STEVEN ADLER Says AXL Is Being 'A Real Selfish Prick' About GUNS N' ROSES Reunion

A BLABBERMOUTH.NET visitor by the name of Phillip Gregory has submitted the following report: Original GUNS N' ROSES drummer Steven Adler is still holding out for a reunion with the band's "Appetite For Destruction" lineup. Adler, currently on a drum-clinic tour of Australia presented by Allans Music, answered a number of questions to fans at the Sydney clinic last night (Wednesday, May 27). Most queries had to do with Adler's relationship with GN'R frontman Axl Rose and whether Steven is hopeful of a reunion. Adler didn't hold back. " Axl is being a real selfish prick about it," he said. "Forget about the original band for a second. Axl's not thinking about the fans. The fans want a reunion desperately. It's really sad because we are all still alive and I know there's so many people that want to see us. I hope Axl gets it together soon while the fans still want it." Adler praised Axl Rose for his past efforts. " Axl is a genius and I still love the guy," he insisted. "Last time we met — about two three years ago — things were great. We shared a $3000 bottle of tequila and things went smooth. "I really hope for the fans that we do a reunion tour." Adler said he'll return home from Australia later this week where he'll record a track on the upcoming solo album by former GN'R member Slash. "I'm so happy that Slash asked me to be on this album and I record with him as soon as I return home," he said. "After that I'm going to hit the recording studio with ( ADLER'S APPETITE) to do a new album. We'll be touring the U.S. after that.” On his first drum kit: "My first drum kit was actually my mother's Tupperware. I couldn't afford drums when I was a kid. I bought my first set of drums off a friend at school." On his favorite GUNS N' ROSES song: "I'd have to say 'Nightrain'. So much adrenaline rushes through me when I play that." On whether he still listens to "Appetite For Destruction": "All the time. I can never get sick of that." On getting kicked out of GUNS N' ROSES: "It was devastating. My dream had been taken away from me. Saddest part was I had their backs; we were a gang. There were so many times when I had their backs. I used to get into fights at bars defending them. We we a gang. I guess the hardest part was Slash not having my back. We were childhood friends and that was the hardest part not having Slash's back when I got kicked out. You had Slash's back and thought he had your back and it turned out you didn't have his back so you were kicked out.
But the "fans" well, me, I can only speak for myself, I don't want a reunion, Mr. Axl Rose with the Guns 'N Roses Musical ruined my Guns 'N Roses image in 2006.
He will never learn, and he still thinks going on 3 hours late is very rock 'n roll.

Is it selfish to stick with the musicians that have been part of the band for years and go out and tour behind an album that they created or should Axl just fire everyone to reunite with people that quit the band because that's what the "fans" want?
The reality is they would probably only play AFD which would turn it into nothing more than a nostalgia tour/cash grab. No other member would play anything off of Chi-Dem and if you're doing an "original member" tour it shouldn't include UYI if Steven didn't play on it (except one song).
I won't bash Adler but his entire career has revolved around an album that came out 22 years ago. Influential as it may be everyone else has moved on and have a body of work to show for themselves. He's created a Gn'R cover band partially named after said album. I would love to see him join a band and just play and enjoy playing.

much agreed, i love steven, an incredible drummer but he hasnt been happy, it wouldve been nice to see him in another kick ass band n be like wow he drummed 4 guns,,, yet, i dont wanna see a reunion tour, igrew up loving them n slash is why i picked up a guitar but seeing a reunion would only ruin it for me, it wouldnt be kick ass n over the top, when i first saw velvet revolver play, it was exciting tp see slash n duff n matt play real music n cover gnr stuff, a reunion would suck, n goin on at like 1 am fora show axl is not very cool at all, people have lives n kids n have to work, so ona side note reunion or not, knokitdafuck off already.

if they did reunite, i think it would be with matt, anyhow. i think steven's too much of a fuck up. plus i don't think it'd be good for his mental/physical health. they'd find him in the bathroom smoking crack again. don't get me wrong, i love his drumming on "appetite", but i don't think he could do the sorum songs. he's not that technical of a drummer.

