'Guitar Hero: Van Halen' To Arrive In November/December

According to a posting on the Van Halen News Desk web site, the Guitar Hero: Van Halen video game will be made available in November/December. An exact release date has not yet been announced.
A spokesperson for Activision recently confirmed that Guitar Hero: Van Halen will not include ex-bassist Michael Anthony or former singer Sammy Hagar, according to RollingStone.com. Questions about whether they would be featured arose when the game was previewed at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles and only members of the current lineup — which includes original vocalist David Lee Roth and teenage bassist Wolfgang Van Halen — appeared in both a trailer and selected song clips.
The spokesperson confirmed that only guitarist Eddie Van Halen, drummer Alex Van Halen, Wolfgang — who is Eddie's son — and Roth show up in the game.
While the spokesperson could not say whether any songs from Hagar's four albums with the group would be part of the game, it doesn't seem likely. The trailer and clips shown at E3 only focused on Roth-era tracks like "Jump", "Panama", "Hot For Teacher" and "Little Guitars".
Meanwhile, Michael Anthony continued to push back against Eddie Van Halen's assertion in a recent interview that Anthony quit VAN HALEN. Anthony told Classic Rock magazine, "I never quit the band . . . I loved VAN HALEN; I loved everything we did. Hell, I was one of the only two guys who showed up for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. I love the legacy of the band but I am moving on . . . Ed needs to do that too."

If nothing else Micheal Anthony should have been included as a least an unlockable character for god's sake. They could have add Sammy and done a best of both worlds. But it's all about Eddie. surprised that don't use the actual vocal track for David Lee Roth. Lame Eddie Very Lame.

Better bass player? Did you miss where Wolf says he's a better drummer than stringer?

I remember seeing these guys live so many times in the 80's and 90's and it always seemed like these guys were really tight like best friends and really happy to be paying together. What happened?
I mean, bands like Fleetwood Mac were all fucking each other's wives and girlfriends and they've managed to let go of the past and just play together as friends again. What are these guys so pissed off about? Because Sammy sells tequila? Because Mike plays bass with Sammy sometimes? How did this level of hatred show up from guys that used to be buddies? Trying to pretend these guys never existed in the band?
I'm telling you, Eddie's a psycho.

Of course, only those in VH know the real story. But it seems to me that EVH and AVH must be pretty hard to get along with! Both of them have egos the size of planets, and both continually slag off on former bandmates.
Look at the past - even when DLR left, he didn't constantly talk shit about his old bandmates, but Ed and Alex could barely get through an interview without making some negative comment about DLR! And then the whole thing with Mikey - you don't hear Mikey talking shit about Ed or Alex, but they sure have provoked him!
Bottom line, Ed and Alex are a couple of assholes! I still think DLR said it best: "Edward Van Halen without a guitar in his hand is a pretty pathetic human being."

Mike went & played with Sam on the side, insecure ED said "that's it, you're done" & made up sh*t that he drank too much(hypocrite), and only wanted to sell his hot sauce at shows....
leaving mike out of the band, airbrushing him off of W&C 1st album cover, and now scrubbing him from VH's past is just petty BS...From a fan's stand point, mike is a stand up guy. I believe when I read he never did those brothers VH wrong. EVH has in turn really just destroyed his fan loyalty as a man. This is a guy that was a rock God 20 years ago, seemed like Mr. Happy, he could do no wrong. He's done everything possible to ruin that "love affair" with the fans/media.
Wolf may be a technically good bass player, but he was SO over his head playing with a major act. He was a shy uncomfortable 16 yr old on stage, like most 16 year old would be. Terrible performer. That's not dissing him. If he's that good a musician, EVH should let him go be with 18 year olds, not playing with a bunch of washed up 55yr olds.
THe DLR era is all that is needed on this game though. you can't guitar hero to "dreams", "love walks in", "why can't this be love", "your love is driving me crazy", "Love aint for keepin'", "Love hangover", "Love..."...you get the picture. Maybe when they release "Synth Pop Hero" the Sam era will be represented.

