JAMES MURPHY Laying Down Guest Leads On STRUCTURE OF INHUMANITY CD; Video Available - July 5, 2009
Acclaimed guitarist-turned-producer James Murphy (TESTAMENT, DEATH, OBITUARY) recently laid down two guest solos on the debut album STRUCTURE OF INHUMANITY, the band featuring PYRAMAZE keyboardist Jonah Weingarten. Entitled "Completion Integration", the CD is being produced by Murphy and SOILWORK guitarist Peter Wichers, who also makes a guest appearance on the record.

Video footage of Murphy laying down his guest leads on the STRUCTURE OF INHUMANITY CD can be viewed below.

In addition to Weingarten, STRUCTURE OF INHUMANITY's lineup includes Clay Barton (SUSPYRE) and Eugene Smith (LEGION OF CARCAROTH). The band features "a dual vocal assault as well as blistering and insanely melodic melodies and solos" provided by Weingarten and axe-shredder Mike Iuzzolino, according to a press release.

According to the band's official bio, "The basic groundwork that became the foundation of the STRUCTURE OF INHUMANITY sound was melodic, epic, occasionally progressive, and over-the-top heavy metal, strongly rooted in the Swedish and Finnish sound, with a touch of American-style riffing. Influences ranging from SOILWORK, ICED EARTH, EDGE OF SANITY, ARCH ENEMY, CHILDREN OF BODOM, and, of course, PYRAMAZE can be heard."

STRUCTURE OF INHUMANITY is:

Jonah Weingarten: Keyboards
Michael Iuzzolino: Guitar
Clay Barton: Vocals
Brian Harris: Drums
Eugene Smith: Vocals
Noah Martin: Bass
Blaine Bowden: Guitar

His leads on Cause Of Death make that the best Obituary album of the lot. Santolla is a notch above Allen West but still not as good as Murphy. Glad to see him recovered from his medical problems - hope that he can get enough cash (and time) together to release that second Disincarnate album at some point - the first one was awesome.

The fans have been waiting far too long for a Disincarnate album. I wish he would do an interview to address the status of that project. The first Disincarnate record was unbelievable and I can only dream of what the next might be like. The only thing I can forsee that may hurt the next record would be a different singer....I wish he could get back the original singer. James Murphy is the without a doubt the most exciting, original guitar player in death metal and the most creative next to Trey Azagthoth.

Great guitarist. Enjoyed his work on Testament's classic The Gathering album.

He's very highly acclaimed as a guitarist, just not so much yet on the turned-producer end of things. Whenever anyone brings him aboard, his leads really spice things up...very tasty, more melodic than a lot of Death Metal guys.

So he is a death metal session guitarist? I know he is on a few cult death metal records but he doesn't write at all, right? He comes in and solos on stuff?

He wrote the Disincarnate album, he has writing credits on half of Spiritual Healing, he wrote his own solo albums, and he's got at least one credit in Testament. Probably more with Konkhra as well. James is the fuckin man!

a new Disincarnate album would be great, but what about that Chuck Schuldiner tribute album that was mentioned a few years ago?

...he's the best out there. Been my #1 lead guitarist since 1990 when he did Spiritual Healing. He's still progressing as a player to this day. To think 8 years ago he didn't even own a guitar or amp! So thankful he battled cancer and kicked it's arse. YOU RULE JAMES!

COMMENT | Update please James?

I would love an update on the Death(Chuck Schuldiner) tribute album that was supposed to be released years ago. And the long overdue 2nd Disincarnate album that was promised long ago.

I'm glad James is doing well and still playing leads and all, but an update on the above projects would be appreciated.

His work on Cause of Death and Death Shall Rise made those albums even more jaw droppingly awesome than they already were. As well has the stuff he contributed on Spiritual Healing and "Inoculated Life" with Gorguts.

I think he worked well with Chuck as a co-writer, but in my opinion, I think the jury is still out on his own stuff. I think "Dreams of the Carrion Kind" was shite. A real boring lifeless affair. Such an overated record, I tried and tried to like it, but in the end it was too dull to enjoy.

Great lead guitarist though. I have "The Gathering", but only listened to it once. Dont like Testament, so Im probably missing out on his great work on this record.

COMMENT | James really shines on "Low."

Take a listen to Testament's "Low." I almost didn't miss Skolnick when I heard that.
As for "The Gathering," James didn't have much to do on that album. He's all over "Low."

His first solo album, Convergence was also very killer.

Also, check out the other guitarists from this band. Blaine Bowden's band Inimica is very cool.
