L.A. GUNS' JIZZY PEARL: 'Everything We Do Sounds Like The Classic Band' - July 4, 2009
Steve Wildsmith of The Daily Times recently conducted an interview with singer Jizzy Pearl (L.A. GUNS, LOVE/HATE). A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

On the current L.A. GUNS tour:

"It's what we do for a living. I mean, how do those guys on 'The Deadliest Catch' do what they do? They dig deep. They've got soul. That's what we have, and that's 10 times better than anything else. We're all blue collar now. There are no more mansions or Learjets, so I think the fans that come to our shows these days appreciate that we're working twice as hard.

"Playing-wise, there's really no adjustment; I've just got to get used to the long days and the drinking. Everything changes, and we're not 20 years old anymore. We do a very blue-collar gig. There's a lot of driving, and it's harder in some ways — but in other ways, it's more fun because you don't have this oppressive record label whipping you every 10 minutes and stealing all of your money."

On the fact that there are two versions of L.A. GUNS — one led by guitarist Tracii Guns and the other fronted by singer Phil Lewis:

"It's just a made-up controversy — to me, Tracii is the original guitar player. We're just doing what we do, and the songs sound great, and we're having fun."

On the creative spark that keeps the Tracii Guns version of L.A. GUNS going:

"You have to keep the joy of playing music alive. A lot of these guys in other bands don't like each other — they're tired, and they've lost that magic and joy of playing. You have to be friends with the people you're in a band with, and that's what keeps us going. We all like each other.

"To me, everything we do sounds like the classic band; there's just the twist of me bringing my own identity to the songs. They're the same, but they're not the same, if that makes any sense — and that's what makes it cool to me. For anybody who doubts it, go to YouTube and check out the videos that were put up just in the last couple of days.

"I think they speak for themselves. In this day and age, you're not allowed to suck anymore, and anybody who watches them is going to want to come out, I think."

Apart from the pure genius of Blackout In The Red Room twenty years ago, the only thing Mr Pearl has done worth mentioning is him being crucified on the Hollywood sign to make headlines..rest is total bullshit

Anybody remember "shrinking Violet"? thats the one album out of all of the LA guns albums that I didnt even listen to more than once and got rid of it.Everything about that album was shitty...songwriting, the sound, the music...
I mean "american hardcore" sounded not one iota like LA Guns yet I still own it and I listen to it on occassion.Looking back, I thought Jizzy sounded like Stephen Pearcy on that album, and then he endedup singing in Ratt."Tales from the sunset strip" is probably much better than anything this redo of the shrinking violet era will do, besides Im still kinda pissed at Tracii for messing things up with Nikki Sixx cos I loved Brides Of Destruction and I kinda saw him as the best guy to fill in for Mick Mars in The Crue when Mick decided to hang it up (not that he will or needs to, but tracii seemed like a good fit just in case)

Is this guy nuts?? Neither LA Guns or Love/Hate in their hey days made enough money to own lear jets - someone may have taken them for a spin but get real - neither band ever was that big - LA Guns biggest tour ever was opening for AC/DC - yeah they headlined some big shows in Japan..yawn - Love/Hate...Blackout in the Redroom was pretty cool and the album art was rad - but him acting like they were the Stones or Aerosmith or something is a joke -

Cheers -

Jeffery

Isn't Jizzy out of the Tracii Guns Band when the new record with Marty Casey comes out? Did I miss something. I remember reading the record was done but no one wants to do tour support this Guns until there is a release.

Did I miss something here?

was a departure from the classic L.A. Guns sound, but did have a lot of great heavy tracks and hooks. One of Tracii's best solos came on the last track of that album - 'I Am Alive'. I also saw that tour and have 4 dvds from it and the band was very energetic. Chris was more of a punk or hardcore type singer but he did the songs pretty good. But I can see where many people would not have liked that album or style.

By the way, Chris is one of the nicest guys you could meet. He talks to everybody on myspace and facebook and even sent me some old L.A. Guns pictures and some autographs just for askin..

The Shrinking Violet album with Jizzy had a few good tracks, most notably Dreamtime. Had that been a bit better produced or came out 15 years earlier, I could see that song being VERY BIG. Just listen to it.
