ASPHYX: 'Death...The Brutal Way' Limited Edition To Include Bonus DVD - June 9, 2009
Reformed Dutch death metal outfit ASPHYXMartin van Drunen (vocals), Wannes Gubbels (bass/vocals), Paul Baayens (guitar) and Bob Bagchus (drums) — will release its comeback album, "Death...The Brutal Way", on June 22 via Century Media Records. War Anthem Records will release the LP version of the effort, which was recorded at the Sonic Assault studio and engineered by Frank Klein Douwel (who is also the band's live sound engineer). Mixing duties were handled Dan Swanö (NIGHTINGALE, EDGE OF SANITY and BLOODBATH fame) at Unisound in Sweden.

The "Death...The Brutal Way" cover artwork was created by Mick Koopman (HAIL OF BULLETS, DEAD HEAD) and can be viewed below.

The limited-edition version of "Death...The Brutal Way" will contain additional slipcase packaging as well as a bonus DVD featuring the band's entire, unforgettable reunion show from 2007's Party.San festival in Bad Berka, Germany.

"Live at Party.San Open Air Festival 2007" bonus DVD track listing:

01. Vermin
02. M.S. Bismarck
03. Serenade In Lead
04. The Sickening Dwell
05. Food For The Ignorant
06. The Krusher
07. Wasteland Of Terror
08. Asphyx (Forgotten War)
09. Pages In Blood
10. The Rack
11. Last One On Earth

Video footage of "The Rack" performance from the "Live at Party.San Open Air Festival 2007" bonus DVD can be viewed below.

Commented the band: "We just got back from a fantastic show in Athens, Greece...and the release date of our new album, 'Death...The Brutal Way', is coming nearer! So far we got great media response on our album and it's even been voted 'album of the month' in some magazines as well, so that makes us really proud! Watch out for the limited edition version of the release which includes a bonus DVD from the reunion show at the Party.San festival in 2007. Why add a bonus DVD? Well, that was simply a brilliant show and that's actually where it all started again for ASPHYX! Our album release show on the 4th of July at Turock in Essen, Germany will be filmed, so if you are a true old-school death metal fan in the area, make sure to be present!"

ASPHYX has scheduled a CD-release club show for "Death...The Brutal Way" on Saturday, July 4 at Turock in Essen, Germany. Support for this special event will come from DESASTER and NECROS CHRISTOS.

The group previously said about the new CD: "Cliché or not, this truly IS the heaviest ASPHYX album of all. This could easily be THE real follow-up to 'The Last One On Earth'. The songs are as always catchy, brutal and straight-forward. The slower parts have become even more slow and heavier than ever before. This is doom/death metal in the real ASPHYX spirit. This will grind everything to its grave! This is death metal as we, ASPHYX, like it best. Old school to the bone!"

ASPHYX last year released a seven-inch EP, "Death the Brutal Way", via Iron Pegasus Records. The single includes the brand new title track plus a cover of CELTIC FROST's "Os Abysmi Vel Daath" from the Swiss legends' "Monotheist" album. Both cuts were recorded in January 2008 at the Harrow studios.

... the drummer really can't hold the beat. In other words - and in no offense to him as a person - he's not a good drummer. I am sorry ;-)

This album will absolutely slay, I'm sure.

I hope Century Media do that buy a CD/shirt together deal they do oftentimes.

If you love Asphyx, then you MUST hear the new album from Razor of Occam called "Hymn to Martyrs" as well as the new Destroyer 666 "Defiant" which comes out around the same time as the Apshyx album.

Again 2009 is a great Metal year.

This will definitely kill!!! Asphyx will clear the path of all the bullshit modern metal wusses!!! It seems that today's metal enthusiasts are so critical of musicians abilities. So what if Bob Bachus isn't a Pete Sandoval type drummer, it's about the intensity and the actual feel of doom and death! Fuck all these Mr. "oh I'm the most technicalest drummer/guitarist/bassist" bullshit! FUCK YOU POSERS! Metal is about in your face and fuck you, not about bla bla bla I use this type of bla bla bla equipment... and so on and so forth!

I didn't mention ANYWHERE that Bob should sound like Pete Sandoval, nor I am only talking about "keeping the beat", nothing more, nothing less. To play tight is the minimal necessity if you're a drummer; technical skill is (far) less important.

You could have left the FUCK's out of your comment; I understood your point.

Cheers,

Sándor

I can't hold the beat? Than either we,Asphyx,or the producer must be quite deaf,'coz if we discovered something like that we would have re-recorded the piece at once...you either like the drumming or you don't,that's a matter of taste and I'll respect that, but nothing is off-beat here.Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but it's always very easy to comment/judge on things even when that person wasn't involved in the songwriting/recording process. But then again,I'll respect everybody's opinion, but if something wasn't tight, believe me,we would have noticed. For the rest, have a very good day.

cheers,

Bob/Asphyx
