SLAYER Putting Finishing Touches On New Album; Late Summer Release Expected - May 8, 2009
Despite widespread rumors to the contrary, SLAYER's as-yet-untitled new album does not yet have an official release date. According to the band's publicist, the Los Angeles thrashers are in the studio putting the finishing touches on the CD recordings and are hoping to get the album out before the end of the summer. However, an exact release date will not be set until the record has been completed. "Tom's [Araya] finishing up vocals, Kerry [King] and Jeff [Hanneman] are doing final guitar overdubs, and, unless some unforeseen wrench is thrown in, all recording will be finished before the end of next week," the publicist told BLABBERMOUTH.NET.

"Psychopathy Red", the first new track from SLAYER since 2006's thrashterpiece "Christ Illusion", was made available as a seven-inch vinyl disc beginning Saturday, April 18, 2009 as part of the third annual Record Store Day. Only 5,000 of these limited edition discs were manufactured worldwide, and are available exclusively at participating independent record stores. Log on to www.recordstoreday.com for the list of participating stores.

The blood-red vinyl "Psychopathy Red" seven-inch collectors item are packaged in a special Russian crime scene "evidence envelope", as the song was inspired by the heinous Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, a.k.a. the Rostov Ripper, who confessed to brutally murdering 56 children. The song was recorded by the band in a Los Angeles recording studio last October.

SLAYER and MEGADETH — two of the bands that defined the thrash/metal genre — will perform together for the first time in more than 15 years when they co-headline four shows in Canada in late June. The tour, dubbed "Canadian Carnage", will also feature MACHINE HEAD and SUICIDE SILENCE, and will see MEGADETH and SLAYER each closing two of the four shows.

The dates are as follows:

June 24 - GM Place, Vancouver, BC
June 26 - Rexall, Edmonton, AB
June 27 - Saddledome, Calgary, AB
June 29 - MTS Centre, Winnipeg, MB

SLAYER will co-headline with MARILYN MANSON on the five-week Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, set to kick off July 10 in Sacramento, California.

Revolver TV has uploaded a short interview with Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman conducted by Full Metal Jackie at the first annual Epiphone Revolver Golden Gods Awards, which was held on April 7 at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles. Watch the one-minute chat below.

I either saw or read that the new song 'Psychopathy Red' is an indication of the rest of the CD. If that is indeed so, then all I can say is 'Holy Shit!' I also heard that they may be playing 2 new songs on Mayhem Fest this summer.

that Slayer has not been talking up the new album. Dave Mustaine has been ranting about Megadeth's new album for almost a year now. maybe slayer doesn't feel that this is their strongest album or maybe they are tired of hyping up an album before it is released. They might want the album to speak for itself. we'll see when it is comes out. i hope it is good.

Tom dose not sing on dead skin mask, just listen to it. It was a little kid and they forgot to mix it at the very end! Kerry and Jeff never played the solo on Postmortom either because their is no solo. Think about it

where the hell does the time go!
those shows are all fucking killer just like slayers career has been all these years."

yeah, add Seasons in the abyss and some of Divine intervention..then you have Slayers good parts of their careers..the rest, shit. not exactly a great career is it? not being able to release something original in what..15 years?

Slayer havent evolved or progressed, theyre still churning out average shit for years now..

Hope Hannemann writes most of the material this time.

Between him and King, Jeff was always the superior songwriter.

thats a good response..im not a hater of Slayer, far from it..ive got bored of them over the years..theres a difference..how could i be a hater when i have 7 albums of theirs? not including the live 'decade of aggression'

i must admit that Chrst illusion was BETTER..but still..the band havent evolved over the years..there hasnt been a GREAT album of theirs since Seasons..

as for saying you dont know where ive been as theyve had a successful career..on what grounds? what do you call success? as compared to a garage band, 5 million album sales worldwide would be a success..compared to the likes of Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, Guns n roses, Black sabbath etc etc, 5 million albums sold with 9 studio albums made and one live album..that is roughly half a million albums sold PER album WORLDWIDE..isnt a great deal, is it?

Slayer have been stuck in the same time warp since the 80's and will never or could never progress or change.

meh..

youve made some valid points! i'll give you that..

but musically nowadays..theyre stale.

youre also right that theyve basically cemented a right to be in the history books as one of metals hardest and true metal acts.

"Slayer have been stuck in the same time warp since the 80's and will never or could never progress or change"

normally i'd say that's a bad thing, such as ac/dc and motley crue, who are both bands i loved in the 80s and wouldn't waste my piss on now if they caught on fire.
but slayer's unchanging sound has never seemed to bother me. i love every album and still listen to all of them regularly.
everyone criticizes Metallica for losing their 80s sound and never being able to recover it, but Slayer gets shit for delivering the same goods, album after album. sort of hypocritical.

the people who criticise the likes of Metallica for changing, are the ones who dont like change or bands evolving with their sound. what i say to people is..would bands get the same criticism if they stuck to their originality and sounded the same album after album? yes. in fact, even worse. bands have to evolve and change through a period of their careers, to keep the fans interested. it also gives more variety to offer to us all, where as Slayer havent got ANY variety in their music. its been stale, boring and so fucking repetitive for many years now.

That is not strange, Slayer are different and more reserved. Btw, cannot wait for the album from the masters of thrash violence, and, as usual, I bet the album will be delayed.
