MALEVOLENT CREATION Guitarist Allegedly Involved In Real-Life Shootout
- July 4, 2009
|
|
Guitarist Phil Fasciana of long-running Florida death metallers MALEVOLENT CREATION was reportedly involved in a bizarre shootout at a convenient store in his hometown of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. According Fasciana, he pulled into a small store at around 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon (July 3) to get something to drink and walked right into a robbery in progress. "I went in this little store on my way home to get a chocolate milk, of all things, and little did I know, I was walking into a life-or-death situation," he says. "When I walked into the store, I did not notice anyone else in the store until someone started screaming at me and pointed a gun at me. I nearly shit myself, because the dude looked wacked out of his mind and fired four shots directly at me and I went down to the ground because I thought I was surely shot. After about 30 seconds, I realized I was not hit at all and the shooter thought I was dead or injured and started attacking the store worker when I snuck up behind the burglar and talked [to] him and took the gun out of his hands and told him to get out of the store. He then reached in his sock and pulled another gun out and pointed it at me and that's when I fired two shots into his head, killing him instantly! "Never in my life has anything so twisted happened to me before and I would like to forget it ever happened, but I had no other choice. Lucky for me, the stupid crackhead burglar had the worst aim in the world and missed me with all four shots from about 10 feet away! Needless to say, all charges have been dropped and the store owner has offered me a lifetime of chocolate milk! Ha Ha! "I have been in some scary situations before, but having someone shoot out you from that close and miss is a fucking miracle and I have no remorse for killing the assailant who tried to take my life and the store owner's. "I gotta move out of this town!! I have enough problems as it is!! "I am very lucky and could easily be dead at this moment, but I'm not and I'm gearing up for our Mexican, South American and European headlining tour which start at the end of July. "I would like to put this behind me and not talk about it anymore. It was the most fucked up thing I have ever been involved with, besides my ex-girlfriend!!" UPDATE: According to Phil, the entire incident was captured on the store's surveillance video, but the police has yet to release the tape. BLABBERMOUTH.NET could not independently confirm the veracity of any of Fasciana's claims at press time. Furthermore, BLABBERMOUTH.NET could not find any news reports that corroborate the guitarist's account. Crash Music released a limited-edition digipack from MALEVOLENT CREATION entitled "Essentials" in February. The package features 38 tracks on three discs, with over 110 minutes of "pure brutality." MALEVOLENT CREATION's "Lost Commandments" DVD was released in August 2008 in Europe via Massacre Records. The one-hour, 45-minute disc features two complete shows from the band — Party.San Open Air festival (August 9-11, 2007 in Bad Berka, Germany) and Paris, France (2004). MALEVOLENT CREATION's latest album, "Doomsday X", was released in the U.S. in July 2007 via Nuclear Blast Records and in Europe in August 2007 via Massacre Records. The CD was recorded and engineered at Mercury Recording Studios in Pompano Beach, Florida by longtime friend and producer (and sometimes session member) Gus Rios, and is said to be the most diverse MALEVOLENT CREATION album recorded to date and "without a doubt their fastest!!" Mick Thomson, guitarist for SLIPKNOT, contributed a "ripping" guitar solo to the song "Deliver My Enemy". MALEVOLENT CREATION performing live in Czech Republic - August 2007:

I also like the fact that he throws a jab at his ex-girlfriend at the end. It's random but I like it!!

I haven't heard nothing of this story, no newspaper, tv, or radio news coverage at all. Something like this should've at the very least been on Channel 7 news (for anyone reading here from S. FL you know what I'm talking about), and to be honest I find the story hard to believe but if true I salute the Phil...in his defense I know being I have an uncle that is a newspaper publisher and having several cops in the family that in reality only about a third of actual crimes get reported by newsmedia, still if this was leaked out here I'd expect more coverage from other sources.

The news does not always report these things I mean there are probably thousands of robberies, shootings, killings, etc. a day in this country and the news does not report on every single one of them.
Hell we had some psycho here in kill his brother, kidnap his brother's girlfriend and kill her, and then kidnap some other lady when he stole her car... he shot her when the cop pulled them over but this was NOT on any news channel... none of the story was and if I did not know a person who works with the cousin of this guy then most people would have never known it happened.
Not everything that goes on is going to be in the paper or news people.

Total hero. GREAT job! Good thing he killed him, because if he didn't he'd probably come back and sue (well that's what happens in CA).
But what is this: "I snuck up behind the burglar and talked [to] him and took the gun out of his hands "??? He already knows the guy is a bad guy and an enemy. Why was he trying to "talk" to him? Almost got him killed again.
If this story is the way it sounds, it sounds like a miracle happened on a few levels in that store that day. Something to think about...

Count me among the cynical. Writing off any request for documentation as "not every shooting in this country gets reported" or "the news this week is all about MJ!" is flat out ridiculous. Sure, not every minor wounding makes CNN but something of this magnitude and dramatic potential would DEFINITELY have made the Ft. Lauderdale paper at the very least, and I am also unable to find any mention.
Even if a story should later surface I doubt it will turn out to have happened exactly the way Phil says. He makes it sound like not only did he just reach out and take the gun away from the robber but he talked to the guy first, so he didn't even have the element of surprise going for him. And he relates it all so matter of fact. I shouldn't be so surprised that the majority of commentators have swallowed this hook, line and sinker without any demands for proof but, hey, this IS Blabbermouth.