i dont get it everybody is on steven,s case i think he is doing fine and i feel he has a good sense of what the fans want ...i would really love to see the orginal lineup ..i never got to see them way back when..:) but i think axl is the real ass here yes he the most cool front man but think of all the stunts he has pulled and yes steve is the one people make fun of....he never made people wait 3 hours before going on

Sorry dude. Axl never made you do the drugs. You chose your path. Every time you publicly bash the dude, it puts you another foot away from the reunion you so want. By now, I'd say you're about 3000 miles away.
Play with Slash. Hell, play with anyone. Just play. If Axl wants your skills again, he'll call. If not, hang it up. Or at least stop publicly bashing the guy.
Yeah, a GnR reunion with the original line-up would be cool, but Axl won't do it. Chalk it as a loss and just play music for the love of playing, man.

I very much doubt there will ever be an (AFD era) G'nR reunion - way too much animosity exists all these years later. The way things are going, I doubt even Velvet Revolver will be brought back to life.

for sure. The Axl Rose story at the very least is intriging. A trainwreck. Rock's Howard Hughs. The insecurities, the psychosis', pulling the plug on one of rock's biggest acts. A major player that just disappeared. I'd love to know the behind the scenes stuff, how Dizzy remained on the GnR payroll during the dormant years (95-2000), by delivering Axl's meals to his room through a doggy door, the maid's account of Axl's tantrums when his braids wouldn't take & stay in....to Axl showing up in town with his eyebrows shaved. All the twisted stories, from befriending Buckethead & spending nights in his Hen House....Dizzy will never be fired, for fear Axl's stories will be unearthed. Rock's true madman, a functioning Syd Barrett...least that's what I'd like to believe...otherwise this is truly just a sad boring story.

that happened, its a reality. Album took a while to sell 500K(Gold) and stuck there. Initial purchases from The TBoners of the world, a few old, curious fans, and fizzle. no word of mouth, no radio play, no videos, no tour, no promotion, 1 interview, and Best Buy left with lots of copies....If, IF he ever releases another CD, there will be no Best Buy parachute, $$ talks & he didn't produce.
Steven really does need to move on. Slash may keep a bar of his playing to put on his album, and get rid of Adlers appetite. do what the stiff Brett Michaels did & cash in on your reality fame, release new material. Live in the present.

I ve seen some of adler `s videos and I was a little disapointed about his playing/ (big fan of his golden days)/ but recently I saw and heard his playing from a really close and clear spot, live in sao paulo.
The man is still rockin as hell., really nice and a great character as well!! he could easylly play with slash, guns or whoever./ love matt as well., but as a drummer for GnR, I m with adler.
Axl is fucked up in the head., and he doesn t have that balls and rebel anger that he used to./ clear thin sissy voice theses days, fuck axl and his damn circus. Guns were 5 awesome dudes. axl is a nut.

Hi. I'm the guy that wrote the article and spoke to Steven at the clinic. may I just say that Steven was sincere about Axl and the guy has to take those comments with a grain of salt. Steven doesnt hate Axl he just feels Steven is being selfish about not giving the fans what they want. If Axl is offended by that he needs to toughen up.
The fact is, fans for years have demanded a reunion. All it would take is for Axl to accept a reunion tour, do say 20 shows, and be done with it. Everyone can get on with their lives and Axl can go back to doing whatever he wants with his 'new guns'.
Its simple as that.
With regards to comments that some have made suggestion Steven cant play drums. People saying that obviously havent seen him play.
Nobody plays the GNR songs with more passion, love and originality as Steven Adler.
Steven Adler is doing the right things by the fans, along with Slash, Duff and Izzy.

but I don't think that Axl ever will. I'm sure it's pride, because he's been so adament that he would be "bigger" on his own, and that didn't happen. But fuck pride! A GnR tour would be the biggest thing to happen to rock and roll in a long time!

