DOWN: Canadian Dates Announced - June 22, 2009
DOWN — the acclaimed New Orleans band featuring CORROSION OF CONFORMITY guitarist/vocalist Pepper Keenan, drummer Jimmy Bower (EYEHATEGOD, SUPERJOINT RITUAL guitarist), bassist Rex Brown (ex-PANTERA), guitarist Kirk Windstein (CROWBAR), and vocalist Philip Anselmo (SUPERJOINT RITUAL, ex-PANTERA) — has scheduled the following Canadian dates:

Aug. 06 - Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg, MB
Aug. 07 - Edmonton Event Centre - Edmonton, AB
Aug. 08 - MacEwan Hall - Calgary, AB
Aug. 10 - Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver, BC

Tickets go on sale Friday, June 26 at 10:00 a.m. via Ticketmaster.ca.

During a chat with NME TV, DOWN drummer Jimmy Bower revealed that the band will tour select U.S. markets with the MELVINS in August/September. The group will then return to the studio from October through December to record what will eventually become the fourth DOWN album, tentatively due in early 2010.

DOWN/ex-PANTERA singer Philip Anselmo recently spent time at home in New Orleans recovering from surgery. Anselmo said in an April online posting, "this time it was a semi-torn ACL [anterior cruciate ligament, one of four ligaments that are critical to the stability of the knee joint] and a semi-torn meniscus [a common knee injury that can cause pain in the joint]."

In October 2008, DOWN released a "deluxe edition" of its critically acclaimed third album, "Over the Under". The deluxe package, which was made available as a Best Buy exclusive, includes a DVD with over 30 minutes of previously unreleased live performances and behind-the-scenes footage. The album was released on Down Records in conjunction with Warner Music Group's Independent Label Group (ILG).

I saw them opening for H&H and Megadeth. Unfortunately, that day they cancelled their appearance because Phil had the sniffles. So I wasn't in a rush to get there. I get there, I'm in line for beer, and I see my brother in law, who says "did you see Down?". I said "no they cancelled". He says "no, they are on right now, I think this is their last song".

FUUUUUUGHHH.

I hope they have a decent act opening. Maybe the Melvins will play their "select" dates in Canada too?

WTF?? why are none of these tours playing east of Winnipeg??? I mean i know that Toronto is a shithole, but at least they could sell enough tix to negate playing there. not to mention Kingston, Ottawa....... .even that french country Quebec.

By FAR one of the stupidest posts I've read in awhile. Way to sound like a stereotypical Pantera fan.

Those are the places where they bailed two years ago on the Sabbath tour cause of Phil's strep throat. I've been waiting two and a half years for these guys to get back to Calgary. Hope it's worth it.

Last time I checked, Vancouver & Calgary were not "bumfuck candian Prairie cities".

Edmonton and Winnipeg however....

they still owe me a concert in Montreal from 2002 when Phil apparently hit his eye on a mic stand while headbanging and didn't perform. I had to sit through god damn Meshuggah and System of a Down only to have Down cancel. Haha. Oh well saw them play the first show of Heaven & Hell's reunion. Boo yeah!

As much as I'd love to see Down again....I'm not bothered, because Montreal has these killer shows coming up. I love taking the drive from Ottawa to Montreal to see shows. Ottawa has nothing for a music scene or proper venues.

June 29th - Behemoth @ Medley
July 28th - Queensryche @ Club Soda
September 8th - Killswitch Engage/In Flames @ Cepsum
September 3rd - Motorhead @ Metropolis
September 27th - Obituary/Krisiun/Goatwhore/Warbringer @ Foufounes
September 29th - Porcupine Tree @ Metropolis

Thanks for the Motorhead heads up. They're one of the last band on my list to see. I've seen every other band on it except Gorod, Decapitated, Annihilator, Death, The Beatles and Patera.

I'll be making a lot of the same trips myself. Can't ask for a better venue than Metropolis, except maybe the Commodore in Van.

As for Ottawa, I don't mind going and seeing some Lynyrd Skynyrd and Kiss action since it's around the corner. I can't complain. Plus nowhere better to be on July 1st.

down...what a joke. go back a few years and get Floodgates album penalty. THATS where down got their sound....oh gee, isn't that the singer from none other than Exhorder? why yes, that crazy phil, trying once again to be "creative" he's such a puss. I made the mistake of seeing these guys a while back. sadly, another wasted moment in my pathetic life.
