Ex-ALICE IN CHAINS Bassist MIKE STARR Selected For 'Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew' - May 27, 2009
According to CMT.com, former ALICE IN CHAINS bassist Mike Starr has been selected as a cast member for the new season of the VH1 reality series "Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew". Hosted by Dr. Drew Pinsky, the season will consist of eight episodes that follow the real-life experiences of celebrity patients undergoing detoxification and treatment at the Pasadena Recovery Center. Joining Starr are country singer Mindy McCready, actress Mackenzie Phillips ("One Day at a Time"), former Hollywood Madame Heidi Fleiss, NBA great Dennis Rodman, Lisa D'Amato ("America's Next Top Model"), former Miss United States Teen Kari Ann Peniche and Joey Kovar ("Real World Hollywood").

The new season of "Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew" is scheduled to premiere in early 2010.

Starr joined the New York City-based ALICE IN CHAINS tribute band FACELIFT on stage on May 9, 2009 at Sullivan Hall in New York City to perform three songs — "Man In The Box", "Would?" and "Them Bones" (see video below). According to the members of FACELIFT, Starr "was in great shape and form. [His] performance was flawless and this just about squashes all rumors of his prior poor health condition. The crowd response was amazing as crowd-surfing and high-decibel applause was present."

Video footage of Starr's May 9, 2009 performance with FACELIFT can be viewed below.

Back in April 2005, Seattle's KIROTV.com reported that Mike Starr was arrested in Seattle for vandalizing a car.

A man named Phillip told KIROTV.com that he spotted a man pulling the hood ornament off his vehicle.

He said he recognized the man as Michael Christopher Starr and called police. Starr was arrested for "investigation of property destruction and theft."

Starr, 43, a founding member of ALICE IN CHAINS, had been in legal trouble before in Seattle, Los Angeles, and Salt Lake City. His past charges include DUI, reckless driving, and various drug charges.

Back in April 1994, Starr was sentenced to 30 days in the Houston jail for
misdemeanor drug possession. Starr was arrested at Houston's Intercontinental Airport while trying to check in for a flight to Los Angeles with a suitcase he had stolen from the baggage claim area. Authorities searched him and found he was carrying marijuana.

Video footage of Starr's May 9, 2009 performance with FACELIFT can be viewed below.

to play with a copy band that plays songs from the original band you were formally a member of. It's just kinda weird.

In all honesty I'd probably be an addict if I was in a band that paid tribute to a band I was actually in.

At 6:26 Mikes playing takes a nose-dive.

The band needs a new singer badly. That guy sounds like two dogs humping.

I always was a fan of Michael Starr since he wrote some great music lines with AIC. I was at the NY show the night Starr was there. Face Lift is a talented band to pull it off like they do. I saw Starr outside the place with the lead guitar player of the band. they were eating pizza. I wasnt sure if it was Mike but it sure looked like him. After i gathered up enough nerve to ask him, I found out that he was a real nice guy. The guitar player was charming as well. I asked Mike Starr if he was going to do a song and he said he was planning n it. He smoked a lot of cigarettes and we made small talk. i aked if he lived in Seattle and he said he was now in NY and that he was recording some original songs with the Face Lift guitar player who is also named Mike.
I was like amazing, I thought you retired from music and he was like, Im back. It was really cool, he signed my t shirt and a face lift flyer I pulled off the wall. It was nice to meet him. I dont know what happened in the recording with the singer, it didnt sound like that in the hall when they were playing. The rest was amazing. Seeing the guy that helped write Man In The Box playing with a few guys from Face Lift was awesome. The drummer and guitar player were good. The guitarist was probably the focal point on the stage along with Michael. They have an air about them that keeps it interesting for sure. It was a great night in NY. Mike Starr was on hand and it was totally unexpected. I dont know why Face Lift didnt advertise that he was going to be there? Its all good though. Celeb Rehab for Michael? I didnt gather he was on drugs or alcohol. Him and the other Mike were drinking Red Bull. The other Mike had about 5 in his pockets and gave me one. I would see Face Lift anytime.

The audio does not lie Mudhoney. The vocalist sucks terribly. If they sack him they might just be a top tribute in the NYC area. I mean don't the rest of the guys hear that he sounds nothing like Layne????

He doesn't necessarily have to sound like Layne, he just can't sound like THAT! You are right, the vocalist is not good at all.

I think his playing too a nse dive because he lost his pick at that point and that song needs a pick for the bass to sound right!

Longtime druggy with a wrap sheet to boot.

I'm glad he turned himself in. He shouldn't be looking for publicity since his reputation is ruined due to his history. He must be doing this for the right reason. He must have money too. Those records he played on sold tons.

It's a funny thing, Starr was quite an anonymous member of AIC but when you think of it the band really when down the drain when he left.
Well, probably just a coincidence.

I'll admit that I don't have the best pipes in the world, but even I can do a better cover of Man In The Box.

This is one "tribute" that AIC doesn't deserve.

people have off nights....

i didn't hear the clip, but anyone who actually really knows anything about singing knows that singers have bad nights....

i saw the band facelfit only once back in 2001, and they sounded good.........that was a time ago though.....

singing is the hardest thing to do period in music.....not only do u have to work harder, but you physically need to stay healthy to pull it off right and you need to use correct technique to do so consistently .......

Also left Layne Staley for dead if you believe reports. The guy was doing H with him the night he OD'ed and split because he didn't want to get caught violating his then probation. Hopefully he confesses to this on the show.