How can you say you can't include songs like; Poundcake, Runaround, Top of the world and songs off of Balance.
Of course, with Michael Anthony in the game too!!!!!!!! Maybe Ed and Wolfgang should join his ex-wife/mom in loosing weight; Wolfgang loosing fat like his mom and Ed loosing weight from his big head!!!!!
What ever happened between these guys, can it really be worse then what ever went down between them and DLR??? You are an amazing guitar player Ed but an asshole for a human being!!! I don't know what went down between VH and Sammy/Mike but I do know that I gave up childish, school fights when I finished school.
Have a super group with everyone (minus Wolfgang because he was never VH)!!!!!

top of the world! eech! Pop rubbish. "standing on top of the world". WEEEE....my balls shrivel when I hear that one. That's musical evidence of listening to a once barnstorming powerhouse eruding to a puddle, a band that has been punched hard in the gut, musically brought to their knees, the musical equivilent to hooty & the blowfish, Nightranger, GAFFRIA.
That song is a musical cautionary tale of what will happen if you go soft, lose all of your edge, just completely go pop. Balless, souless pop. I hear that song & DREAMS & I'm just glad no one one hurt in the studio prancing too hard. That is not what my guitar hero's play.

I ask that you raise your standards! (I kid)...I don't HATE Sammy, I don't. I like a good portion of F.U.C.K, some tunes on ou812, and when 5150 came out I was all over it, but it just hasn't stood the test of time in my book. Even a song like Summer Nights that I loved in the day, comes off sort of sappy & limp now. the electronic drums, the synths, the fluff sentiments.
DLR was not a lyrical genius, no. Cars, girls, partying, circle jerks, and lawn care. But they weren't SAPPY. They didn't suck the life out of a song. I can't get around listening to a song that has, say "radio Gaga", or "I can't drive 55" or "that's what DREAMS are made, we'll get higher & higher". Its beyond hoakie. Roth kept it simple, maybe even a little clever at times, but I agree, nothing that I'm relating to & saying "wow, by his lyrics, I can relate to him"...well, I can actually, I like to party!...I think Running with Devil is a borderline dumb lyric. I'll give you that.
we can agree to disagree. But a product like Guitar Hero, Give me DOA, Somebody get me a Dr, Mean Streets, Hear about it later, Romeo Delight, I'm the One, Hang em high etc. The list goes on. Forget Roth & Hagar, it was EVH at his finest. They were a band that took over a town they came to. Mini Led Zep. Not in the next era, no way.
You know what, had Roth stayed in VH, they were probably headed where Sam took them. 1984 had glimpses of the future, Jump, my least favorite "i'll wait" (both of which they PIPE in the keyboard in concert now, lame), even Hot for Teacher. It was well on the way to going more commercial.
So I would have jumped ship most like w/Roth as well at some point. They had the perfect amount of time together, 6 albums, done. thank you. Really, that's all most great bands have in them, with exceptions...then Right now "HEY, it comes tomorrow"

oh, Laggerlugger, I didn't anwser your question, you asked that Sam is wimpy cuz he sang ballads, & can write?...well, that would be 2 of many reasons. No, he's not a wimpy man, I know he boxed, all that, I'm talking music....yes, very, very wimpy. Let me sight a 1,001 examples.
1. ballads - I like a good ballad, when written well. But 80's power ballads, yeah, 99.9 cheesy cotton candy fluff. And Sam was leading the charge. From his solo days to VH. Dreams, Love walks in, how do I know when its love??...these rate right next to Home sweet Home, Heaven by Warrant, you name it. Reo Speedwagon. yes, beyond wimpy. If that isn't, then I ask you Sir Laggerlugger, what is?
2. Lyrics - Sam is THE worst lyricist in rock ever, at least for a major act. Paul Stanley comes close, with his goofy rhymes, but he stayed away(as far as I know) from the butt pukering cheese love lyrics in his power ballads. Dreams, nuff said "so baby dry your eyes, save all the tears you cried, cuuuuz that's what dreams(pause) are made of"...I'm welling up. I want to realize all my dreams now! Cuz I HAVE saved all my tears! aaahh!....though Stanley's "she's a dancer, a romancer, I'm a capricorn & she's a cancer, you're good lookin & looking like you should be good". That's pretty bad, close 2nd.
3. the Good Time act - Zero edge, he & EVH cracking gay jokes & swinging each other around on stage, embarrassingly fluffy, my penis turtles when witnessing such flagrant acts against real rock. I thought they'd curl up nude on the stage while MA covered them in a blanket.
4. The ronald mcdonald outfit. beyond wimpy. Maybe worse than the hairmetal bands' white leather outfits & little cowboy booties.
5. Sam's attempt at rockin', solo style - NOTHING rockin' about Sammy Pre VH, ZERO. If he Rocks, then so does NightRanger, LoverBoy, and Rick Springfield(who covers "I've done everything for you)....I can't drive 55, god awful, lyrically just abysmal. There's only one way to rock & that's not IT! again, in both cases with the real cheesy crap lyrics that rival .38 Specials' "Rockin' into the Night". These songs, along with "your love is driving me crazy" tried to destroy rock as we know it.
Case closed Jury. So with that, I made my case for NO SAMMY in the VH Guitar Hero...do you try to figure out EVH Roth era or Sammy era licks? EXACTLY! again, I rest my case.

