KILLSWITCH ENGAGE: New Album On Track To Sell 50K-55K First Week
- July 2, 2009
|
|
According to Hits Daily Double, the companion web site of music industry tip sheet HITS, the new, self-titled album from Massachusetts metallers KILLSWITCH ENGAGE is on track to sell between 50,000 and 55,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's last CD, "As Daylight Dies", opened with just under 60,000 units to debut at position No. 32 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was the follow up to 2004's Grammy-nominated album "The End of Heartache", which was certified gold by the RIAA ( Recording Industry Association of America) for shipments in excess of 500,000 copies. KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's self-titled fourth album was released on June 30 via Roadrunner Records. The CD was produced by Brendan O'Brien ( AC/DC, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE) and co-produced by guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz. KILLSWITCH ENGAGE will team up with IN FLAMES for a co-headlining tour of Canada in Sepember. Support on the trek will come from PROTEST THE HERO and BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME. KILLSWITCH ENGAGE will spend the summer touring as a main-stage attraction on the second annual Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival.

I used to be a huge Killswitch fan, but after 3 albums you'd think the band would evolve a little. I listened to the entire new cd, and wasn't really impressed by anything short of a few parts in a couple of songs.
I wish bands would learn to progress a little.
Oh well, Still pumped for new BTBAM!!

this album is great for them. not excellent though. the forgotten is a really good song. wish they would utilize different ways of making songs. as far as whats on the album. not everything has to have the same kind of intro of drums, guitar fade in, slow clean sound, or punch driven guitar riff. use ambience or something. dunno. album sounds great. but i totally agree. very little progression with them for a band that switch between a few time signatures.

New album is pretty weak.
While I still enjoy this band live. I did not enjoy thier last 2 releases. Alive or Just Breathing, and The End of Heartache, is all I look forward to hearing from them at Mayhem.
Also after hearing most of the new JFAC, and then picking up this new Killswitch cd. It just seemed so slow and mainstream, that I could barley get all the way though it.

Killswitch Engage is a prime example as to exactly what is wrong with modern metal. Stale, boring, follows the exact same pattern over and over again... no originality. I tried, and tried, and tried to get into this band several times, but always with the same result. BORED OUT OF MY MIND. Same pattern, same flow, same beat, same ANGRY SCREAMING/GROWLING blending into soft mellow melodic "sensitive" vocals. I've had enough of this band. Sad, too because they're really talented, just seem to be trying to cash in because they know they have a fanbase who eats this up. They need to step it up, they need to get out of the holding pattern. First few albums and "Holy Diver" are pretty good, they need to go more into that direction. I know these guys are capable of putting out a solid, original release that's not just a rehash of everything they've been doing lately. Will they? Time will tell.
Long story short... getting sick of the "I'm angry yet sensitive" crap. And annoyed at my one friend who got offended and said "why would you say that about Killswitch? I don't understand! They're great!"
And the fact that this sold more than the new Dream Theater really bothers me. But then, Static-X sells about this many, too, so that really actually bothers me a bit more that that many people are into Static... another prime example of what is wrong with metal these days, well at least in my opinion.
People who like them, that's fine... you have your opinion, I have mine. I just don't understand why people think doing the same thing over and over and over and over again is so great!

I think it is fair to call Alive Or Just Breathing a masterpiece but last few albums just bore me.

it took me some listens but I think wrath is top-notch and a perfect follow-up to sacrament. I understand killswitch's new album, and I think it's good, but not nearly as good as wrath. it's just "ok".

better than wrath, what are you listening too?? While Wrath is no Ashes of the Wake, it is still heavy, different, and somewhat technical.
This new Killswitch is generic enough to be on the radio, which it probably is.

Actually, Static-X's latest album only sold 19k in its opening week. Their sales have been declining with each album they put out. It still debuted at No.16 though.
And Wrath is far superior to this new KSE record but then I've always liked LOG. Never could get into KSE.

The other ones were just metalcore, which gets old in a fucking hurry. I'd be willing to bet that the stuff off the 2 before this was on the radio and ill bet that lots of this stuff is gonna be on the radio. I don't really find it surprising that they sell lots of albums because the system that we have right now is ass backwards. Accessability is what drives album sales not skill, talent, or quality.

I'm amazed people are actually still into these guys and their tired "solos aren't cool so we'll do only one in a tongue in cheek manner" and their radio friendly clean emo choruses. This heavy/soft formula has long overstayed it's welcome. Not that I ever welcomed it.

Why does everyone these days have to be so fuckin picky about their music and metal?? "ooo these guys are on the radio now i cant listen to them!!" "oh ive heard this shit so many times" obviously you dont know what you're talkin about...this new album is different from the last and i can honestly say that it's better than the last one..not as good at End of Heartache but better than As daylight Dies...It seems the music has matured alot..i wish it was a bit longer but whatever..
And I still don't get what people are talking how Alive or Just Breathing is a mastperpiece..Jesse's vocals suck..not my style, his screams are ungodly and he reminds me of a gremlin..the production is shit too..

Really? I was at a Killswitch show once (free ticket), left halfway through. Sounded like one long, boring song. Almost every one of their songs has the same tempo & rhythm. It all seems to blend together from what I'm hearing.

General_Tyrre - most people just want something that can translate well into a cringe-inducing ringtone they can sing along to. Sad, but pretty accurate with most people these days.
blackfarted - Yep, completely agree... sick of soft/heavy "i'm angry yet sensitive" growling into emo choruses crap. My friend was all like "I don't understand where you get that". He's a big Killswitch fan, but I'm guessing if he doesn't get that, he probably only owns the albums to look at or use as coasters.
