FASCIANA To Detractors: 'Believe What You Want! I'm Going To Band Practice! I Have A Life!'

MALEVOLENT CREATION guitarist Phil Fasciana has released another statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET in response to criticism over his claim that he was involved in a bizarre shootout at a convenient store in Florida on July 3, 2009. In two separate e-mails to BLABBERMOUTH.NET ( Story#1, Story#2, Story#3), Fasciana claimed that he interrupted a store robbery which led to him being shot at four times before he was able to disarm the "homeless crackhead" and pump two bullets into the thug's head. Commenting on Fasciana's claims, Detective Mark Shotwell of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department told U.K.'s Rock Radio that he's unable to find evidence that any such event ever took place. "This did not happen," Shotwell said. "Our last murder was on June 22 and Fasciana was not involved. I'm certain of this. Even if the death was a result of self-defense, it would still be classed as a homicide and investigated as such. "All witnesses, reportees, victims and suspects are entered into a database, but the most recent entry for Fasciana is on April 1, involving him and a female in a domestic dispute. "There are about 15 suburbs near Fort Lauderdale, but all murders use the Broward County Medical Examiner's office for autopsies — mandatory in a homicide. There have been no murders in the entire county during July." Fasciana sent the following e-mail to BLABBERMOUTH.NET earlier today (Thursday, July 9): "Concerning this idiotic debate over my involvement in an attempted robbery and shootout, I wish everyone would believe it is not true and leave me the fuck alone. "For all the retards who hide behind a computer all day at mommy's house and talk shit about rumors on Blabbermouth and other heavy metal-related websites, you need to get a life!!!! Get out of the house and maybe someone will try robbing and shooting you one day!!!! Then I would like to hear your reaction!!! "I never posted or told anyone but my brother about what happened to me afterwards. Why would I post something that horrible on Blabbermouth or anywhere on the Internet and have people know what I had just gone through? I found out by friends a day later that they read that news about on Blabbermouth. Why and who posted, I have no idea and it has nothing to do with music or my band, so why it would be on a website that is and used to be about finding out information about heavy metal bands and the news concerning the bands that have news to release about there bands future happenings and releases. Now it is just a big gossip column for people who have no life and talk shit about people." (For the record, Fasciana's latest e-mail was sent to BLABBERMOUTH.NET from the same e-mail address as the original message which contained the details of the alleged shooting incident. Phil subsequently confirmed to BLABBERMOUTH.NET that he is, in fact, in control of this e-mail account.) "This is the second incident I have been involved with that resulted in someone dying in South Florida and I'm glad they both were not glorified in the news and press. "A few years ago me and a friend were driving on a very busy street in Ft. Lauderdale when a drunk homeless man ran into the street and we ran him down and killed him and there was no way to avoid it. It was in the afternoon with many witnesses, and when the police arrived, we told them what happened and let us leave and that was the end of story!!! Me and my friend were mortified and there was no news about it or information given to us afterwards at anytime. "South Florida has bigger problems then homeless people robbing liquor stores and small corner stores with hopes of getting caught to go to jail purposely so they have a home for a few days!!! "My mother was robbed at gunpoint after leaving work and trying to make a money deposit after her work day and got robbed for over $25,000 of the store she manages money and never got any justice and there was no news or anything done for her. "Two of my good friends were gunned down in a Denny's restaurant parking lot and killed for no reason and nothing was done or had any news about what happened to them and that is heavy shit!!!! "Believe what you idiots want!!! This whole incident is as dead to me as the fool who tried killing me!!!!! This is why I haven't gone to Blabbermouth for music news a few years ago. There is hardly any music-related news. If someone in a band has a hangnail or stubbed their toe, it is reported on Blabbermouth and people shit-talk about it. "Some of you people need to get a real life. When something horrible or tragic happens to someone or someone's family that can create problems and drama, most people would like to keep that news out of press just like me. Because of retards that have nothing better to do than spread rumors and news, it's too late for me to have my family not know about what happened to me and has caused even more problems for me and my family. "And for the record, the robbery and shootout didn't happen in Ft. Lauderdale!! So there is some more wrong info for you idiots to debate about. "I have been in jail and arrested for many stupid things while living in South Florida and I never got to make the news down here and I'm glad!!!! As I'm sure many other people who have been involved with tragic or embarrassing incidents that got them involved or in trouble would like it as well. "Believe what you want!!! So....he emails Blabbermouth stating that he has no idea how the story leaked to the site from THE SAME email address that the original reports were sent from? And he already verified that he is, in fact, in charge of said email addy?

