SHADOWS FALL: New Album Title Revealed - June 22, 2009
Massachusetts metallers SHADOWS FALL have set "Retribution" as the title of their new album, tentatively due on September 15 via via the band's newly created record label in conjunction with Warner Music Group's ILG and Ferret Music.

Video footage of SHADOWS FALL performing a brand new song entitled "A Public Execution" — which is set to appear on "Retribution" — on June 20, 2009 at a private party in Southwick, Massachusetts can be viewed below.

SHADOWS FALL vocalist Brian Fair recently spoke to Noisecreep about the band's decision to form their own label.

"We had an amazing run with Century Media that opened up many doors and taught us even more," he said. "This led to our decision to sign with a major label like Atlantic Records to see what that world was all about. We realized quickly that the entire music industry was in a state of flux and panic as sales figures and profits were dropping by huge percentages each year. It was time to change up the business model in a way that would help break the cycle of large unrecouped budgets and put the power and profits back in the hands of the band."

Fair continued, "In a traditional record deal, the band is fronted large amounts of money by the label and they control the spending for promotion and video that then must be paid back through album sales, leaving the band as the last ones to get paid as the money trickles in. In our current deal, we have the power of a major label distributor combined with the everyday input of an independent label that understands our music and scene."

Fair told Revolver magazine that the band's new songs are similar to those on 2007's "Threads of Life", though darker and almost ballad-free. "There's more like two half-ballads," he said. "There are some acoustic moments and some melodies that let the songs breathe, but there's old-school thrash as well. We've written a lot of fast stuff which is definitely going to be fun to play live."

"Threads of Life" was made available through Atlantic in the U.S. and Roadrunner Records in Europe.

SHADOWS FALL guitarist Matt Bachand was recently interviewed on "The Barry Kirkey Radio Show". The program is now available for download as an MP3 audio file at this location.

...or I'm done with this band!
The last CD was utter garbage.

There are millions of bands to listen to, so there is no reason to be blindly loyal!

I will add though, the song above does sound like SF of old - which is good news!

Isn't that like the 100th album to be named retribution this decade?

This is one of those bands I can enjoy live, but can't stand to listen to any of their albums. Their singer's voice just makes me want to light my speakers on fire. I have no idea what it is that grates on my ears so badly, but the man's voice does so like fingers on a chalk board.

The album titled should be called Redistribution...

I was out on this band the first time I ever heard them.

I still don't get why so many people want to bag on these guys...maybe they aren't your favorite band - but overall they write good tunes and have great metal drumming and guitar work and that pits them way ahead of a lot of bands out there

COMMENT | Sounds promising

AND WHO GIVES A SHIT IF YOU DONT! I WILL PICK UP THE NEW ALBUM IN SEPTEMBER. AND I WILL ADD THAT, 'RETRIBUTION' IS VERY UN-ORIGINAL. BUT, THEY WILL HAVE A REASON FOR IT. SHADOWS FALL IS BAD ASS!

PISS - MALEVOLENT CREATION'S 'RETRIBUTION', CARRIES THE BEST METAL ALBUM OF THAT TITLE.

COMMENT | I am really looking forward to this!

Shadows Fall is one of the very best (and most underrated) metal bands out there today, and I have no doubt that Retribution will be an amazing record. The new song is great and sounds like a return to the band's earlier days. It would be ideal, in my opinion, if the new record borrows from the early material while continuing where Threads of Life left off. Can't wait until September!

The new song (A Public Execution/Fuck It All) sounds promising based on the live videos that have popped up. This new album could be pretty good, I'll check it out when the time comes.
