JUDAS PRIEST, WHITESNAKE Kick Off Tour In Missouri; Video Available - July 2, 2009
JUDAS PRIEST and WHITESNAKE kicked off their joint summer tour last night (Wednesday, July 1) at The Family Arena in St Charles, Missouri.

A BLABBERMOUTH.NET visitor who goes by the name "KISSOFF 2004" has submitted the following report:

"The Metal Gods are just that. A fact that was reinforced in spades last night. Huge response from the crowd.

"The 'British Steel' songs were tight and sounded perfect. [Rob] Halford [vocals] was in amazing form all night, hitting the expected high notes in 'Victim of Changes' and 'The Ripper', and stalking the stage throughout the show.

"As much as I loved last year's set and performance, I think last night's show was better. 'Steeler', in particular, was just a beast live, and my personal highlight. Lasers, smoke, and a loud, clear mix added to the spectacle. Do not miss this show!

"WHITESNAKE were warmly received, although 'Is This Love' was met with indifference from the crowd who were clearly there to see PRIEST. 'Slow an' Easy' and 'Still of the Night' had the biggest reception. I could have done without the (what seemed like) 10-minute guitar duel and the drum solo. Still, for fans of the band, they delivered what you would expect from the veteran act."

WHITESNAKE setlist:

01. Bad Boys
02. Fool For Your Lovin'
03. Love Ain't No Stranger
04. Slow An' Easy
05. Lay Down Your Love
*Guitar spotlight with Reb Beach and Doug Aldrich trading off solos*
06. Cryin' In The Rain (with extended Drum solo in the middle)
07. Is This Love
08. Give Me All Your Love
09. Here I Go Again
10. Still Of The Night

JUDAS PRIEST setlist:

01. Rapid Fire
02. Metal Gods
03. Breaking The Law
04. Grinder
05. United
06. You Don't Have To Be Old To Be Wise
07. Living After Midnight
08. The Rage
09. Steeler
10. The Ripper
11. Prophecy
12. Rock Hard Ride Free
13. Victim Of Changes

Encore:

14. Freewheel Burning
15. Diamonds And Rust
16. You've Got Another Thing Comin'

...that is EXACTLY what I said last night after their set.

Perhaps an even more glaring omission is "Slide It In" which is something of a rock radio staple in St. Louis.

I saw Whitesnake last Friday and then JP on Monday night and JP was way better.....I really like the Snake but the Metal God is in true form and sound way better.....my 2 cents. For anyone on the fence about seeing this show.....you wont be disappointed.

They should have brought ANNIHILATOR back to the USA. I think those two bands toured a few times together in Europe.

Wow really pissed off that Whitesnake only included one song off the new album. I guess he realizes most people here in the U.S. are only interested in the hits, which is really a shame and shows how for the most part we have almost no taste in music anymore.

Nothing I hate worse at a concert when some drunk asshole is yelling "play some hits!!!' every time a band plays a lesser-known song.

Slide it in would definitely work also. I am also looking forward to hearing "Steeler" live. That has to be one of their more overlooked/underrated songs that to me is tailor made to be played live but never was as far as I know after the original British Steel tour. Some people were slagging this pairing at the time it was announced but to me if Whitesnake plays the right set it makes sense and is a show I can look forward to. But then again, my first exposure to Priest wasn't the Painkiller album.

That Rob is standing erect for most of the Show. The past two tours the mother fucker was bent over most of the time. Knowing his inclinations didn't help matters any.

He quit smoking just over a year a go and it sounds like his voice has really benefited from it. I saw them last year and thought they were great. But, I'm even more psyched for this set. Steeler and The Rage are songs I've always wanted to hear live and never have.

How crowded was it in St Louis??? Im just curious because I used to live there and the metal scene there is shit. I wonder if the seats were even half full.

I remember about 3 or 4 ozzfests in st. louis, and the lawn was barley half full every year.

This is simply a guess, but if there were 7,400 tickets available for the show, I'd say the attendance was close to 5,000. The seats in the back of the arena were not full and the upper level on each side was mostly vacant. Hard to give a definitive number ... but it was way more than half full. Good crowd, and very vocal.

Lame Hits Tour, same songs all tours, while they have non-radio play songs too---the only negative about radio, also playing the same songs... BTW, that JP song is a bonus track from Turbo LP, which clearly didn't fit good enough on that synth-album, but this track could easily be my fav JP song everrrrrr!

There's nothing new they can add to Got Another Thing & other songs live in all tours, why keep playing it?????? Are these bands lazy or clueless?
