Report: AEROSMITH's Wings Clipped By Ailing Singer, Again
- July 4, 2009
|
|
Dean Goodman of Reuters reports: Here's AEROSMITH by numbers: The veteran rock band has performed seven shows on its summer tour, but now two of its five members are on the sick list forcing the postponement of at least three shows. In the latest development singer Steven Tyler, 61, has been hobbled by an unspecified injury, putting the kibosh on Cincinnati (July 1), Hershey, Pa. (July 3) and Virginia Beach, Va. (July 5). Guitarist Joe Perry sent out a Twitter message on Friday expressing "sincere apologies," and asking fans to pray for Tyler's speedy return. "It really bums me out too — you have no idea," he said. Read the entire article from Reuters.

It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with age, but Aerosmith have had a string of bad luck in recent years...Tom's throat cancer, Joe's knee replacement, Brad sitting out this tour due to recent surgery...
And of course, Steven coming down with "hepatitis" and "curing" it with an intense round of chemo...not sure I ever believed that story.
It's pretty clear from recent interviews and watching Steven's erratic behavior that the dude has fallen off the wagon hard in the past few years and can't get his act together.
I love Aerosmith but it seems like these guys are just about finished if Steven can't pull his head out of the clouds.

you might wanna check out the Stones Bigger Bang and the Who's Endless Wire. Both great cd's made by bands in their 60's. Both still put on amazing shows as well.
Also Springsteen is approaching 60. Having been to 3 of his shows in the last year 1/2 I can honestly say the guy still puts on the best show you'll ever see.

I also add David Gilmour and Roger Waters to that list as both of their recent tours were amazing and both still had the goods.

The next generation? It's kind of sad that there really aren't any bands that can take the place of these old guys. I really hope that AIC can pull it off with the new record because there really isn't anyone else. Metallica? Hate say it but they're coming to the end of their run too. Nickelback? They're the new Styx. It's all in AIC's hands to keep the rock torch lit.

Springsteen is 60, and he still puts on the greatest show I've seen =)
On topic; I do hope Tyler pulls himself together, it'd be a damn shame for Aerosmith to quit while I still haven't seen them!

Well...yes, to a degree, haha.
However...look at the guys in AC/DC...no major health issues. The Stones, Pete Townsend, Roger Daltry, Dave Gilmour, Roger Waters, Bruce Springsteen, Halford, Tipton, Dio, Iommi, Butler...all around 60, over well over 60.
It's a crapshoot, basically. Yeah, age will catch up with everyone, but Aerosmith appear to have been more unlucky than most aging bands.

I never thought I'd say this but so far I'm glad I haven't bought my ticket yet to the Ottawa show with ZZ Top. It's looking increasingly like a risk to see this show if Aerosmith's health problems are mounting.
Hopefully this is just a minor relapse. Get well soon, Steven!

Whatever, pal.
Tell that to Lemmy, Iggy Pop, Keith Richards, Gene Simmons, and Joe Perry.
They consistently bring it night after night and all guys like you can do to compete is log on to a message board.

It's over for these guys. Steven has fallen off the wagon again and it's unfortunate. The thing is that there really is no time for them. If they can't make THIS tour happen, what's next? At the rate Steven can get it together, he'll be 63 or 64 before he might be clean enough to do it again, and at THAT age, it's just about over. It's hard to acknoledge when it's time to give it up. It's over for Aerosmith. Let it be.

a couple of years ago in holland, so i don't think that 2 years have taken such a toll on them. They were in TOP FORM back then, so i guess it's just bad luck ! I 'd push back the whole thing 10 days to be sure !
