NUGENT: 'It's Independence Day, But Only For Those Of Us Who Refuse To Be Eaten By Fedzilla' - July 4, 2009
Legendary rocker Ted Nugent has penned the following "Fourth Of July" essay:

"As the stunned and defeated British army marched out of Yorktown, their band appropriately played the song 'A World Turned Upside Down'.

"Our forefathers pledged their lives and fortunes to fight and defeat the world's mightiest army and give birth to America. Our victory over King George was the greatest military upset in the annals of human history. George Washington believed our amazing victory was a result of divine providence.

"The dream of limited government, personal freedom and liberty, rugged individualism, and self-sufficiency that our forefathers fought and died for is rapidly disappearing in 2009. It is once again a world turned upside down.

"Our federal government is turning into the very type of heavy-handed, unaccountable, and disrespectful government our forefathers despised, fought against, and warned us to avoid. Too few Americans know and appreciate this critically important piece of American history. Shame on them.

"Instead of heeding the warnings of our forefathers, we have embraced big government and both political parties have been more than happy to give it to us over the past 45 years, thereby making us more dependent on Fedzilla β€” the federal beast with a voracious appetite for our tax dollars, and intentionally creating dependency and control. We are once again becoming subjects, not citizens.

"Fedzilla is the most unresponsive, unaccountable, bloated and ineffective bureaucratic nightmare the world has ever witnessed. It punishes the producers and risk-takers while rewarding the simpletons it has conned into believing it is helping. Fedzilla is the enemy of the free market and freedom.

"Instead of allowing the free market to correct itself, Fedzilla meddles in the free market and makes things worse. I give you Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Using our tax dollars, Fedzilla has purchased General Motors, and bailed out AIG and other financial institutions.

"Fedzilla pushed through an unauthorized trillion-dollar economic stimulus bill that not one elected representative read before voting on it. Regardless what legal nuance or loophole some Fedzillacrat lawyer could point to in our constitution or court decision that allows for such grotesque meddling and spending, I adamantly believe this level of federal meddling and control was not the dream of our forefathers.

"And guess what? It’s not working. Our economy would recover more and faster if Congress repealed the phony 'stimulus' and get out of the way of free market capitalism.

"In the latest of initiatives that 'we must solve immediately,' President Obama wants to Fedzillarize the health-care industry. Placing your health and trust in the bureaucratic hands of Fedzilla is analogous to asking a drunk driver for a ride. Fedzilla will destroy your health. It creates cancer, does not cure it.

"We are witnessing what large government will do to its citizens and to itself if left virtually unchecked. Due to unsustainable and out-of-control 'budgets,' the state of California is on verge of a financial meltdown. Other states such as New York are not far behind. Fedzilla will ultimately collapse under its own weight because the socialism model it is built upon is ultimately unsustainable. However, the social, economic, and cultural carnage it will cause to America until it collapses will be catastrophic. Free men and women are horrified.

"Higher taxes and more government ultimately lead to economic genocide. Alternatively, lower taxes, less government, and more independence lead to prosperity for all who are willing to take advantage of it. Our forefathers who threw the tea over the side of the ship in Boston Harbor knew this. The people who attended the Tea Parties this past April know it. Do you?

"Sometime during your Dependence Day celebration, you should take a few moments and read the Declaration of Independence aloud to your children, relatives and guests. Read it slowly and let the words sink in. When finished, reflect for a moment on our forefathers who bravely signed their names to it, thereby signing their own death warrant.

"Think about that. They were willing to die for the chance at limited federal
government, independence, freedom and liberty. They didn't fight and die for freedom so you could have Fedzilla housing, food, transportation and health care.

"To my fellow Americans who still cherish the dream of our founding fathers, I wish you a wonderful and Happy Independence Day. To those of you who are willing to compromise your liberty and freedom in the hopes that Fedzilla will provide you an artificial blanket of security, enjoy your Dependence Day.

"I'm a free man β€” a citizen, not a subject β€” who still hears the distant ringing of the Liberty Bell. Don't tread on me and I won't be forced to Ted on you. Be forewarned: push me too far at your own peril."

