ALICE IN CHAINS: New Song Available Via iTunes, Amazon
- June 30, 2009
|
|
A new ALICE IN CHAINS track entitled "A Looking In View" is now available for purchase via iTunes and Amazon. Two short teasers for the song's accompaying video clip can be viewed below. Meanwhile, sources tell The Pulse of Radio that an official radio single called "Check My Brain" will head to rock stations in mid-August. ALICE IN CHAINS' first collection of all-new studio material in 14 years, "Black Gives Way To Blue", is set for release on September 29 through EMI Music's Virgin Records label. The disc will feature the recording debut with the group of singer William DuVall, who first got behind the mic for the band's 2006 reunion tour after original vocalist Layne Staley died in 2002. The album title first appeared on Amazon.com without any prior announcement from the band, who made their signing with Virgin official a couple of weeks ago through a press release that did not reveal a title or release date. Guitarist Jerry Cantrell recently told The Pulse of Radio that ALICE IN CHAINS was "really proud" of the new record, adding, "Regardless of how it does, it's a win already for us, 'cause we really dig it and we stand behind it, and each other." ALICE IN CHAINS will play a small, intimate gig at London, England's Scala on August 4 — two days after playing the second stage at the METALLICA-headlined inaugural Sonisphere festival, set to take place on August 1-2 at the legendary Knebworth Park, United Kingdom. ALICE IN CHAINS will next perform on July 18 at Comerica Park in Detroit with KID ROCK. The group has yet to air any of the new material live.

7 minutes and I loved every second. The riff certainly sounds like trademark Alice. And after all the controversy about the band getting a new singer, almost all of the vocals on the track sound like they are coming from Jerry Cantrell. A great track, and hopefully a sign of what the album will be like.

An even further step ahead from Jerry Cantrell in downtuned/groovy/dark metal medium... Sounds more like AIC than his own solo stuff but interestingly, his vocals seem dominant although Duvall has more partitions, it seems like Duvall is backing Cantrell's vocals and not the other way around. But, anyway... The track is superbly written, the riffs are crushing and the melodies are typical AIC.
I guess this is the track that magazine (or newspaper) was talking about as "the 7 minutes long Sabbathy epic". Looking forward to the new album now - I guess it'll be a mixture of their all influences.

AIC is in capable hands. I'm not sure how I would like an entire AIC song with DuVall's vocals "solo", but he blends in well with Jerry. I wasn't crazy about his vocals near the end ( he sounds a bit whiney), but I'm an AIC purist so I deserve to nitpick. Instruments are spot on. Still, in some small way I wish they'd rename the band, but it's a selling point and I can understand that in this day and age of shitty record sales.

It's gonna take a little getting used to Duvall being in there instead of Staley . . . mostly because it's so fucking EXACTLY ALICE IN CHAINS that it feels like that missing element would naturally be there . . .
Make no mistake though . . . this is a solid song. Great work. Welcome to the fold Mr. Duvall . . . you deserve to be there, no question about that.

I could type all damn day about how awesome this song is. The boys made a solid pick with William. He and Jerry harmonize with ease and every aspect of this song is just amazing. William is even able to capture that signature Alice In Chains feel vocally.
Welcome back boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have NEVER seen so much postive response to new music on this site, EVER. Well, the song is that damn good. And it IS AIC. William DuVall may just be the second coming of Brian Johnson or Bruce Dickinson. Now I know damn well William can't vocally hold a candle to Bruce so shut up. My point is that that William is as good a fit, and this may just be AIC's biggest album to date.

...all the "no layne = no aic" comments of the past few years.
This rules.
And, check out the math: Layne passed 7 years after the last Alice In Chains album.
The new incarnation of Alice In Chains puts out their album 7 years after that.
A good, respectful repose. And if this is even a hint, this album is going to rule so hard.

A good song with the best first half of any AIC song I know, but the final part becomes too light and kind of lazy in my opinion. I would rate this song 7.5.
