ARCH ENEMY: 'The Root Of All Evil' Coming This Fall - June 23, 2009
Acclaimed British producer Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, TESTAMENT, EXODUS) has finished mixing and mastering the new ARCH ENEMY record, "The Root Of All Evil", due on September 28 in Europe and October 6 in North America via Century Media Records. This special collection features re-recorded versions of songs from the first three ARCH ENEMY albums — "Black Earth" (1996), "Stigmata" (1998) and "Burning Bridges" (1999).

Commented guitarist Michael Amott: "This one took some time to get done, despite the fact that the actual songs were already written a good few years ago! The album was recorded at a few different locations locally here in Sweden — produced by ARCH ENEMY, with Daniel Erlandsson (drums) handling a lot of the engineering. It was then sent to Andy Sneap in England for the mixing/mastering and I simply can't stop listening to this since I got the final mixes!"

Amott continued: "We basically headed down to our rehearsal studio, got reacquainted with the tunes, picked out our favorites and proceeded to give a breath of new life to those early songs, with the idea to have the possibility to re-add them to the live set and follow up with some touring activity!

"I'm loving hearing these songs with a fresh new sound and performance. Everyone in the band did a killer job on it — especially Angela's [Gossow] vocal performance is astoundingly intense and brutal and it was also cool to hear Sharlee [D'Angelo] lay down some great bass tracks on the early songs! The production and mix is crushing and heavy as hell — it really makes these old songs shine. It sounds like a brand new thing!"

ARCH ENEMY will return to Australia in November for a phenomenal headlining tour. Direct support on the dates will come from New York death metal legends SUFFOCATION. Also appearing on the bill is WINDS OF PLAGUE.

Fan-filmed video footage of ARCH ENEMY performing the song "Dead Eyes See No Future" on May 23, 2009 at the Summer Nights Festival in Mining am Inn, Austria can be viewed below (courtesy of www.metal-underground.at.vu).

Cool, now I'm just waiting for the re-recorded early Van Halen classics with Gary Cherone on vocals.

They've re-released the early albums too, with live tracks featuring Liiva, so he's getting some noteriety, and hopefully some royalties again too.. :)

I haven't bought any Arch Enemy stuff in years but I'll get this. The earlier music is better but the vocals SUCK! Lately the music is kind of meh but her vocals are cool. So this is a nice combination.

Please, give me better production this time. Production on "Rise Of The Tyrant" was awful!
This also means that there will be much more "old" AE songs on future setlists!

Slayer didn't exactly invent the term though.

I didn't really care for the first few AE albums when they came out. When I heard Wages, I really liked it. I could tell it was a new vocalist, and thought "he" was a big improvement. Imagine my surprise when I saw "his" picture. :)

I wish more bands would go back and re do some of their more "classic" material.

HEAVEN AND HELL updating some Ozzy era SABBATH would be excellent as would ALICE COOPER 2009 with tracks like "School's Out" and "No More Mr. Nice Guy."

I'lll be sure to pick this up.

I love both old and new AE so will definitely pick this up... I think Wages of Sin and Stigmata are their two best releases.

Agreed... except I started with Burning Bridges. It's a good album but it doesn't stand the test of time like Wages through Doomsday.

I actually don't mind when bands do this, like Testament did with their first two albums. I don't like the fact that they're sort of re-writing history, but with a superior voice on the mic and solid production, I'll check this one out for sure.

Are you kidding me? Just because metal as we know it today may (or may not) derive from Black Sabbath, it is therefore cliche?!?

All genres of metal have become cliche at one point or another, but you can blame record companies for saturating the market with shit bands who simply copy, rather than evolve, a particular sound.

By your example, however, everything as we know it today is cliche.

Arch Enemy is - and has been since the very start - one of the best bands in extreme metal to see the face of this (black) earth whatsoever.
Now, when hearing the news about re-recording the 3 first albums with AG's vocals I find it a bit weird to say the least.
Is this really necessary?
It gives me the feel as for new acts using old songs in their material. We've all heard some hiphop-group with Bowie's "Let's Dance" in it.. etc etc etc..
So, once again: is this really necessary??
They claim that it's "for the new fans, to kinda get more aquainted with the old material" and so on.
Maybe this comment of mine was what quite a few expected - but I can not keep my mouth shut forever. This feels like .., well now it's the time to show the ass clowns out there that enough is enough.
Leave the old records in peace and strive for sthg new instead -. or maybe someone ran out of fresh ideas?
I could go on forever and I'm sure I'd get a lot of new enemies here - shit: could I care less?! I'm just barely voicing my opinion.. and looking forward to the release of "The root of all evil"...
All the be(a)st,
Johan