For those who still think it's possible that the local paper wouldn't have bothered reporting on this because, hey, it's just everyday crime that happens all the time, here's a story from WSVN (Miami/Lauderdale) about cross dressing car jackers:
http://www.wsvn.com/news/articles/local/MI125065/
Sure, THAT's more newsworthy. It'll be interesting to see how many posts deep we get into this thing before the majority of posters will admit that it was all bullshit.

... where exactly is Blabbermouth getting this story from? I haven't found it posted on any official MC page, including Myspace. I understand Blabbermouth is an authoritative news source and they often have exclusives emailed to them directly, but in a questionable story like this you want to attribute it somebody, even if it's as minor as revising the sentence in the story to "According to AN EMAIL FROM Fasciana...". This is just poor journalism, and if it does turn out to be a hoax it will just be one more bullet in the chamber for those who wish to denounce BM as a tabloid site.

A lot of towns cover up crime from the media in order to present a better image of the town.
If this story turns out to be untrue and Blabbermouth doesn't apologize or in any way acknowledge it, I will never again visit this site for metal news. Even though its just metal, I prefer credible media. This is why i dont watch MSNBC CNN or FOX for news.

And your evidence of this? Cities may rig statistics after the fact to make their crime rate appear lower but they can't prevent a news team from going out and filing a story on an individual incident to begin with.
"If this story turns out to be untrue and Blabbermouth doesn't apologize or in any way acknowledge it, I will never again visit this site for metal news. Even though its just metal, I prefer credible media. This is why i dont watch MSNBC CNN or FOX for news."
Chances are what will happen is there won't be any follow up at all. No further proof will be forthcoming and no retraction will be made. Most of the readers - at least the vocal ones - seem to have made up their minds to accept the story unconditionally so in their mind it's already solidified as fact.
Sorry to be a spoilsport but if in fact BM is drifting further toward tabloid journalism because they read these boards and think that's what their readers desire then I want my voice heard as well.

Let me amend that above prediction. If in fact this turns out to be a hoax perpetrated by someone other than Phil himself, which would obviously generate a rebuttal, then yes, there will obviously be a follow up/retraction in that case. But if this is Phil getting drunk and shooting his mouth off or the like, then no, I expect BM - having already posted the story without doing any research to ascertain its credibility - will just let sleeping dogs lie.

This story retains the distinct scent of bullshit. Looking at the Sun-Sentinel's (local FL paper) website and it reports a high school break-in, someone dying in a rollover, and someone shot to death during an argument so it would stand to reason that someone getting shot to death by a customer during a convenience store robbery would definitely make the news. We know you want to make sure we know you're all metal and hardcore, Phil, but come up with a more plausible story next time.

Why is it that this guy who claims to have killed an armed assailant with his on gun is being unanimously praised by all posters here, but when Ted Nugent promotes 2nd Amendment gun ownership rights, everybody on Blabbermouth bashes him and talks about how Ted is bad, guns are bad, guns should be outlawed, etc..???
Seems like a double standard to me.
In fact, if this story proves true, I'd expect Ted will probably be sending him a nice letter and/or gift for his good work.

When and where did these events occur? Because I have a very hard time believing that a double homicide/kidnapping/car theft/police chase wouldn't have gotten any attention from the media. A couple of years ago a guy down the street from me barricaded himself in his house with a gun threatening to kill himself because his wife had left him. I literally had to call in to my job because there were so many media vans and cop cars I couldn't get off my street and it was all over the news that night (the guy ended up surrendering, never knew what happened to him after that). I live in a metro area of about a million of a city that's routinely up there in the homicide numbers for its size. Murders? Reported. Fatal car accidents? Reported. Some guy blocking himself in his house? Reported. So names and locations or like our friend Phil you're pulling that out of your ass.

How can he not have any proof? There would be a dead body, possibly surveilence cameras, the store clerk's testimony, police reports. I mean it still is a murder, whether it was justified by self-defense or otherwise, he allegedly killed someone, the story would deifnitely make the local news at the least. And if the event was so horrible for him, why did they send a press release to blabbermouth.net ? I don't believe it one bit.

Listen, asshole -- I'm sorry that you don't have a firm grasp on the Engish language you attempt to speak, but that is not my problem.
In my sentence, the *subject* (ask your English teacher) was the ARMED ASSAILANT. That means the *object* (the gun) is linked to the assailant in that sentence, not to the shooter.
Just a little refresher for you on English sentence structure. Unfortunately, you should have mastered that in the 6th grade.

There's good reason to believe that this wouldn't make big headlines, small stores are robbed every day and many store owners don't want the bad publicity. The owner might have refused to comment and any reporter looking for a scoop would drop the story.

... about Blabbermouth not being able to verify anything at press time was added after many of these comments were posted (notice the UPDATE in the previous sentence).
Longsincedark: no offense but I immediately wrote off the veracity of your own example when I got to the "...if I did not know a person who works with the cousin of this guy...". Third hand gossip doesn't make for a reputable source, sorry.
To the rest of you who have no problem buying this hook, line and sinker because "not everything gets reported", no one is saying EVERYTHING gets reported, but something of this magnitude and dramatic potential most definitely WOULD get reported. Apparently those who are calling us doubters morons for thinking it would be in the papers have never heard of such thing as a police blotter.
It's not up to the city council or the store owner to sign off on it or cooperate in order for the media to be able to report on it. Reporters routinely monitor the police blotter for salient stories, so basically the only way this would have not gotten reported is if Phil and the store owner (not to mention any other patrons in the store at the time) made a conspiratorial pact to dispose of the body themselves and keep the whole thing quiet. Sorry, but if you think that is more likely than one lone individual just inventing the story themselves then who is the real moron?
