L.A. GUNS Parts Ways With Bassist, Announces Replacement - July 5, 2009
The Phil Lewis-fronted version of L.A. GUNS has parted ways with bassist Scotty Griffin and has replaced him with Kenny Kweens (BEAUTIFUL CREATURES).

Commented Lewis: "One of [Scotty's] side projects has hit the jackpot. THE KING MIXERS have been offered a residency at the Sunset Station Casino in Vegas where he'll be playing every Saturday night for at least a year. Naturally, we're sorry to see him go; it's been a true pleasure having him with us for over two hundred shows over the last couple of years. He's a great musician and a very fun guy to have out on the road. He will be sincerely missed."

Regarding Griffin's relacement, Lewis said, "We've been friends with Kenny for a long time and have tried to get him in the band several times and now it seems the stars are aligned and the timing's right, so he'll be picking up the slack from Scotty. His first show with us will be opening for WHITESNAKE at the Tyson Event Center in Sioux City, Iowa on July 18 and all the rest of the shows we have booked until the end of the year, including three weeks in Europe in September.

He added, "We've been working songs from the set in the studio with [Kenny] and he sounds amazing. Him and Steve [Riley, drums] have great chemistry and the music sounds very solid. Both Stacey [Blades, guitar] and I are delighted to have such a gentleman in the band.

"It's our first change in lineup since Adam [Hamilton, bass] left almost three years ago, so we all feel very fortunate to have such a good player join us for a very busy summer and hopefully some recording when things quieten down at the end of the year."

L.A. GUNS' latest album, "Tales from the Strip", was released in August 2005 in the U.S. via Shrapnel Records. The CD, which was produced by Andy Johns (LED ZEPPELIN, THE ROLLING STONES), was lyrically inspired by a historically significant rock scene that L.A. GUNS had a strong hand in creating.

Phil Lewis' L.A. GUNS is not to be confused with the Tracii Guns-led version of the group, which is also continuing to record and perform under the L.A. GUNS moniker.

I am just curious how it feels to play clubs for nearly 30 years? It's like they are just your local neighborhood rock band.

L.A. Guns came out a few years too late but what hurt them throughout their career is the constant line-up changes over and over and over.

Literally 40 different members have come and gone through this band.

Not to say they all weren't capable musicians, but the fact still remains. Every other year they have a new bass player, or add a second guitar player, or Phil leaves then comes back, etc etc.

This is the real LA Guns. The joke of a band Traci has is just that a joke. He quit the band, thats his fault.

It's a shame really that Tracii messed up the band, in that i mean when he decided to do his own version, he left of his own accord so fuck him basically....(and his version is crap btw)

Phil Lewis and Steve Riley should be doing this as they haven't jumped ship or anything...they deserve much more credit than they are getting......This band without the joke of an ex guitarist bollocking everything up i believe would have been much bigger now......

I mean look at it this way right.....Steel Panther just played the download festival......and they are an actual parody band (funny as fuck though)....well done Tracii you fucked everything.

LA Guns has always been one of my favorite bands. When the debut came out, along with Junkyard, Faster Pussaycat and a few others ,back when slaughter, firehouse, and danger danger were getting all the attention, they were a welcome nod to the early days of the LA metal scene.
LA Guns is a band that if you liked one of their albums, youd like them all.Except for "hollywood vampires" bieng too poppy imo, every phil lewis lead LA Guns album rocked.
You guys who knock this band are refugees from the 90's eighties hate fest. Its not trendy to hate the eighties anymore , and if you dont like "hair bands" or "cock rock" or whatever stupid label you put on old school sunset strip metal these days, dont read the articles and comment on one of those bands who sound like they have a gastric disturbance....
