MORBID ANGEL: Sydney Photos, Video Footage Available - June 7, 2009
Photos of MORBID ANGEL's June 5, 2009 concert at The Metro Theater in Sydney, Australia can be found at HailMetal.com.

Fan-filmed video footage of the show can be viewed below.

"Blessed Are The Sick", the seminal death metal classic by MORBID ANGEL, will be reissued by Earache Records as a special DualDisc format redux edition on July 27.

MORBID ANGEL's second album, "Blessed Are The Sick" was originally released in 1991 and is widely regarged as one of the most important death metal releases of all time. This essential album is now due to be re-released in a deluxe, multi-panel digipack with the album on one side of the disc and an exclusive bonus DVD on the other side. The DVD side contains a brand new, exclusive one-hour documentary featuring interviews with the band and crew discussing the recording and release of the album, and highlighting the band's rise from underground heroes to worldwide flag-bearers for the death metal scene.

To celebrate this important release, a special limited-edition picture disc LP will also be issued, marking the first time the album has been available on this format.

MORBID ANGEL guitarist Trey Azagthoth recently spoke to Revolver magazine about the band's upcoming album, which will mark the Florida-based group's first release to feature bassist/vocalist David Vincent since 1995's "Domination".

"We played the new song 'Nevemore' on the last tour and that kind of shows where our heads are at," he said. "I'd say it's like an assemblage of all sorts of stuff from the catalog and some new influences. I listen to a lot of hardcore [techno] music now — the fuckin' serious, artistic stuff, not that crap you hear at the clubs. That stuff has impact and it's really extreme. Even if there's no guitar in it or no real drums, the energy coming out of the speakers is amazing."

When asked who's going to be producing the album and what label it will be on, Azagthoth replied, "All I can say is, when it's ready, it's going to be extreme and outside the box. And, hopefully, the songs will inspire people to look deeper inside themselves for 'the stuff' and to tap that potential that we as human beings have."

saw them in Melbourne and it was a killer show, but they played WAY too many songs off Covenant (almost the whole album) and barely any songs off Blessed Are The Sick and its a FAR superior album IMO.... cant make sense of it.

Anyway cant wait for the new album, im sure it will be better than Heretic which was a shocker for MA standards. Worst production ever!

Each time a "news" from MA comes, more increases the antecipation on the new record, and more increases the possibility of an amazing failure when it finally comes.

Well, if the creativity is gone, just quit. Change the name, or create a new project (hardcore techno maybe)... but... shows and more shows playing the past records... almost 6 years playing exactly the same setlist with a new weak song... it´s embarrassing for a band that once was called "kings of death metal".

Since the last Morbid Angel record, Behemoth did 3 AWFUL masterpieces, Napalm Death did 4 CLASSIC records and Cannibal Corpse did 3 or their best albuns to date.

I think it´s time to step off and stop to act like Rolling Stones... playing alive the same setlist (for 6 years), with people who bashed each other for years (Trey/David) just to guarantee their retirement.

I refuse to watch a MA show until a new record comes. And I say it as a huge fan of this awesome band.

Respect.

I would love to be your therapist--if this is how you feel about a band that you think is awesome, then life must be pretty bleak and I think we could really make some progress into finding your happy place for $400 per hour.

But if that doesn't work, then I think the least these bands could do is consult YOU first before writing or recording anything new--since you seem to know how exactly to achieve Death Metal greatness.

he never ceases to amazing me with the influences he can take from the weirdest genres of music and incorporate it into his solos and riffs. Judging by the new song, i have high expectations for the new cd. I think they will deliver. I highly doubt the creative well have dried up for Trey. Heretic, although a weirdly composed cd, was one of their best.

When they played Immortal Rites and Vincent started doing that operatic singing in place of the keyboards, I cracked up. Realy funny but effective too!

You really made me think deeply about everything you've told me in your intense words.

Well...

Next.

COMMENT | I hope there are hardcore techno influences on the new album

Morbid Angel started as innovators, but then they stagnated a bit.
That would be amazing as I love hardcore techno and it would also piss many "troooooo evil brooootaaaaaaaaallers" off, which is always a welcome bonus as I can't stand narrowminded pricks.

Yaknow: That was fantastic, it sounded really good.
