TARJA TURUNEN At Italy's GODS OF METAL; Photos, Video Footage Available - July 1, 2009
Fan-filmed video footage of former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen performing the song "Sing For Me" at this year's Gods Of Metal festival on June 28, 2009 in Monza, Italy can be viewed below.

Twenty high-quality photos of Tarja's concert are available on Musica Metal.

Tarja's setlist for the show was as follows:

01. Enough
02. My Little Phoenix
03. Wishmaster
04. Ciàran's Well
05. Minor Heaven
06. Lost Northern Star
07. I Walk Alone
08. Nemo
09. Poison (ALICE COOPER cover)
10. Sing For Me
11. Over The Hills And Far Away
12. Die Alive

Tarja Turunen's band for her Summer Storm 2009 Tour consists of the following musicians:

* Tarja Turunen - Vocals
* Mike Terrana (MASTERPLAN, SAVAGE CIRCUS, ex-RAGE, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) - Drums
* Maria Ilmoniemi - Keyboards
* Doug Wimbish (LIVING COLOUR, MADONNA, JEFF BECK, THE ROLLING STONES) - Bass
* Kiko Loureiro (ANGRA) - Guitar
* Max Lilja (HEVEIN, ex-APOCALYPTICA) - Cello

According to a posting on Tarja's web site, "all the shows on Summer Storm 2009 Tour were declared 'camera-friendly,' which means that you are welcome to bring your photo camera and take as many pictures as you wish. This is with the exception of gigs in festivals, where you will have to ask to the organization of the festival about their camera policy for we can not exceed the regulations established by them."

Tarja Turunen has set "What Lies Beneath" as the working title of her new solo CD, tentatively due before the end of the year. She says, "With [2007's] 'My Winter Storm', I chose the name of the album in the early stages and that helped me to create the concept for the album. With the new album, I decided to do it the same way, so I searched for an inspiring title and all the songs are one way or another related to it."

1: Was she lip syncing? In all her days of NW shes never been that on-key from start-finish ,not to mention her accent most ALWAYS comes through when she sings and its noticeably absent here.

2: Is this some of the "heavier" material that her new disc is going to contain? I've heard "heavier" stuff from Evanescence.

3: How on earth did she book a gig @ "Gods of metal" anyway ?

4: Am I the only one who thinks she should spend less time on looking "stunning & enchanting" on the album/sinlge covers & put some effort into her song writing ?

1- No, and sorry but saying that she was always off-key in NW is utter bullshit. I've seen her live with NW; she was not the Goddess that her fans claim her to be, sure, but still she was very good and enjoyable. And most of the time hitting the right notes, guess what.
2-This is obviously a ballad, duh.
3- Mmmh maybe because there are people who actually like her music? Maybe because even those who don't particulary like her solo career (like me) appreciate her as a performer and her band as a great bunch of musicians? Some of my friends were there, and they told me that she was wonderfully received by the crowd.
4- I agree about the songwriting, and guess what, she is doing it.

Now I have a question for you, and for all the pathetic bashers here on blabbermouth: do you really think that bashing her on every single news will make Tuomas Holopainen notice you and ask you on a date? Do you think taht he actually gives a damn about your stupid way of demonstrating loyality?

At least she can sing on tune live, what can't be said about Annette Olson. I saw Nightwish this weekend at Graspop and I saw a great band, but weak singer. She was the worst singer of the whole festival! The female singers of The Gathering, Delain and Epica were all much better!

It was awful, the crowd got bored and disinterested.
It's a shame for once a fantastic band...

@ tluesi: I was not bashing her and to suggest that I/anyone else critices her out of loyalty to Tuomas is prob one of the dumbest logical ways of thinking i've ever come across....If this article was about NW/Anette then you'd see what bashing looked like.

@metalrockx: Frm vids i've seen they/she usually gets a great response form he crowd hence why they still manage to sell-out shows/cds. But I wasn't there so I couldn't tell what her voice was like/crowd response was but it's clearly your opinion & i'd prob get a diff response form someone else..

Also its not impossible for Ms. Tarunen to lip during her shows since she has done it before & she also uses back-tracks while on tour which gives the illusion that she hits all the right notes.

Just search her singing "Wish I had an Angel" or *any song that requires her to sing in chest voice* with NW and you'll see how she hides behind her classical lisp;)
kisses =*

oh, dearie. you don't have to be necessarily derogatory to bash someone, there are also much more subtle ways to do it. You're just a bit more refined than average Tarjaholics who bash NW and Anette, but the substance is the same. An awful lot of people who criticize her constantly and hysterically (which is VERY different than giving occasional constructive criticism or simply saying "I don't like it") do it out of their Tuomas-obsession. Just as Tarjaholics.
And no matter how self-righteous you try to sound, everything from your posts confirms that you're no different from the average Tuomas-wannabe-groupie.