All of these elected civil servants need to get off the gravy train & go spend more time in their respective states, & We The People need to demand shortened term limits on every position in our government no matter how much we like someone!

Are you one of the simpleton's nuge is writing about? In case you did not notice, what he wrote was non-partisan. The federal govenment is out of control (thanks to both democrats AND republicans). Take off your blinders and notice what is going on.

You are a prime example of what Alexander Hamilton wrote about in The Federalist Papers when he admonished that only property owners be accorded the right to vote.

This economic crisis is a direct result of de-regulation that has been going on since Reagan, and was perpetuated by the Bush administration for the last 8 years. You think this shit will be solved in 6 months? Grow up and get some logic skills. As far as the health care goes....this is the typical opinion of a rich celebrity who only wants healthcare available to people like him - never mind all the working-class shmucks who get screwed, right? Hey asshole, if you're so patriotic maybe you shouldn't be such a Bush/Cheney supporter - considering the fact that they were both draft dodgers and weaseled their way out of going to war when they had their chance to serve. Nice try, but wrong answer. The seeds of the current crisis were planted in 1978 by Jimmy Carter and fertilized by Bill Clinton in the name of the Community Re-Investment acts. Banks were forced to write marginal/bad loans in the name of helping the poor. The problem is that these were loans that were given to people who did not have means of paying them back.

Then Barney Frank and Chris Dodd utilized Fannie and Freddie to be a de facto insurer.

Now, put yourself into the shoes of the banks that "owned" this bad paper. They had to create a way to mitigate these potenital liabilities. Thus they created CDO's to hide the bad loans. When institutions that purchased these CDO's were upside down, they claimed the "insurance" from AIG and Fannie/Freddie. This created the current financial crisis.

Please check your facts before you lay blame where it does not belong.

Wow, nice right-wing hatchet rant.

Jimmy Carter? Check.
Bill Clinton? Check.
Barney Frank? Check.
Chris Dodd? Check.

You managed to name-drop just about every bogus Republican bogeyman, but you forgot to work in George Soros, Al Franken and the "librul media", so I have to dock you a few points.

The fact is that the seed of this meltdown were sown with Reaganomics and his constant refrain of less regulation, which managed to infect both parties over the years.

The fact is that, far from being the liberal caricature that Republicans make him out to be, Clinton was a conservative, corporate Democrat who put corporate stooges like Robert Rubin and Lawrence Summers in charge of the Treasury.

Couple that with unbridled right-wing nuts like former Texas Senator Phil Gramm, who is probably more responsible than any other individual for this meltdown through his ramming through Gramm-Leach-Bliley, which repealed the Glass-Steagal Act and paved the way for these massive "too big to fail" investment banks taking over our government.

And of course Gramm also rammed through the Commodity Futures Modernization Act in 2000, which allowed for the entire credit default swap market to be completely un-regulated.

And of course, Gramm's wife cashed in on this piece of legislation soon after, being granted a seat on the board of Enron. This was Gramm's "thank you" for his years of pushing radical market de-regulation.

So this is a bipartisan crisis, through and through. The real villains are pro-corporate, radical de-regulation proponents like Phil Gramm, Robert Rubin, Lawrence Summers and Alan Greenspan.

Unfortunately Obama, far from being a socialist, or even a liberal, is YET ANOTHER corporate Democrat, as evidenced by his tapping of Summers and Geithner, two Wall St. henchmen who do the bidding of capitalist behemoths like Goldman and Citi.

Frankly, I wish Obama WAS a tough liberal in the mold of FDR, and put in some regulations with real teeth and sent these corporate criminals to prison for life, but alas, he is not.

Of course that won't stop pitiful right-wingers from whining about how liberal Obama is, but that's just pure alarmist idiocy, as the facts show.

From what I've observed, most fellow musicians are at best ignorant when it comes to anything related to economics and history, and at worst, uneducated kool-aid drinkers. Although I like Obama personally and approve of some of what he's done, I had no illusions that he would really bring the "change" that so many of his blind worshippers bought into.

