JEFF SCOTT SOTO Pays Tribute To MICHAEL JACKSON - June 26, 2009
Legendary vocalist Jeff Scott Soto (TALISMAN, JOURNEY, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) has issued the following statement regarding the passing of pop music legend Michael Jackson, who died yesterday (Thursday, June 25) at age 50:

"Every day the world mourns over the loss of a loved one, a relative, even a pet...but it's not every day the whole world mourns over a single person like they were a loved one or blood relative.

"On Thurday, June 25, 2009, we lost an icon, a legend, a superstar named Michael Jackson.

"I don't think there is a man, woman or child over 5 years old in the world who doesn't know the name Michael Jackson. This in itself is an achievement that is rarely attainable anymore but it shows this man was known for better or worse (in my book, always better; the negative side of his life was always something I always chose to ignore as the MUSIC blanketed this) by EVERY person in the 21st century, and he will be remembered through his music and his legend.

"Of all my childhood memories, many of them included buying my first 45 single (yes, that would be a small 8" vinyl platter called a 'record'!) of the JACKSON 5's 'I Want You Back' to standing in front of a mirror at the ripe age of 5 with a spoon in my hand, pretending it was a microphone and singing at the top of my lungs to every word little Mike was belting out. When my brother Joey and I were about 7 and 8, we would draw crowds at the local boys club of NY as the song 'Rockin' Robin' would be blasted on a record player. Joey would pound on benches/tables as they were percussive instruments while I crooned along to the alto notes of Michael's version. They called us the 'TWEET TWEET BROTHERS'. if you know the song, you'd understand why :)

"Last night, I was witnessing the birth of a new supergroup, an amazing incarnation called CHICKENFOOT (featuring the eternally youthful Sammy Hagar, the baddest bass pounder Michael Anthony, the untouchable Joe Satriani and the mischievous Chad Smith) performing in London — an energetic and amazing evening — only to be flattened by the news of what was happening in Los Angeles simultaneously.... A night to remember indeed!

"Today and forever, I celebrate the music and the influence of Michael Jackson.

"Long live the King Of Pop, long live one of my few mentors of the mic.

"RIP, Michael!"

Farrah Fawcett died yesterday too. I think it kind of sucks that her death (very sad) is being overshadowed because Jackson was more popular.

It's kind of like at the Academy Awards when they show the compilation video of people whho died that year. When a famous person pops up the crowd goes wild, then when some lesser known actor or filmmaler goes by everyone stops clapping. No fucking respect. We're such a fucking celebrity-obsessed culture.

I said the same thing last. MJ is probably in Bahrain or visiting one of his brothers in Dubai, UAE right now. And will come out with it in a couple weeks when his album sales start to drop after rising due to his death. But really I think it is for real. And like Elvis some people are hopeful that it's not true. The cause was a drug overdose or drug induced it seems, based on the media coverage. So if we dig him up in 30 years will it just be his plastic face on a skeleton or will that decompose too? Any Coroner's out there?

Gotta agree with both cocaine cowboy and shattered.
Does seem so lame when people applaud some over the others.

You all condemn MJ but he was never convicted of molestation. Don't you guys ever thought people were after MJ's MONEY? He had sleepovers, big deal. He had Jesus Juice, woopee-doo. If you want to blame anyone, blame his parents, mainly his dad.

And OJ was never convicted either. Courts can be bought in this world which goes to show there is no justice really.

The thing is, no one would be defending the 45 yr old plumber down the street from having sleepovers with children, but because it's MJ of course, he's just innocent, because his father did this and that. Oh and look they do it in other cultures etc.. People feel just because they like his music, they have to defend him.

I don't KNOW for a fact whether he did or didn't molest anyone, but looking at a few things, like the fact that his kids were created by artificial insemination, seems kind of odd. His argument was that he loves children platonically and women sexually, hence the marriage to Lisa Marie and Debbie Rowe.
Why would he then have chosen to go the artificial insemination route then instead of actually having sex with his wife?
Seems a tad strange to me!

I am getting SO offended by all the jokes regarding Michael Jackson's death... he deeply touched me in ways only a catholic priest can understand.

...should go back to quebec. Cry me a fuckin river, his folks abused him, blah, blah, blah. No excuses when it comes to this kind of stuff.. He did shit to those kids, and everyone knows it. Everyone but you, apparently. If I had sleepovers at my house, with 8-9 year olds sleeping in my bed with me, etc, I'D BE LOCKED UP IN A MATTER OF SECONDS.

Yes, the guy was an amazing talent, a true pop icon, and he'll be missed sorely. But ya know what?? Any of us who have a clue have already been missing him for years, as he's been gone awhile already, having descended into madness quite some time ago.

Faced with 50 sold-out shows he had NO CHANCE of pulling off, he bowed out. He bit off more than he could chew, quite simply. Have you seen any recent footage of him? He can barely walk on his own, and you think he was gonna pull off those 50 shows? No Way, No How. Rather than face the debacle/disgrace/what-have-you of just cancelling, he took the Big Ride. This was merely the catalyst. He's hed reasons to disappear for years, and finally did it.

And I can tell you right now, I ain't the only one thinkin this way.

1) were the hell do you find an 8 " record ? i thought single came in the 7" variety !

2) i don't like the notion that one's achievements can blanket his transgressions. But on the other hand one's transgressions cannot overshadow one's talent.

MJ was a freak, as a person. In more ways than one, he was. As a performer however he was unique and way ahead of his time ! No denying !
