KORN, SLIPKNOT, SEVENDUST Members Record Instrumental Song For DEFTONES Bassist - May 19, 2009
KORN bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu has joined forces with KORN drummer Ray Luzier, SLIPKNOT guitarist Jim Root, former KORN axeman Brian "Head" Welch and SEVENDUST's Clint Lowery to record an instrumental song to benefit DEFTONES bassist Chi Cheng.

Video footage of Arvizu talking about this one-time collaboration can be viewed below.

Chi Cheng is said to be "in semi-conscious state" following a November car accident. He was gravely injured in a November 3 car crash in northern California and has "started tracking with eyes and saying words" but he is not yet fully awake.

Cheng's brother recently wrote in an online post that Chi's insurance company had stopped paying for his treatment in mid-January. His mother posted that Cheng's house was returned to the bank and his dog was given away.

Cheng is 38 years old and is a poet as well as a musician. He released a CD of his poetry called "The Bamboo Parachute" in 2000.

Cheng has been a member of DEFTONES since its formation in 1988. The band released its debut disc, "Adrenaline", in 1995 and scored a platinum record with 2000's "White Pony".

That's pretty cool for Chi. It's also bringing back Brian and Fieldy together again; good to know they are on good terms.

It's a thing these guys should've done long time ago, however, FAR OUT BOYS! I'm proud that there still is hope for this scene, there still is a small unity that hasn't yet sold out, and then again - a collaboration of such minds is sure to give nothing but a quallity kickass song! :) + Head and Fieldy playing together, man, Korn are getting back together you'll see :P

I doubt any of Deftones dudes are wealthy as they havent exactly had a hit record since "White Pony" which was 9 years ago. They probably have enough cash to own a nice house and things but they aren't going to be on MTV Cribs anytime soon.

you're right there. even if the Deftones had managed to pull a decent profit from White Pony, the two albums they've released since then have not sold well by any means. The band is notorious for spending up to a year in the studio, and I would wager that the last two albums barely paid for all that studio time. This truly is a shame, and as somebody who's son went through chemotherapy, I can vouch for the horrendous health care system. The average chemotherapy bill submitted to our insurer was over $20k a visit. I recently had a claim rejected for my son's wellness visit at Dana Faber Cancer Institute at the tune of $9K. That's $9K just to go in to make sure his tumor didn't come back (and thank God it didn't, he's 13 months old and finally starting to walk and talk).

and yes, I'd also like to know where his Deftones brothers are during this time. Why not put out an iTunes single or acoustic EP or something and have the proceeds go to him? Maybe their record label won't let them? Then they should do it anyway, and call themselves something different. Tone Def.