Oh, and back-tracks of vocals are a trademark of Nightwish concert, BOTH with Anette and Tarja. That's indeed a shame, I agree.

@ Ever Dream

1: No. And she's usually on-key. I have seen her live, she got a very good control of her voice actually. In fact I don't often notice her accent while singing, as I do when she speaks.

2: As someone pointed, this is a ballad. Where did you get the idea this is her "heavy" material? I'm sorry, such a deliberately bashing comment just makes your opinion look biased.

3: Maybe because... let me think... people like her, perhaps? Obviously she's got a strong fanbase who support her.

4: Perhaps. I'd say she makes less effort nowadays to look "stunning & enchanting" as you put it, that she did when she was in NW. And so far, what she's written by herself has been quite good.

You'll have to forgive tluesi for thinking you're a Tuomas fan, it's just that your user name gives that impression.

I see---Mind you that could be the back-tracks giving the illusion that shes on-key from start til end..or maybe she has improved & if so I applaud her;)

So far i've only heard ballads *obv her comfort zone* from her new disc so shes prob re-thinking the whole "heavier riffs" approach----or i'm just impatient,lol...

I see using one his song-titles would give indication that i'm prob a "groupie",lol..I admit, I admire him & his talent & yes I am a fan of him & his band *and even a little of Ms. Tarunen--& I do respect her though---making the most of a genre she initially had no interest in--* but I will give criticism when necessary..

Also theres a diff between backing-vocals & back-tracks-----Anette uses backing-vocals, obv during the songs that DO require them *Amaranth for example* & the songs that have a "choir/operatic nature" to them *Poet & the Pendulum, The Siren, Dark Chest of wonders, Ghost love score etc*.
Tarja uses back-tracks which is basically having your voice *usually the actual cd track* playing in the background--which in turn will give the effect that shes always on key.

first of all, the song linked above is from My winter Storm, so no, it's no new material.
Givin' that and the fact that you say you've never listened to heavier and faster songs from her is a clear indication that you've never bothered to listen to her. This is not a problem of course, I'm not a fan of her solo stuff myself; but even with my superficial knowledge, I know that there are some heavier songs than that, like Enough or Minor heaven or that song that Peter Tägtgren remixed.

But the problem is: now, even with your limited knowledge of her work, you're ohhhh so sure that she ALWAYS uses backing tracks live. How come? Either you've spent nights watching her videos on youtube (but then you would have known that Sing For Me is an "old" song, and that there are heavier tracks...so I'm doubting it) or you're just being biased. Since criticizing needs deeper knowledge while bashing doesn't require it (on the contrary, the more ignorant you are the better you will bash), I think I'll go with that second hypotesis.

It's quite easy to detect backing tracks, I can assure you that you're not the only one blessed with this special "gift", lol. I've recently heard Tarja singing "She is my sin" in South America, and I heard it. I didn't like it. At all. I've also listened to Anette using it on "Come cover me" during their North american tour last September. Guess what, I didn't like it either. But in most videos I've watched neither of them were using it (otherwise we wouldn't hear so much compressed, false notes on Tarja or plain off-keys notes and shrieking high register on Anette)

And no, it's not your user name which gives you the "groupie" vibe. (I actually have the utmost respect for that username__one of the most emotional love song ever written)
It's the fact that you said she always uses lip-sync and that that is the ONLY reason why she sound on key live (LOL!), that she cares more about her appearance than her voice, or that it's impossible that she actually could be booked for Gods of metal.
What is the difference between saying these things and saying that Anette can't sing and Nightwish are poppy now? I'll tell you, NO difference. Both are glaring exemples of blind bashing, not well-thought criticism.
You've simply done what so many fans are doing since 2005: you take a personal preference (And i prefer NW too, mind you) like you were chosing sides in a war and you attack the other side like it was the Evilz Incarnate.
This is my first and last statement on this matter, so feel free to continue this pathetic circus between Tarjatards AND Tuomastards. goodbye and take care.

oh, and before you point it out, neither "She is my sin" nor "Come cover me" back tracks were the originals from Wishmaster: She is my sin was pre-recorded by Tarja in a higher register, while Come cover me had only Anette's vocals in it, save the chorus.