I agree gnrnrsfan. Steven Adler is a great person and only wants to play music, a profession that he loves.
Its unfortunate that Axl can't end his fued with his former bandmates. If it comes down to pride, than he's a sad person.
It isnt good living with so much conflicts, etc going on in your life.
Someone needs to lock Axl, Slash, Adler, Duff and Izzy in a room with a couple of kegs of beer and let them sort their issues out.
Its simple as that.
The only standout is Axl's lack of work ethic. He appears to have zero respect for any GNR fan. If he did have respect for them, he would do the simplest courtesy by showing up to a concert on time. He appears blatantly disrespectful to the millions of fans who have supported him over the years.
To give the former GNR guys credit, despite what anyone says about record sales, they have all maintained their music careers in some form which is what they enjoy most.
Axl is good at blaming everybody else for GNR's demise. To continually point the finger at Slash is crap because it wasn't Slash who drove out all the members. Axl did that all on his own.
I'm sure Slash, Adler, Duff and Izzy don't care about getting an apology. They just want to get the band back together and make some more records.
Guns N Roses has the potential to be the number 1 band on the planet once again.
The so called 'nu guns' receive only the reputation as a covers band, nothing more, nothing less.
Axl was better off changing the name for CD because Guns N Roses was a gang of five members.

Steven Adler really needs to move on. Axl Rose needs to remember that fans provided him with a lifestyle few can only dream of. Slash needs to sever all ties with Simon Cowell. Matt Sorum is a fucking walking cliche. Duff and Izzy are the only ones I have true respect for. Oh, and that T-Boner guy? What the fuck? Or rather, WHAT THE FUCK? P.S. On the subject of the Guns N' Roses reformation, I hope it never happens. It would never be as good. The people involved would be richer, but the legend would be poorer. Luckily, Axl has the intelligence to realise this.
What the hell could Slash have given to the new album? Sorry mate, but you were good in your time and your work since says it all.

GnR are 1/2-PR & R&R, never got into them, though have good songs. Bands like King's X, Loudness, TNT, Y&T, & Shotgun Messiah, should've been bigger (still are) than GnR, but never got as much PR as GnR did. GnR are mostly a publicity stunt & I would challenge their music catalogue anyday, with those of the bands above, & know what, GnR would loose!!!
Nothing againt the band & have to give lots of credit to Axl for his guts to do whatever he wants, with whomever he pleases. Addler & other band members sound just pathetic, making comments about a reunion & blaming Axl. They should've reunited without Axl & find a kickass singer, that is what you need to do Addler!

As an ardent GN'R fan, I would give my life if the band reunites. However, I am amused by the comments of some of the ex-gunners like Steven Adler.
They talk like they are so holy and Axl plotted their downfall for no fault of theirs. What about Adler's acute drug problems that prompted them to throw him out...Axl has gone on record to say that 'Civil War' was recorded a good 60 times due to problems with Adler. His "good friend" Slash, in another article, stated that the band had to edit the drum track to Civil War simply to be able to play along with it. And what about the numerous number of times he had to be substituted on drums for several shows.
It was also a well known fact that Adler was briefly fired from the band, but was reinstated after signing a contract promising to stop using drugs. So he was given a chance after all.
The official reason for his departure at that time, according to various members of the band, was his heavy substance abuse which impeded his ability to work. He used to reportedly show up at the recording studio completely high and recording sessions would abort for several days when he couldn't put it together.
So why is he blaming Axl all the time? I do not know or want to judge the reason for disintegration of the band, but I just feel it is not fair that a sole member should be severely lashed at just because he chooses to stay away and do his own thing.
I absolutely admire Duff, because he holds himself with great dignity even when sections of the media grill him about the band.

I hope axl will come around Steven does have a point that they are all still alive and that it's just unfair how they can't just all come together and it's really mostly axl, but I still love him though bit he just needs to realize it's not GnR without the Appitite For Destruction lineup!

i think it's safe to say that axl wins
he may not have made as many records as other icons but at least he grew up and moved on. realized he wasn't young anymore. unlike a certain adler
