VENOM Announces New Drummer - May 23, 2009
After holding auditions for the last few months, pioneering British black metal band VENOM has announced the addition of drummer Danté to the group's ranks.

Commented VENOM frontman Conrad "Cronos" Lant: "We had a fantastic response. There were many great players to choose from, but at the end of the day I wasn't looking for someone who could just play the songs, I wanted somebody who was really hungry to be in the band for all the right reasons, and Danté also has all the right qualifications."

VENOM is now in rehearsals with Danté and will be recording demos for the next album over the coming weeks, as well as planning future shows.

Drummer Antony "Antton" Lant (who is also Cronos' brother) announced his departure from VENOM in April. He told BLABBERMOUTH.NET at the time, "I have left for various reasons and would like to concentrate on my own band called DEF-CON-ONE.

DEF-CON-ONE's 10-track CD "Blood Soaks The Floor", is available from the band's MySpace page.

"Hell", the latest album from VENOM, was released in North America in September 2008 via Universal Music Enterprises.

VENOM is planning to release a special-edition version of its "Black Metal" album later this year. According to the band, the new set will contain bonus tracks and a DVD of the "7th Date of Hell" video of VENOM performing live at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, England in 1984.

On October 22, 2008, a two-album Japan-only cardboard sleeve reissue series from VENOM was made available via Universal Music featuring the following LPs:

* "Welcome To Hell" (1981)
* "Black Metal" (1982)

Each cardboard sleeve reissue features the high-fidelity SHM-CD format (compatible with standard CD players).

never fell in love with "Anton" (i love how he's got the name of the Church of Satan founder but his name is Anthony, probably "Tony" to his pals and/or mom).

"...in the name of Satan, great things can be done..."

Cronos is the band.

cheers.

leave the leagcy alone
don't f**k it up by putting out lame remakes of your early shit.
When Venom was a novelty, the world was at their feet. mantas, Abaddon and Cronos. Now, the best we can get is probably a best of. But containing songs of Welcome to Hell through At war with Satan.

Hey Panther, perhaps you leave a post on the Venom site, asking them for a sampler....

I am kinda surprised to hear of Antton's departure. He was a badass skinsman. It couldn't have been easy to replace him. I really didn't get into "Hell" quite as much as "Metal Black". "Metal Black" was viciously heavy!
Anyway, I've loved Venom for years and it's been awhile since they've disappointed me. They oughta be going to the Hall of Fame one day. May they contine to kick ass "Til I'm old an' in me box..."

Huge loss as previously stated by someone above, he has done the right thing by concentrating on DefConOne as he was always more paasionate about that.
Still wish the NufutureCowboys were going as i thought personally they were better still (but you can't have everything can you).....
I don't really think Venom can do anything but trade off the glory days now, but good luck if they can....Rage is an awesome lad and guitarist and i wish him the best.....

Bring Back The Cowboys and While at it Bring Back Slutt ....lol

It's about time they just dropped the Venom banner altogether now and just call the band Cronos.

Good luck to Anton with Def Con, at least he's still striving for something other than regurgitating the same old stuff and living off past successes.
