PAUL RODGERS Says He Is 'Pretty Much Done' With His QUEEN Collaboration
- May 13, 2009

|
According to VH1 Classic Radio, singer Paul Rodgers seems to have amicably parted ways with QUEEN after spending a lot of time with them the past couple years.
"Well, you know, we did a world tour, we did a second tour of Europe and the Far East and Eastern Europe and we did a studio album and I think we're kind of leaving it there gently," Rodgers told VH1 Classic Radio. "It's out there for us to do things in the future if there's something, a huge charity say like Nelson Mandela, I'm always open to that, but I think we are pretty much done."
Next month, Paul Rodgers and the rest of BAD COMPANY will reunite for a tour. The trek, however, is just ten dates, leading many to question why it is so short.
"Well, you know, I've travelled and I'm not worried about [the swine flu and] stuff like that," he said. "I usually find, to be honest with you, that most of those things are exaggerated way out of proportion. You know, I'm not afraid to travel, it's just I want to be able to focus more on waking up in one place and working on music, I think really, and that's really the reason. I think next year I'll probably be touring my brains out."
Fans can see Paul and the rest of BAD COMPANY when the group kicks off their reunion tour on June 20 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

He was not a good fit for THAT band - the album they released was closer to a PR album rather than a Queen record. Queen were known and loved for being symphonic, having huge harmonies and being a little campy at times... Oh plus freddie was very much over the top and all over the place....
I'd say there are few people i 'd like to see Q collaborating with. Age Sten Nilsen is one, Valensia (Aldous Byron Valensia Clarkson) is another. JSS is a third one. Robby Valentine is yet another guy who performs in a similar style.
These guys could possibly take the band forward. And do FM justice vocally ! (JSS not so - but he's definitely got more fire and a far better stage presence than PR plus he's jammed with the band some years ago)
There was even a Scottish chap that did a tremendous FM, in stars in their eyes.... so if they wanna go down the nostalgia avenue - they could enlist HIS services.
MARCH OF THE BLACK QUEEN / DEAD ON TIME / OGRE BATTLE / GREAT KING RAT ! Not RADIO GAGA !!!

Huh? Thats a new one on me!
but, yea... I don't really like him with Queen at all! I glad it's done. I don't know what else they can do, but call it a day.
Sorry Queen.

Sounds like poor sales may have F'd that band over. At least that's what the negative comments (see above) tell me.

Never was really interested in hearing Queen with a singer like Rodgers. Doesn't sound like a good fit. Then again, Mercury is irreplaceable, so.
A Bad Company reunion, however, might be cool. I've always liked their tunes since I was little. Good ol classic rock.

Didn't make sense anyway. Husky-voiced crooner replaces flamboyant, unitard wearing freak. I remember before Rodgers joined, Queen was working with the vocalist from the Little River Band and they were saying how good it sounded. Maybe they could give him a call.

Queen sounded GREAT with George Michael during the Freddie tribute show (that lineup played "Somebody to Love" and *nailed* it). Does anyone think, as I do, that George woyuld fit well, and would he do it?

Valensia is an absolute DEAD RINGER and his own style of writing is close to that of Queen. G.Michael is a pop singer, Queen were a pop band that could SERIOUSLY rock, or a rock band that could tread popular waters w/o loosing their appeal, they were pomp and camp in same measures and grandiose and over the top. 3 of them were extremely good singers and they were all, impressive players and excellent song writers !
Here's valensia's version of Bo-Rhap. He's playing everything BUT the drums ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6h49_5VjRA Robby Valentine : (doing a solo song) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGe-C6hmD_I Age Sten Nielsen (GLAM) : (It's a hard life) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WFranaPT6c Gary Mullen (Scottish Guy-cover band) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmMYpMQVKZk George Michael - (Tribute Concert) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=of-7jmD7OxE

You have never seen or heard the live DVD / CD: JSS live at the Queen convention?
JSS should be the man if they ever think of moving on.. He sang the old tunes perfect! And he has such a charisma.
Quallity choice if it was up to me!

Probably THE most underrated voice in rock. A lot of people don't know this but Coverdale only got the Deep Purple gig when Paul Rogers turned them down. Imagine what Mk IV would have sounded like with Paul?

Grow the fuck up. Are you in the 3rd grade ?
Much respect to Paul but that Queen thing will end up being a bad memory just like when the Doors tried to do a few albums without Jim Morrison.

Would be a good foil musically, but I think there would be no "band vibe" that I think was the main goal of Q+PR.
I like GM, he can sing like crazy, but he can't rock like Paul or Freddie imho.
I think they were a great live act, and maybe we would see more Q+??? in the future?
I like the approach that they are not playing it to safe.

He was great with Queen. Great almost instantly recognizeable vocal style. Granted, he is no Freddy Mercury but he never claimed to be. Rogers is a class act who def held his own given the shoes he was trying to fill.
