Bahraini Metal Guitarist Arrested For Wearing 'God's Busy' Shirt

Alistair Baptista of Gulf Daily News reports that police arrested the guitarist of Bahrain-based extreme metal band THE MUSHROOM MASSACRE ( MySpace page) at a rock concert in Bahrain Thursday (April 30), bringing it to an abrupt halt and angering scores of fans. Organizers halted the "Rage to the Extreme" show (see poster below) at the Palace hotel, Adliya, immediately after the arrest. Sources said the Sri Lankan was apparently arrested because he was wearing a T-shirt bearing a caricature of a "devilish" figure and the slogan "God's Busy...Can I Help You?" (See image below.) They said the guitarist was taken to a police station where he had his shirt and body piercings photographed. "Someone just came on stage and said the show was over, after that there were two breaks for prayer," said concert-goer Yasir Shehzad. "Everyone's angry, but we don't know what to do. Someone, we don't know who he was, got on stage and told people to wear their T-shirts inside out." He said the organizers should have warned people against inappropriate clothing. "I blame them because the sound was terrible and they should have told children that they couldn't wear certain kinds of clothing." Dubai-based Bahraini Ali Ahmed, who had travelled home especially for the event, was shocked and embarrassed. "I don't know why they stopped it. "There was no problem. Children were just relaxing and there were bands from the UAE and Saudi on the list to play. yes this sucks. Wouldve felt bad to the concert goers. But wearing a regular metal band tshirt wouldnt have hurt.

It seems like the authorities in these overly-religious places look for any excuse to interfere with metal (and freedom in general). Wearing a "regular metal band tshirt" would have been just as bad... hence why everyone was told to turn their shirts inside out. Plus, that "God's busy" shirt is very very tame... most metal shirts are worse than that in one way or another.
People need to stop being so ass-backwards and leave people alone.

I want to turn it on them so bad !! they have bin bringin the lamest excuses to shut us down over here !! almost every fukin year !! we never had a decent concert.. the retarded cops here call us satanists.. cz well obviously we stuck to being underground .. but i say fuk that this time ..my friend Alistair is a Reporter and we decided to give them these pigs a lil exposure along with bringing us out of the hole!!

Israel has the best metal scene in the Middle East, just listen to Salem, Betzefer, Orphaned Land, Edgend, The Fading, Whorecore(for those who like brutal grind hh) etc. here theres no restriction due to religion we are a completely free country and can do whatever the fuck we want here. I'm an American-born citizen and I have to say the metal scene in Israel is better than over there, we have international bands coming all the time, I already bought tickets for Nevermore and Dream Theater in a month

In Pakistan, the first metal concert I ever went too, there were dozens of guys in Slayer tshirts, Iron Maiden tshirts et al. We've never had this problem of getting in trouble with the authorities.
And Lebanon has this fucking awesome band "Oath To Vanquish" \m/ although I hear lebanese black metal band 'Ayat' is band. is it true?
@Drop A Tuning I really don't think there's any room for 'anti-muslim' bands. Sensible and educated people play metal around the middle east and south asia

Somebody I know bought that exact same shirt when we were in the States two years ago. I advised not to wear it at certain points in case we encountered some evangelists, but I never knew it could have invoked THIS.

Really? Israel has no problems with metal? Is that why the entire band of Melechesh was forced to move to the Netherlands because of problems with the religious authorities? I'm pretty sure there is a 2nd band that was forced to relocate because their lives were threatened but I can't think of who right now. I have no problem with Israel but like I said above, overly-religious countries need to lighten the fuck up and let people live their lives.

I have heard about this band all the way here in Sweden, i heard that they're live performances are pretty brutal! its a Fucking shame that this had to happen. There is no point in talking about religion. Its about the fucking extremists! fucking shallow , narrow minded people, not only in the middle east! there is all sorts of crap like this going on even in western countries! so fuck all you posers who think you are some sort of intellectual. If you are a metal head then you know that this shit is wrong and that its not only about a fucking t-shirt. THESE MOTHERFUCKERS ARE SCARED OF US! just like a kid is scared of the boogie man!

MAn Ansgar!!! dude you just made my day by bringing out that main point behind all this bullshit about a dam tshirt ! The reason they took me in and took pics of me was because i looked like a gud example of a satan worshiper with my piercings and my colored hair .. which added to the excuse for shutin the concert down !

they are fukin scared that we might fuk their perfectly holy race over hahahah! when i was in the car with one of them ..i actually asked him if he was scared of me .. he looked around and said not so much.. and i smiled =)
and as for the band ! were guna finally record a few rough tracks and put em up regardless of the stupid recording qualities ..cz our recording engineer ( apparently the best one we found with rock music tastes) cant tell the difference between us and system of a down for somereason .. and he thinks godsmack songs are originaly Nirvana songs.. so now you know why we havent had an album out yet ...
