DOWN Meets Italian 'Heavy Metal Monk'; Video Available - July 2, 2009
Friar Cesare Bonizzi, the 62-year-old Italian self-described "preacher-singer" who has released a couple of albums with his heavy metal band FRATELLO METALLO (Metal Brother), joined DOWN on stage during the New Orleans group's June 28, 2009 performance at the Gods Of Metal festival in Monza, Italy. According to the Italian news blog Musica Metal, "While announcing the last song of their show, [DOWN] frontman Phil Anselmo spotted at the barriers Frate Cesare, an actual monk with a long white beard, who plays in a metal band in Italy shouting lyrics about alcohol, sex, tobacco and 'metal life' in general. Anselmo was amazed by the sight and requested him to get onstage, hugged him, and kept saying it was unreal — then made a wanking off sign behind [Bonizzi's] back, causing a huge laughter in the audience."

Video footage of Bonizzi's onstage appearance during DOWN's concert can be viewed below.

Photos of DOWN's concert at the festival are available at Musica Metal.

DOWN's setlist was as follows:

01. Hail The Leaf
02. The Path
03. Lysergik Funeral Procession
04. Lifer
05. New Orleans Is A Dying Whore
06. Losing All
07. N.O.D.
08. Eyes Of The South
09. Stone The Crow
10. Bury Me In Smoke

1. America needs more men like this.

2. If Kirk Windstein is the king of beard in metal, then this guy is the emperor.

Phil hugs this man and then embarrasses him behind his back (wanking gesture). No wonder Vinnie Paul doesn't want to have anything to do with this maggot. Proves yet again that the wrong guy in Pantera was killed.

Your a total piece of shit to even say what you did. You talking about Phil having no class and then you say WHAT YOU DID!!!!
Your not a fan of Pantera or Down. So why do you comment.
People like you start shit and then some sick fuck like Nathan Gale sees it and agrees. I bet you would n't hane the balls to say anything to Phils face. If you do, buy Downs VIP package and say what you think. Oh thats right you'll be to busy asking for his autograph. Why don't you go back to boring life and do the world a favor and fuck off.

I am a big pantera/down/ phil anselmo fan, but if he really was trying to show the guy up after hugging him/acting nice to his face then lets just say his actions speak for themselves & he's showing no one but HIMSELF up!! If you don't like someone say it to their face or don't invite them on! I've seen some of these metal band members up close & believe me I'm starting to think some of them are SO cut off from the real world & believe their own hype! Its usually the real legends/talents that don't need to stoop low....
