JOURNEY Guitarist Interviewed At U.K.'s DOWNLOAD Festival; Video Available - June 20, 2009
Paul Marshall of Marshall Amplification conducted an interview with guitarist Neal Schon of American rock legends JOURNEY at this year's Download festival, which was held June 12-14 at Donington Park, United Kingdom. Watch the chat below.

JOURNEYSchon, Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Ross Valory (bass), Deen Castronovo (drums) and Arnel Pineda (vocals) — earned platinum honors in 2008 for the band's latest album, "Revelation", marking JOURNEY's 11th platinum album certification to date.

"Revelation" entered the national Top 100 charts in six countries in its debut week of release in Europe. These results marked the band's biggest first-week sales since 1996's "Trial By Fire" and one of Frontiers Records' best overall sales results in the label's 10-year history.

In the U.S., JOURNEY's CD/DVD package "Revelation" sold more than 104,000 copies in its debut week according to Wal-Mart Stores, marking the band's biggest first week's sales since 1996's "Trial By Fire". Released in June 2008, "Revelation" was sold exclusively at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club in North America, Walmart.com and Samsclub.com, and JOURNEY's official web site, Journeymusic.com. "Revelation"'s first-week sales marked a 1400% increase over the band's 2005's first-week sales of "Generations".

Journey along with other bands who are not Metal & even border on being Hard Rock, do have one thing that both of these genres possess, & that is musicianship & complex solos/arrangements etc..

Schon is a BADMAN in the world of guitarists, & should not be taken lightly.
Do I love everything he/Journey has done over the years (like Randy "I'm Not Feelin' It, Dawg"Jackson to replace Ross Valory on bass), no.
But to say that they have no place is a bit naive.

Maybe because a lot of people who are into metal are into Journey, though a lot of them won't admit it. They are a great rock band and amazing musically, so why the bitching? Save that for when something like Korn, Limp Bizkit, or Nickelback shows up on here.

I was at that show. Completely agreed, his tone was better than Satch, Vai and Johnson, right from the first note. Whether I personally cared for Schon's style or not didn't matter that night. His tone was so good, it really was a joy to hear him jamming with those other great players.

Journey musicians are great but without Steve Perry it just isn't the same. His voice is unmatched. Arnel is great but Perry is awesome.
