drinks. How did that happen? Breathing really deep there.

MC jacket. Looking like a member of a certain band..... MISFITS??

Marriage? "I'm not an idiot."

Glenn must have appreciated being interviewed by a guy who is his height.

overdriven solidstate amp gain, which is what tommy uses. that gain is just to numetal for me i like the bite and roundness of tube amps like the tones christ (vht) or youth (marshall) used. even 666 has better tone. i think victor does amazing things with prong, cause thats his sound, thats where his tone belongs. but really have you seen him butcher the leads in the old danzig songs live? ouch youtube tells no lies. the facts are there sorry. the only solidstate tone i can stand would be dimebag or the guys from eyehategod, which is just raw and nasty. and just to clear things up im a 25 year old guitarist who is endorsed by mesa boogie and esp. so i may know something about this kinda thing, or not who knows ( prolly the later). im glad somebody like his tone, its just not my cup o tea.

T. VICTOR handles the job, so it should be OK, but TODD YOUTH would probably be better at this point.

I am in complete agreeance...Tommy Victor not only has an awful tone, he is a fairly awful player as well...especially compared to some of the other people that have held the Danzig guitarist spot. I haven't seen Danzig with Tommy, but I just can't imagine him playing some of John Christs leads. Without a doubt, the worst part of Circle of Snakes. Psyched about Zing and Kelley being involved though.

Ever the humble man..

1. Journey, The Who, Foreigner.. corporate crap.

2. Everybody was reading "dorky stuff", I was reading Poe.. and watching Elvis.. LOL

3.American Comics are so "retarded" and full of "guys in spandex"

4. A Danzig show is what a heavy music concert should be!

The only thing good out of this is that he does not see himself having offsprings. Lucky for mankind, the douchery stops there.

There hasn't been a good Danzig album since 4p so I'm not holding my breath for this to be any good either. I do agree though Todd Youth should have been the guitarist his style is more bluesy and fits Danzig over Tommy's industrial type rffing and tones.

Tommy may butcher the songs live but not like Glenn does. Glenn never sings into the microphone and sounds like he is out breath when he does. It sounds like ass when the singer only sings bit & pieces of the lyrics . Jerry Only is not the greatest singer by all means but at least he knows when to sing in the the microphone

777 was terrible... poor production... terrible nu-metal guitar tone and riffs... Danzig's voice sounds super blown out and the songs are bland and boring. Compared to any of their classic material it is pathetic.

...Doyle to play on his next release. I'm actually listening to Kryst the Conqueror for the first time right now, and I have to say, his playing ain't too bad. I think Doyle might have more chops then he lets on in the Misfits...plus, what a great line up that would be...
Glenn
Zing
Doyle
Kelley
Then, all he would need to get the best 5th member he ever had in the band...Rick Rubin!

while doyle has some sweet riffage on kryst, the leads are done by snake sabo of skid row as he sat in on the sessions. still would like to see doyle rather than victor, 666 didnt have any real leads and i still perfer it to c.o.s.

huh...ok...now that I think of if I think I may have heard that at one point. I actually didn't think 666 was too bad. Satans Child, Five Finger Crawl, Thirteen, all good stuff. Hell, after 15 years I've even grown warmer to the one album I thought I could never like in a million years...Blackacidevil. I heard it once when it first came out, and never listened to it again until a couple years ago and I was suprised that I didn't hate it as much. I suppose that it took a while to get over the initial reaction to the drastic change from 4 to 5. 777 is total crap. A hand full of almost good songs, but mostly shit.

the lineups for 666 and 777 are the best since the original. true they both have their weak moments on these albums but circle of snakes bows down to both of those albums. you have to remember most of these song ideas come from glenn he is the band so what he says goes. but these ideas seem to come to better light with the right players. kudos to having johnny kelly on the new one and i hope steve zing makes his first appearance on this as well.
