GOJIRA, VOLBEAT Added To METALLICA's North American Tour - July 8, 2009
METALLICA has posted the following message on the band's official web site, Metallica.com:

"While we are still enjoying our European summer vacation, a quick note here about the fall shows in North America. Our French friends GOJIRA will be joining us, along with LAMB OF GOD, for shows September 14 - October 18, while Lars' [Ulrich] brethren from Denmark VOLBEAT will hanging for the shows October 26 - December 12. One other quick thing — unfortunately LAMB OF GOD cannot continue on with us in December, so we'll have more news about those shows for you later."

For a list of upcoming METALLICA shows, go to lithis location.

Last night's (July 7) METALLICA concert in Nimes, France at Arènes de Nîmes was professionally filmed for a forthcoming DVD release. The disc will be made available on October 19 through French music stores and online shops only, as well as via the band's official web site, Metallica.com.

WorMee will stream METALLICA's concert in Nimes from July 10 until July 13. You just need to register with the site to watch, and the stream is available to everyone around the world.

As previously reported, METALLICA's three concerts in Mexico City were also filmed for a separate DVD release. The band played Mexico City for the first time in a decade on June 4, June 6 and June 7, with the group keeping the shows on its schedule despite the recent outbreak of swine flu that originated in the area.

METALLICA has issued several DVDs in the past, including "Cliff 'Em All", "Cunning Stunts", "S&M With The San Francisco Symphony Orchestra" and "A Year And A Half".

The band, recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, continues to tour behind "Death Magnetic", which has sold 1.78 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

period. In possibly all of metal now. I really messed up not seeing them on their recent US headline tour, even if the openers were horrible.

I've yet to hear a full album from these guys, I've heard some material on Youtube but nothing that I can really dig just yet but I got plenty of time.

They supposedly put on a real tight live show and if they can deliver the goods before Metallica, I'll be glad to see them.

Well Ironlung, I actually saw them live in May, and the openers weren't bad at all. I dug a couple of songs from The Chariot, and Car Bomb really impressed me. Gojira is still the best though!

HAHA! These guys always pick the worst possible bands to open for them. I guess that keeps the folks out buying more merch and shit before they hit the stage. I thought about going to see them again after 19 years but uh no I'll wait a few more.

Metallica sure knows how to choose opening bands. Total respect - better than linkin park and limp bizkit, like they did before.

what the fuck are you talking about? Gojira, Volbeat and Lamb Of God followed by Metallica. Who else do you want them to have as openers??

I saw Volbeat twice live at festivals this spring and summer and still don't know what to make of them, to me it sounds like a third rate Guns 'N Roses tribute band defiles Johnny Cash songs. And the above Misfits remark in connection with Volbeat I can't place at all.

I saw Volbeat open for Nightwish in May--had never heard of them before then but they put on a great show. They're basically rockabilly metal for lack of a better term. The frontman's funny as hell too.

I believe Volbeat has coined a new term for their type of music, "Elvis metal"...

Gotta give Lars credit. He DOES indeed sell out. Every show, every night. Damn. Congrats Metallica! See what putting out a great cd will get you? Now, about the follow up.... :)