This Guitar Hero company is making a deal woth the devil, Eddie Van Halen, this will flop because most GH players are young and they sure were the ones that made Eddie rich during the Hagar years, and only know Hagar as the lead singer of VH. So just like the kids that aren't buying this game I'm not either, i'll stick to the Aerosmith version. And until they put out the Van Hagar stuff with the Roth stuff, I will not buy it.

don't worry, they'll be a "Synth Pop Hero" out soon, it will have all your favorite Sammy songs to kick your leg warmer covered legs to. It will have Feel so good(so nice!), right now, dreams, why can't this be love, how do I know when its love, love walks in, your love is driving me crazy, and so on, so take comfort in that. It won't be long after that others with follow with all your favorites, don't stop believin, REO, Warrant, and your favorite, "The final Countdown", Europe at its best. that's your thing, right? You can rename yourself JoshtoSynthPop. But remember, when it comes to VH, there really is only ONE way to rock. Eddie finally figured it out. He got tired of playing Top of the World. Went back to playing something more meaty...its up to you Joshtosynthpop, plug your guitar in & play Everybody Wants some, or would you rather learning Best of Both Worlds, you can do that silly dance they do in the video.
Josh, you are way off on the marketing of Guitar Hero, kids are EATING up the old rock on the original. THey love Slowride, schools out etc. These little 10 year olds are being served up some rock again & they are licking it up. Its the last hope for this next generation to chose rock over rap. Rock is hanging on by a thread, and "UnChained" has a HELL of a better chance of winning over the kids, than "Top of the World"...you'd rather rock, or pop?...I was a kid once, & I chose grade A beef, not hot dogs.
You got your Stones, Zep, classic VH, AC/DC, or you have your Van hagar, Sammy, Nightranger, Billy Squier. you've already made your bed. Spread your word on your CF site!

you may very well be right that it was Ed's idea, but who cares, it was a trainwreck, who cares who was driving, it was messy. A total sellout. I can't even fathom an argument about DLR VH or VanHagar. Its like chosing Eric Clapton/Cream, or Eric Clapton 1986 w/Phil Collins...a watered down catastrophy. So rock light it offends the ears....Ok, It was Ed's fault, but we can agree, it SUUUUCKED hard in comparison to his legendary years.
You know when you're listening to great hard rock, you can feel it. Its got balls. Please, JoshtoSynthPops, VanHagar, go and listen to Sammy & VanHagar in private. But please, I beg of you, for the love of all things Rockin', Rock is near dead, spread the gospel of TRUE, hard rockin' rock n roll. If you take a 10 yr old & feed them VanHagar they are sure to stick with 50Cent. You 2 are cooked, goners, synthpopper, but please, keep it to a low roar. There are kids that need to learn what real rock is.
Please, won't you help?!!!! I write today to BAN all non rock, all things fluff, in an effort to help bring Rock back to the forefront. They really should have included Mike. Cherone's pushing it, but Mike and Sammy should be on there somewhere. No offense to Wolfgang, but it's going to turn off a lot of fans.
Activision and EA need to learn how to make fans happy. Announce games ounce leaked, add in full band that people remember(I only think of samy and Roth, not cheron) and keep a release date close to what people have thought, release new information about every day or every other day. and make a fucking AC/DC game(Rockband dont count because it was simpeler and you couldnt play as Angus, Malcom or Brianor Bon. I NEED Guitar hero AC/DC. they can leave out the multiple Bassists and dRumers, just give me the main ones. and you have to put Bon in there along with Brian.
