OZZY OSBOURNE Meets 9-Year-Old Guitar Prodigy On 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show'
- May 12, 2009
|
|
Nine-year-old guitar prodigy Yuto Miyazawa performed OZZY OSBOURNE's "Crazy Train" on yesterday's (Monday, May 11) episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show". Yuto was then surprised when Ozzy himself was brought out to meet the boy. Check out video footage below. Born February 21, 2000 in Tokyo, Japan, Yuto Miyazawa has been playing guitar since the ripe age of three. Although he has had a few guitar lessons, the bulk of his expertise comes from truly wanting to play… all the time. Generally, if he is not in school, he has a guitar in his hands. That love of guitar is quickly making Yuto the Internet's latest addiction, as his videos rack up views on YouTube and Vimeo, and his name is scattered across hundreds of forums and blogs. Yuto's influences are fairly apparent, as he usually seen playing his custom Randy Rhoads-style, checkered flying V guitar, which dwarfs him. Along with Ozzy Osbourne and Randy Rhoads, Yuto is influenced by Eric Clapton, KISS and METALLICA. After playing multiple variety shows in Japan, Yuto made his first trip to the States in May 2008 when he played with a few big names at various clubs in Manhattan. In his short stint in the U.S. Yuto was a hot commodity. He played with Les Paul at The Iridium, two nights later he hopped onstage with GE Smith and Moonalice at Rebel, and finally he headed over to B.B King Blues Club & Grill to play with GALACTIC. Yuto is now recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's youngest professional guitar player.

The shock that the kid went in when he realized his idol was before him was priceless. He needed a minute to take it all in. Great gift he got too.
Love the way he doesn't look at the guitar as he plays solos. He's got it down intuitively on that guitar which is funny since the guitar is bigger than him.
He's got the rock guitar squeals, vibrato, pull offs and harmonics gown. Very good to see a child can concentrate on his craft to such a degree. Most of all he's not afraid to play in front of a crowd. Too young to think of being insecure since he's already done it a lot. Thats great.

After watching the video a third time and showing it a co-worker, his comment was, "if a nine year old kid can play Ozzy songs, doesn't that say more about the original guitarist than the nine year old?", implying that Randy couldn't have been all that if a nine year old kid can play his tunes.
I responded that you can program a robot to play Randy, but a robot could never COMPOSE what Randy composed. With enough practice, even I can play metal guitar, but I could never get near 1% of the genius of Randy Rhodes.
Still, it got me thinking...

Love the way he mentioned Randy Rhoads three times to make sure the audience heard.
He laughed when Ellen said "Pick up." referring to his "pick". The kid knows English and was able to sing in English which is at least a second language.

Pretty cool.
It would be great if Ozzy were to start up and actively participate in an organization which nurtures and encourages young guitar players. Man...talk about steering kids away from gangs and drugs - screw the church programs geared towards such - let rock n' roll save lives.
Hey man - it would be a whole lot better than the garbage reality shows Sharon comes up with.

Tell your friend that any kid could also probably learn "Aint Talkin' Bout Love" or "Walk". That doesn't mean EVH or Darrell weren't amazing, geniuses like Randy.
I get chills every time I hear Diary of A Madman to this day. Anyone implying Randy was anything less than a monumental genius (25 yr. old at time of death) sickens me almost as bad as the thought that he's no longer with us.
Don't like to post multiple times for a single piece of news but this mattered to me...

Also, I noticed that this kid's pretty fucking polite and his mother seems like a nice mother. Was kinda cute the way she mistranslated Ellen before Ozzy came out. Best of wishes for Yuto and his family.

He's NOT better than Randy Rhodes. Yet. He deserves praise for the potential he's got. I mean, it is pretty damn incredible that he can play better than many adults when the guitar is bigger than him and his hands being pretty small. Kudos to Randy for writing a badass song too.
And don't fuck with the kid for his singing. If you wanna hear 9 year olds sing well go watch Mickey Mouse Club for hte new Britney Spears.

That is one of the coolest things I've seen. I hope all the best for this kid. And I hope he doesn't let "all the best" screw him up as he grows up. As for any asshole pissing on Randy Rhoads, copying someone is always easier than the actual composing itself. Randy was a genius, and this is an awesome thing for Randy that someone so young can appreciate him so much (anyone insulting Randy ought to take a lesson from that). And, for a kid this young to do that well, he must have practiced very hard. It may not have been flawless, but he did a damn awesome job. For Ozzy to come out was great. That's the Ozzy I miss. I wish the other tv Ozzy would go away.
