ANTHRAX Guitarist: 'Our New Singer Sounds Like He's Been With Us Forever' - June 30, 2009

ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian has posted the latest installment of his regular column on SuicideGirls.com called "Scott Ian's Food Coma" where he writes about his food and travel experiences. An excerpt from the column follows below.

"I've been in Europe since May 31, all over the place. I spent the first two weeks doing promotion for the new ANTHRAX record 'Worship Music' (coming in October through Megaforce/RED/Sony... PLUG). Basically, traveling from city to city doing interviews and photo shoots. 12 hours a day, sometimes 14-16 hour days.

"London, Paris, Madrid, Milan, Helsinki, Stockholm and Oslo. It was a brutal schedule but the reaction to the new songs has been amazing!!!! I have an iPod with the new mixes on it and the writers get to hear them right before they sit down to talk to me. This is the way it's done in the world of stealing music, my friends. No more advance CDs.

"The instant reactions are great. It really makes me excited for all of you to hear it!!! It really feels like the press/media is hearing the songs the same way I hear them. They can hear all the energy and time and blood and sweat and hard work that we put into this record. The two years we spent writing and then the six months we spent recording were some of the toughest and best times I have ever had in ANTHRAX and listening back to the finished songs now I can say it was well worth it.

"This new record is the best representation of our career that I could ever imagine and our new singer, Dan Nelson, sounds like he's been with us forever. We're playing the fuck out of these songs and to quote my buddy Patton Oswalt, 'Playing them like we're going to jail tomorrow.'"

	Nelson...sounds,looks and acts nothing like Anselmo. Growing a goat doesn't mean jack shit except that you've grown a goat. Musically speaking this sounds nothing like anything you could find in the Pantera catalog( literally zero resemblance ). Obviously you are unfamiliar with Anthrax and Pantera.....the comment was "bring back old school thrash"...interesting since Anthrax hasn't produced anything resembling "old school thrash" in about 20 years.

	More power to Anthrax for getting out early to promote the record. Promotion is a necessary evil to make a living as a recording artist and the fact they jumped on it so soon to build anticipation for studio versions of their live stuff is exactly what bands need to be doing. Also, the lead time magazines may need to get a featured article put together to come out around the time the record comes out can also be rather lengthy. Any band wanting to do this for a living is in show business. There's a reason it's called show business and not "show show" ;-)

	...he's got some of the cool characteristics of Joey and John. Song sounds cool, too. Interested to check this out. Fan-filmed stuff usually sounds like ass, but this one os good enough to pick up the vibe. Only Anselmo-ism I see is visual, and nothing major. Those are moves used by shitloads of singers, and Phil A. doesn't carry a patent on putting your foot on the monitor. Oh, and Devastat0r, I hear your Mom calling you down the stairs to your basement bedroom, your French bread mini-pizzas are ready. Don't forget to take your meds within 30 minutes of your meal, with a glass of milk if possible.

	Well this got be a bit excited to hear the new stuff. I was worried is was goin to be watered down way to much and with so much time and problems with all the shit they have to dealt with. If the rest of the new CD is like this then i will be happy.

On a more positive note the new Anthrax sounds fucking killer and to Spygel - Fight Em Till You Can't is awesome. Aggressive, brutal, yet in typical Anthrax style, comes with melody. 	Thrashy, but not impressed with this guy still. There is a reason why Dan, Joey, and John are not in Anthrax anymore. Scott and Charlie are control dicks. I use to admire this band as one of the big 4 back in the day, and even through the 90's as I grew to like Bush, but now cant stand those two guys. I'll steal this when it comes out.