South Florida is a shithole,so he is telling some truth.
Blabbermouth also has a history of getting things very wrong,ommitting parts of peoples letters/posts,etc.
And another thing,i CAN NOT believe there hasnt been a murder/homicide in that area in July,thats just not possible.
Did this happen? At this point,who knows. Alot of BS goes on down there. Whether it was a real incident or a real good drug trip,guess it will come out eventually.
Ive met him a few times,seems like a cool person. So,i have no idea what to think about all this but Florida is a shithole,and crazy shit happens there all the time. But it has made for an interesting story on here.

Whether or not Phil made an ass of himself here, I still love MC as a band, but I do have an out of the box theory for all this madness...
We all know Blabbermouth is in some way affiliated with Roadrunner... Phil has made comments in the past about Roadrunner that weren't exactly positive... Maybe they are trying to make him look like an idiot by twisting these news stories... I'm not saying I believe this necessarily, but both sides of the story sound very hard to believe... Phil's written so many great songs and albums, and is very underrated in the DM scene... In my opinion, he deserves just as much respect and praise as Trey from Morbid Angel, but MC never got the mainstream exposure of bands like MA and CC because of stupid incidents... Kinda like this...
I don't think this story should effect what you think of a band. Phil's a cool dude, I've spoke with him via email before, and I know people who have hung out with him, and they all had nothing but good things to say... I'm holding off on any opinions of him until I hear more on this... As far as I can see, none of these news stories lead to any conclusion.

The 10 Commandments and Retribution are DM classics. This story doesn't affect my perception of the band at all. As legionary frank said all of these stories are inconclusive, as there are simply not enough facts and way too much grey area. I personally dont care if its true or not, although the thought of Phil going all Deathwish on the community is awesome!

There is a simple solution: Name the store, it's location and the clerk that "witnessed" the event! Or better yet, get the surveillance tape!
The police said there had been no homicides in that town since June 22. I believe the police, not Phil. My question is, why did he make up such an unbelievable story? Truth be told, we'll all forget about this as soon as Blabbermouth stops posting about it.

Malevolent Creation are not a bad band and they do indeed have their moments, even on their new records, but really have not reached the height of their first two records in many years. Perhaps Phil should get on fixing that instead of creating a delusional alternate reality of himself as a crime fighter. I'll still listen to them for sure, I just hope a) the quality control is a little tighter on a new record than on the last few and b) every time I listen to them that chocolate milk doesn't shoot through my nose when I start laughing as I think of this story.
Seriously dude, who can resist this? It could be about the guitar player of the best band of all time and people would still be busting his balls. If fucking Tony Iommi or Kerry King lied about busting some caps into a crackhead when he went in to buy some chocolate milk we'd fuck with them too. The best comment of the day is that Six Feet Under has better riffs than Morbie Angel. OBVIOUSLY you know NOTHING about guitar playing or music for that matter. If you think that Six Feet Under's two chords per song riffs are better than Trey who is one of the greatest death metal guitarist of all time you seriously have no clue what you are talking about. As for MC they haven't had a good album since "Envenomed" and out of a massive catalog they have few good albums compared to the shitty albums. I think the photo is awesome and so what if it is very TMZ like I think Phil must have pissed off Bori somehow for him to go this far.

1. It is clear that you have severe ADD, but could you try to slow it down enough to keep all your thoughts together and into one post instead of writing one after another after another? I almost had an anxiety attack just reading all those posts you made. I don't know how you got through Harvard with writing such as this.
2. This line is classic - "you kids dont know shit about metal im fuckin 24". Well I'm "fucking" 39 and have been listening to this genre (thrash, death, black, whatthefuckever) pretty much since it started, so I am not quite a "kid". I admit that 6FU have their moments, but with the extensive knowledge gained in your long 24 years, you should already know that many people find that most of their shit is boring. Most death metal fans not only agree with that but further more don't even consider them death metal at all. I tried to like them, believe me. I think Barnes was the best singer of CC and I really wanted to like 6FU but I found most of it boring as hell. I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume you like weed, and apparently you need to smoke a lot of it to fully enjoy Six Feet Under. Does the Dean of your Masters Degree program know that you smoke so much marijuana?
3. I like a good groove as much as the next guy, but most people don't think that groove is always the most important component of good death metal. But if you think the primary quality of great music regardless of genre is always groove, fuck metal - go put on a 1970's era James Brown record. The groove on a great JB's jam fucking destroys ANY metal record. I am not kidding.
4. I personally loved Pantera, but you have to be crazy to not realize that you saying "six feet under's the pantera of the deathmetal genre" is not considered to be a compliment by most death metal fans.
Calling 6FU the ultimate death metal band is so absurd that it is almost a sure sign of a troll, but I am convinced you are not a troll, just a super stoned dude. Have some Cool Ranch Doritos for me and get back to work on your musicology Master's thesis "The video games death metal singers play, and its effect on music and the videogame industry".
I can't even believe I am engaging in this conversation because our time would be better spent mocking Phil Fasciana's fake crime fighting exploits.