I thought the liberals were supposed to be for freedom of speech and expression and it's the crazy "neo-cons" that suppress anti-government protests. doesn't seem like it here.

"good for you if you have concerns about a Republican administration - speak out and speak up. concerns about a Democratic administration - shut up."

you can disagree with Nugent all you want, that's fine, but what he is saying is anti-establishment which is usually what liberals embrace, is it not? read what he said and agree or disagree. it's healthy. but posting that he should shut up, move, or die shows your true ignorance.

oh, and by the way BrainRotMenacer, the Community Investment Act is a LAW, so this "encouragement" of banks to loan to those who would normally be unqualified is the same as the "encouragement" to not steal. It's a freakin' LAW, dummy.

wasn't really the problem. There were plenty of regulatory bodies that could have stepped in, but didn't. Why, because those people aren't as smart as the people actually doing things. If they were, they wouldn't have been beauracrats. The problem with hoping regulators will do something is that they are always a step behind at best, and complicit in creating loopholes for exploitation by their financiers at worst. I'm not saying there should be anarchy, but unless we all step up, and create more of a "real time" regulatory body by being responsible for ourselves and what goes on around us, bad things will keep happening. The legislators can't predict the future, and so can never write perfect legislation. Putting things in the hands of the govt. inevitably costs more, is less effective and takes longer cause they are detached from where things are happening, and removes personal freedom because the legislators are trying to come up with some blanket statement for how lots and lots of people should live their lives.

Obama is not a socialist. Americans wouldn't know a socialist if one stepped up and slapped them in the face. They guy is very pro-business, and ALL American politicians are pro-big government. Think about it, it'd be damn-near impossible for America, one of the richest, most powerful countries on the planet to have a small government.

You want socialism? Go to Sweden. There's not a single party between both Canada and the United States that goes that far with their platforms, save maybe the NDP. Maybe.

that report you posted, which was a story on the hugely bias website NewsMax has been passed around in emails to help garner up support for people to go after universal health care yet it has been ripped to shreds.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_and_American_health_care_systems_compared
http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html

I find it interesting that the study failed to include the US you failed to mention this. Had the US been included, you of course would have come in 33rd.

"Life expectancy is longer in Canada, and its infant mortality rate is lower than that of the U.S., but there is debate about the underlying causes of these differences. One commonly cited comparison, the World Health Organization's ratings of "overall health service performance", published in 2000, which used a "composite measure of achievement in the level of health, the distribution of health, the level of responsiveness and fairness of financial contribution", ranked Canada 30th and the U.S. 37th among 191 member nations. This study rated the US "responsiveness", or quality of service, as 1st, compared with 7th for Canada".

Finally, when it comes to highest per capita spending, I of course already touched on the reason above with regard to how spread out Canadians are and how many Canadians live in remote areas of the country. Even so, had the US been included, we would not have been able to hold a candle to you.

"The U.S. spends much more on health care than Canada, both on a per-capita basis and as a percentage of GDP.[5] In 2006, per-capita spending for health care in the U.S. was US$6,714; in Canada, US$3,678.[5] The U.S. spent 15.3% of GDP on health care in that year; Canada spent 10.0%."

Yet you still have 47 million Americans without insurance.

I could go on and on but you have to get back to FreeRepublic.com and I have to go live my life because if I had to deal with you anymore I would put a bullet in my brain.

On a side note I laughed at your assessment of Limbaugh and their growing viewership and how that some how means they are telling the truth. Just because you have a large viewership doesn't mean JACK when it comes to if they are being truthful and serving the public good. many studies along with a very informative documentary called, "outfoxed" would prove otherwise. I do laugh as you some how are trying to draw that parallel and assume that is the case. When someone does that automatically it proves they have zero rational and logical skills when it comes to anything. Ironically your name is Zero so it is fitting.

