EXHORDER Rejoined By Original Bassist - May 31, 2009
Reactivated legendary New Orleans metallers EXHORDER — cited by many as the originators of the riff-heavy power-groove approach popularized by PANTERA (photo) — have been rejoined by the band's original bassist, Andy Villafarra. The group is currently working on material for a new studio album which is tentatively expected sometime in 2010.

A brand new audio interview with EXHORDER guitarist Vinnie LaBella conducted by Patrick of Full Metal Rock is available for streaming at this location.

EXHORDER's 2009 lineup is as follows:

Kyle Thomas - Vocals
Vinnie Labella - Guitar
Jay Ceravolo - Guitar
Chris Nail - Drums
Andy Villafarra - Bass

Poland's Metal Mind Productions re-released the two albums (1990's "Slaughter in the Vatican" and 1992's "The Law") from EXHORDER in May 2008. Each limited-edition digipack title (limited to 2,000 copies) was made available on golden disc, digitally remastered using 24-bit technology.

Rare video footage of EXHORDER putting the finishing touches on their classic debut album, "Slaughter in the Vatican", in August 1990 at Morrisound Recording in Tampa, Florida can be viewed below.

Several live video clips from EXHORDER's 1998 reunion show have been posted online. These three clips are from August 14, 1998 and were filmed at a club called Zeppelin's in Metairie, Louisiana (although the clips are labeled "NOLA"). This was the second appearance they made as the reunited EXHORDER (the first was at Tipitana's in New Orleans a few weeks earlier). The band got up and did these three songs after Kyle Thomas' band FLOODGATE finished their set that night. Watch the clips at YouTube:

"Homicide" (video)
"Anal Lust" (video)
"Legions of Death" (video)

EXHORDER's lineup that night was as follows:

Kyle Thomas - Vocals
Vinnie Labella - Guitar
Jay Ceravolo - Guitar
Chris Nail - Drums
Kevin Thomas (Kyle's brother) - Bass

This band were never good enough so their claim to fame was to cry "THEY STOLE THAT FROM US" weak.

I'm glad to see that EXHORDER are back. They were the biggest draw at the VFW Hall and Storyville in New Orleans years before they had a contract. The "Get Rude" and "Slaughter" demos, blew everything out the water and still do. It's shame that a lot of these kids on here are talking crap about them. They have no idea because they weren't there. EXHORDER influenced ALOT of bands. They deserve respect, because they earned it!

AND THEY ARE AWESOME! BUT FOR EVERYONE WHO SAYS PANTERA RIPPED THESE GUYS OFF, NEEDS TO FUCK OFF! THEY BOTH HAVE A UNIQUE STYLE AND SOUND. DIMEBAG WAS AN ORIGINAL PLAYER, HE DID NOT RIP OFF ANYONES RIFFS.

one band that sucks from Louisiana? Graveyard Rodeo. I just can't get into them. Otherwise I'm a big fan of this scene, from as obscure shit as Incubus and Hawg Jaw all the way up to Down.

Great metal scene down there!

Anyone on this site, saying Metallica are "groovy" and citing "Seek and destroy" as an example, should know that "She can destroy" is a complete rip-off of Diamond Head's "Sucking my love".

Listen closely to the riff which starts at 0:48 here:

wouldn't know good music if it kicked them in the junk. I pay respect where it's due, and these guys deserve plenty.

COMMENT | Pantera were indeed "heavily inspired" (let's put it like that)

By this band, just listen carefully to the riffs and vocals, if you still can't tell you're in denial.
I'm glad they're back and I can't wait for the new album.

Along with finally getting back together with Vinnie and Jay, Kyle is also writing music with guitarist Ralph Santolla (Death, ex-Iced Earth).
