KATY PERRY Goes 'Power Metal'!

A heavy metal fan by the name of Andy Xiong has taken it upon himself to record a "power metal" version of the KATY PERRY smash hit "I Kissed A Girl" featuring the original vocal track by Katy and the rest of the instrumentation by Andy himself. Check out the impressive results below. The original version of "I Kissed a Girl" was produced by Dr. Luke for Perry's 2008 album "One of the Boys". According to Perry, the song is "about the magical beauty of a woman." Released as the album's lead single, "I Kissed a Girl" was a commercial success. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming the 1000th chart-topper of the "rock era." The song has since become a major worldwide hit, and along with the United States, it has topped the charts in more than 30 countries, including Australia, Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom. "I Kissed a Girl" was performed at the 51st Grammy Awards where it was honored as the "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance." It was also nominated for "Favorite Song" at the 2009 Kids' Choice Awards.

I love that he didn't just take the harmonies and chords of the regular song, but worked out his own! It gives the song - which obviously sucks - a completely different feeling. More dramatic and more Power Metal. I like the approach. From the musical point of view he did great work!
If you expect Power Metal NOT to be generic you're quite obviously a jerk.

Awesome! It's indeed basic power metal riffing and keys, but the vocal track is neatly in the song. If this was done by a proper band, like for instance Stratovarius with Katy on vox, it would be awesome to see live!

I've never heard of this Katy Perry. I'm a huge power Metal fan but the 'joke?!' is completely lost on me. I suppose that is the perhaps only disadvantage of listening exclusively to metal for 30 years is that I miss most of these pop culture references. I'd never heard a Britiny Spears song until that COB cover version a couple of years ago, either.
My friend the other day was teasing me because there was something posted hear about a band called Creed, reforming. I asked, "Who the hell are 'Creed? and who cares if some band no one has ever heard of is reforming." and he proceeded to merciless taunt me (as good friends do) for being a completely out of touch.
Oh, well, that song was awesome. I'm gonna go listen to some Nightwish.

Bands like Crescent Shield, Pharoah, Running Wild and Falconer
are great and I do not expect them to be generic because they are power metal.

Katy Perry is one of the better artists out there today. I don't think she's as good as Mastodon or Meshuggah, certainly not as good as Mercenary, but from a pop standpoint there is no one better than Katy Perry right now.
