Resurrected MASSACRE: New Version Of 'Clangor Of War' Posted Online - May 26, 2009
Resurrected Florida-based death metallers MASSACRE are working on a new EP, "Legends Of Death", featuring reworked versions of four classic tunes, "re-recorded and brought up to date." According to vocalist Kam Lee, the EP will be released "totally for the honor of the old-school fans! No TRENDS here!!"

Kam has asked the help of Sweden's Ronnie Bjornstrom (BONE GNAWER, HATE AMMO, RIBSPREADER) to be studio session musician on this EP, and Ronnie has done "a fantastic job" of keeping the tracks to their tradition style and form.

The four classic tunes that will be represented on this EP are as follows:

01. Aggressive Tyrant
02. Clangor Of War
03. Infestation Of Death
04. Perpetual Domination

The new recording of the song "Clangor Of War" is available for streaming on the MASSACRE MySpace page.

Commented the band, "Both Kam and Ronnie have made sure to pay close attention to staying true the style and sound of the original MASSACRE material and want to prove their commitment to the spirit of the band by letting the fans hear it for themselves."

Added Kam: "Lyrically, this track has not been changed that much, a few minor re-works on a few lines, but generally it remains the same. I have always been somewhat of a geek for anything ancient Greece, Greek mythology, and anything to do with ancient history and warfare. The story of the battle at Thermopylae has always been a favorite of mine.

"A lot of you may know this story from the movie '300'. The Spartans battle against the Persians. King Leonidas' army of only 300 Spartans versus the overwhelming number of God-King Xerxes army at the 'Hot Gates' or pass of Thermopylae. Basically, this song is about that historical battle.

"Musically this song was the first track Rick Rozz [guitar] wrote when he first joined MASSACRE, and it originally appeared on the bands demo #2. Many years later, the band NAPALM DEATH ended up doing a cover of this track for their 'Leaders Not Follows Part 2' album. And I should mention — a lot of fans still today ask me what the word 'clangor' means. Clangor is a word that means the sounds of metal clanging and clashing together. Like metal armor hitting together, or like swords clashing together in battle."

Currently, MASSACRE has no record company in place to release this EP, but Kam will be seeking to negotiate a deal with the correct label that is willing to give this release the proper and respectful attention that is needed to get this out to the fans worldwide.

MASSACRE is planning to re-release some of its early recordings to coincide with the band's 25th anniversary. According to the group, there are "plans not only [to] remaster these classic albums, but [to include] new updated artwork for the covers of these reissues." Special previously unreleased bonus tracks may also be added.

A different version of MASSACRE — consisting of DENIAL FIEND members Sam Williams (guitar), Curt Beeson (drums; NASTY SAVAGE), along with ex-MASSACRE/DENIAL FIEND members Terry Butler (bass), Steve Swanson (guitars) and Kam Lee (vocals) — completed a European tour in late 2007.

Not bad, although Kam's vocals are almost a let down. I get that it's been a while since "From Beyond" was released but his vox on that album are some of the best and rawest I've heard. Now it's just lacking that brutality that he had before.

Nonetheless, still good stuff. Hopefully they'll get a label to release this.

First thing that comes to mind.

It's so painfully obvious that voKILList Kam is hurting for money these days after Denial Fiend etc. didn't catch on. I can't help but smell a Di'Anno/Atkins here..

But by all means, release it and do a tour for old times' sake. From Beyond was the shit when it first came out though, too bad it never got the attention it deserved.

In conclusion: Cool idea, but some 15 years too late. I'll give it 2 snaps in a Z-formation.

Let's get that old dreadful logo back on and re-record our 'classics' so people think we're still relevant. This band never "made it" back then for a reason and I can't see why people would be interested now...

If only they'd do it for the right reasons (the good old love of music) but I sincerely doubt their motivations. Gladly, they'll be the only ones let down when they'll realize no one buys this...

Absolutely great! I must agree though that the vokills are not quite as brutal as From Beyond, but still sound great also and it's Kam Lee. It's not going to NOT sound like Massacre vocals unless it's like the Second Coming stuff, his vocals on that were still cool, but just not as good or the same as those of old.

I agree. Kam must be hurting for money AND attention!!! LOL
He should really try to do something on his own instead of trying to make a buck off of something someone else started. Don't quit your 'day job' (if you do infact have a j.o.b.). I mean it's pretty sad when a person has to toot their own horn all the time and try to take credit for every band that he's ever been in. "Hey look at me!!! I founded death metal vokills!!" Heyyyyyy!!