I am sure you are like everybody else out there and getting forward after forward from whoever and believing it as fact or hitting up the big sites like Foxnews or NewsMax and spreading whatever truth you hear their as fact. That is by far the worst thing you can do for society and really shows a lack of intelligence and initiative on your part when it comes to wanting to know the real truth or at least something as close to it as possible. People who strive for knowledge, which obviously you don't, ask questions and push thought processes into new directions and don't believe what they hear at first glance.

I have no interest in taking either the GOP or Democratic failboat side because to me both of them DO NOT service society in any shape or form. IT is the have vs the have nots and right now they have the power and people just sit back and let it happen. People like yourself and others are to caught up in the "who is right game" that no one can get pass their egos to actually HELP society. But that is what they want they want to keep people distracted with stupid in fighting because that means they can pass more legislation and take more out of our pockets. Get a clue, get over yourself, grow some balls, pick up a book, and try to join society on a new higher level instead of slumming it in the bottom. Our society needs real fighters not partisan hacks. Here is a George Carlin bit that sums up everything pretty well-

We don't have substandard care in the context of quality, it's more quantity. yes, it takes longer to get care. the system is flawed. While I respect Ted Nugent as a musician, I'm not really a huge fan of his music. But I feel like he really spoke the truth in a lot of areas here. It seems the dems/libs want to undo everything that our forefathers fought and died for. They've taken advantage of their freedom of speech and are demanding things that go against the ideas that were written in the Declaration of Independence. Many of these people don't want to contribute to society and earn anything...They just want to be lazy and be given everything for free. People call conservatives greedy because they supposedly don't share their wealth. First of all, that's an unfair stereotype, because I know a number of right-wingers (including myself) that donate to a number of charities and do community service. Secondly, it seems MORE greedy to me that you would contribute so little to society, and yet still feel you deserve something. Like Ted said, those people aren't independent at all. Ted isn't bitching about America, he's asking us to remember what this country was founded on and what we were given, to appreciate that and keep living that way. Instead of instantly bashing Ted because of his right-wing views or because you don't like his music, try reading this article closely with an open mind. Be thankful for what was given to you, and remember why.

Bottom line, zero, is that you're obviously not going to convince me of anything. I certainly am not going to convince you of anything. But I think that, based on our little exchange here, it's pretty apparent who's more level-headed and balanced between the both of us.

As far as your little rambling incoherent pseudo-threat about watching my family to find out about me (your words), that I'll let go due to the fact that you're probably in your early twenties and an armchair amateur Fox News wannabe pundit that doesn't know any better nor have any common sense about making implied threats on the internet. You can rest assured that I feel pretty justified in saying that due to your implication that I'm on government welfare (or whatever point you were trying to make). I own a home and buy my food from the grocery store down the street, so your "observations" that you're erroneously trying to portray as fact in order to either scare me or impress others are pretty much going to fall on deaf ears; I'd venture to say that even the most ignorant among us talking back on this thread can see through that pretty readily.

I really have nothing left to say to you. Frankly, it's a nice day outside and I'd rather enjoy that than listen to you ramble and saber rattle any further. The bottom line is that America is, in fact, on the road to recovery in its economy, infrastructure and popular standing in the world. I know that. You can argue it all you want, but that doesn't make it true or you right.

Your party is out of power, and after such a long time in it, I realize that it's very frightening to you. One only needs to turn on conservative media to see the truth of that. You're a party without a face, without a leader, without a filibuster and without direction and as such, you flail about in a blind effort to cause the same amount of panic in others that you find in yourselves.

Honestly, it's silly and you're silly.

I myself am going to go enjoy my day before going to work. I suggest you go outside, get a breath of fresh air and do the same. It'll do wonders for your disposition, I bet.

In the future, I'd highly suggest altering your means of argument. Insults and name calling won't impress anybody. By the means of your output, I visualize you sitting in your chair, face furrowed in anger, banging on the keys as hard as you can while you post diatribe after diatribe that nobody's really reading, anyway. I myself have read very little of anything you've actually posted, only as it relates to me.

Best guess is that your effort is pretty much wasted. I'd suggest a more positive investment of your anger and energy rather than a heavy metal chat board.
