Report: Police Investigating AC/DC Online Ticket Sales - July 4, 2009
Sarah Vogler of Australia's News.com.au reports that at least 40 online ticket sales are being investigated as the Queensland Police Service's Property Crime Investigation Unit closes in on illegal scalping.

The Sunday Mail revealed last month that hundreds of tickets to megaband AC/DC's concerts were being sold illegally at inflated prices on online auction site eBay.

Tickets to concerts at Queensland sporting stadiums are not allowed to be re-sold for more than 10 per cent above the purchase price.

I hate ticket scalpers - I see them as the absolute scum of the earth! Oh sure, I hear you all now - it's a business, if you don't want to pay the money than don't but the tickets. Fuck you! If you vampires got a job and weren't sitting at home buying up all the tickets and then selling them for profit, the real fans might have a chance to go to see their favourite band for the price on the ticket! The unfortunate part is that the police have little effect on this, and the only solution to the problem is that tickets get registered to the purchaser's name, and the purchaser needs identification to activate them at the venue.

I'm from Queensland in Australia, but saw Acca Dacca live at Wembley Stadium in London the other week and paid a premium for the privilege, but the flip side was that the gig was long sold out by the time I got around to getting a ticket.

I used ViaGoGo and the good thing about that service is that people who post tickets on there for sale can put any price from cheap to expensive and it's up to you the buyer what you want to pay. Of course once they put their commission on top of that you end up paying a fair amount, but for the service they provide i.e. no fucking around with dodgy sellers and a guarentee if your ticket never shows up, it was well worth it and the show was fucking phenomenal.

Also met Angus that day while he was chain smoking some durries outside a restaurant in Mayfair, but that's another story...

I cannot stand those guys. Me and my buddy just saw Def Leppard/Posion and Cheap Trick last night in Toronto and were looking to trade our tickets for better seats (we had 400s). We walked up to one scalper (who had front row seats) and he wanted our tickets plus another $250 per ticket! As soon as he said that i pretty much said fuck it and walked away.

If i was one of these big bands I would pay cops to stand outside the venue and nab these guys, take their tickets and give them out for free to the fans because I have lost count on how many concerts where i have had shitty seats in the nose bleeds meanwhile these dudes are standing right outside the venue with good seats and selling them at inflated prices.

That's what I'm talking about - if the "scalpers" were adding a small premium to the face value, say 10%, I wouldn't feel so bitter. But a lot of these dickheads are doubling, tripling even quadrupling the asking price from the face value. That's what makes them vampires!

What happens when the cops confiscate tickets from "scalpers"? I was outside a huge show in TO last year and the police grabbed a scalper and he had a stack of tickets more than an inch thick! Do those tickets get re-sold, or are they kept by police and wasted?

Im assuming the tickets are kept with police because if they do lay charges those tickets are admissable as evidence in court. If charges aren't laid, they probably get thrown into the garbage.
