QUEEN's BRIAN MAY Addresses ADAM LAMBERT Rumors
- May 22, 2009
|
|
RollingStone.com reports: After Adam Lambert's killer performance with QUEEN on Wednesday night's season finale of "American Idol" (see video below), rumors flew that he had already been offered a job singing with the band. That's slightly premature, according to the band's guitarist, Brian May. “Amongst all that furor, there wasn't really a quiet moment to talk," May tells Rolling Stone in an e-mail interview. "But [drummer Roger Taylor] and I are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation with him at some point. It's not like we, as QUEEN, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isn't that easy. But I'd certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there." He did do a good job singing in that video. But as new Queen Frontman? I don't know about that. Brian should give maybe try and go after another singer instead IMO.

Adam Lambert already has Frontman Syndrome. Its all about him when he sings. He will front a band eventually, but if he lives the rock lifestyle he'll end up as the next Vince Neil.

Adam sure has the vocal range of Freddie Mercury. If Queen needs a new singer, I would definitely check out Adam if I were them.

While NO ONE can match Freddy's range (halford and king diamond included..), Lambert sounds like a surprisingly good fit
Maybe it will force Paul into reuniting the remains of Bad Company

According to what I heard on the radio today, he already has reunited with them.

Can you say oversinging? Geez! I've been a huge queen fan forever, and I enjoyed what brian and roger did with Paul Rogers, but without him, Brian and Roger would be better off going out as May & Rogers and getting Ronnie James Dio as their singer.

I think Adam's effortless and huge range beats even that of Freddie's. That doesn't mean he should become the new Queen front man, but I think he would do a good job.

If you want a guy with the pipes, better than these American Idol douches, check out Sylvain Cossette's versions of Queen classics. Now THAT is good range.

It took two American Idol d-bags to do a poor imitation of Freddy Mercury? Notice after the emo guy over sang all over the place he started missing notes? If your voice starts blowing out that quick you're not going to even last for your 15 minutes of fame.
Having this guy sing for Queen shows a total disrespect for Freddy. Down right pathetic!

American Idol is just a big machine that cranks out moneymakers for the music industry. And I mean machine literally - it takes a large input and then outputs 1 "star" through a process of elimination.
But of course the "star" can never write songs for shit, so they hire a bunch of writers to compose weak, cheesy pop songs for them to sing over. Essentially, you will never hear anything cool or original resulting from this show.

...leaves out a hugely important point:
Freddie Mercury was also a major songwriter in Queen. Maybe they'll just consider Lambert or some other replacement for a nostalgia tour, which could go over just fine. But if they want to record new material, they'll need more from a singer than just a good voice.
Check out these Freddie Mercury songwriting credits, courtesy Wikipedia:
- Bohemian Rhapsody - Seven Seas of Rhye - Killer Queen - Somebody to Love - Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy - We Are the Champions - Bicycle Race - Don't Stop Me Now - Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Play the Game
That's TEN out of 17 tracks on Queen's Greatest Hits album. Which might also explain why the rest of the band hasn't done much of note since Mercury's passing.

People aren't actually serious about him being a good singer are they? This dude is so overrated its ridiculous. His screechy falsetto is terrible. I know when I hear a good screamer, and he certainly is not one. And joining Queen? Jesus GODDAMN FUCKING Christ. I wish Brian May would stop with this nonsense...Queen is dead, has been since Freddie died. The End.

That's why music has sucked shit for over the last 20 years or more, because it's all genre music. Rock & Heavy Metal is now like Jazz or Classical, where "musicians" just crank out shit that fits the mold of clichéd standards and styles that have been done before. It's been almost 40 years of shitty bands. Where are the "new" Sabbaths, Queens, Zeppelins, or Rushes..... so on and so forth... Nothing but sterile hybrids.

Brian May, and Roger Taylor needs to stop for a second and think. Why even continue under the name Queen? It´s becoming somewhat scary now. The last album Cosmos Rocks was a HUGE flop. Thats a proof that just the name Queen don´t bring any new success. Play as May and Taylor or whatever cause they will never be the force they once were, not even close. They will always sell plenty of concert tickets though. They wouldn´t show Freddie any respect by bringing in this guy(who is quite lame) only because he is hot for a month.

the songs and the style are absent. The need a pompous co-witter/singer and a flamboyant performer. A number of good light-baritone to dramatic or light tenors could be found that might be fit, range wise for the job..... BUT it's not going to sound like Queen - unless it's FLAMBOYANT - over the top - sexy - camp - Baroque !! All in one. And none of these kids has that 70s flash.... They need to get some one - THEIR AGE or at least in his 40s - someone who will have a similar style...!

Anything Queen does now is just a nostalgia tour anyway. Get someone like this dude who can cover the tunes. No one is looking for new music from Queen anyway. That died with Freddy. Now they can have a younger, gayer version. He doesn't sound bad in the clip.

ADAM LAMBERT is a songwriter and has been for some time. He doesn't "screech" falsetto. Go download some of the studio versions of his performances and then come back with your screech comments. He simply has great head voice control and power. His range suites QUEEN material. This would open up a new young market for the QUEEN legacy Freddie would be thrilled about.
George Michael? Comon. he doesn't have the power and range and I cannot imagine QUEEN doing "I want your sex" to placate GM fans in concert...uggghhh