Flying boxes of Nesquick with the sippy straw attached flung at Phil at various MC shows. He may never live this down. As for Malevolent Creation, this little phony story shouldn't affect the rest of them much and doesn't affect how I feel about their music. For me, their best release is Retribution and they haven't been able to top that album. Everything else has been ok or mediocre at best.
Also, there is no way in hell SFU is better than Morbid Angel EVER! Compare Alters of Madness or Blessed are the Sick to ANY death metal album and they will clearly stand up on their own. Death, however, will ALWAYS be my favorite and miss expecting a new Death release. R.I.P. Chuck! Let the metal flow....

MC not making a great album since Retribution? What were Eternal, Envenomed, and The Will To Kill then? Those were stellar releases with tons of catchy songs. Phil is a death metal legend whether you wanna admit it or not. Kerry King couldn't hold his jock when it comes to riffs, but then again, talking to Slayer fan boys is just as bad as talking to Tallica fan boys.
How can anyone come to a conclusion on anything either Fasciana or Blabbermouth said here? I didn't actually here this radio clip where the police officer said anything. Maybe the police officer is make believe too. Maybe everyone here is being set up to believe this. It would be one helluva promotional effort for the band. They always say NO SUCH THING AS NEGATIVE PRESS! Guarantee a group of people in on this (Blabbermouth, Fasciana) is having a big laugh at all you goons coming to conclusions. I expect a few more news stories on this in the next few days.

I find the first two LP's to be the best. That is just my opinion, but I'd say not a lone one. Eternal was not bad musically, but I didn't like Jason as a vocalist compared to Brett, and beyond that he is a Neanderthal douche. Envenomed didn't strike me as having many great songs. Same goes for Will To Kill and like Jason, I don't like Kyle's vocals compared to Brett. There are fantastic riffs on those albums for sure, but not a lot of great songs IMO. I don't particularly like the production on them either, sometimes they are too digital and polished (you can tell when some of the vocals are getting "punched in") and I sometimes think the drums sound like a drum machine and are too loud in the mix. And I did notice that while you are trying to convince us of MC's genius, you didn't mention anything past 2002...
And Kerry King can't hold Phil Fasciana's jock? And the only way someone can have a different opinion is if they are a fanboy? You are hitting the same pipe Phil's imaginary victim did and Phil himself would tell you that you are full of shit because I guarantee that motherfucker worships Slayer (although with his recent spotty history telling the truth he'll probably say his biggest influence is Mariah Carey depending on when you ask him). With later MC albums you can see he started listening to some Black Metal as well, but his primary influence is Slayer, hands down. Slayer is a clear influence on the entire death metal genre and while the genre may have evolved, when it comes specifically to MC, they often just sound like fucking Slayer with blast beats added. Not that I think that's bad. I love prime Slayer and think MC is pretty great too at times. But seriously, how do you pull shit like writing that piece of revisionist history? Are you deaf? I don't even know how someone could even like MC and not like Slayer, because they sound so similar.
And that "fanboy" business is a just a copout. Why don't you just say, "I have an opinion that hardly anyone else shares, and I have no logical justification for it or at least can't express it well, so I'll just call anyone who disagrees a fanboy." And by the way, I'd say there are a lot of people who like Slayer. They are just one of the biggest and most influential Metal bands of all time. And has Slayer reached the quality of "Hell Awaits" or "South of Heaven" since? The answer is NO... A lot of bands can never reach the quality of their early stuff... It's just the way it is... Musicians get lazier, and less original as they get older, but MC's new stuff is miles ahead of Slayer's new stuff, that's for damn sure... Granted the production on the last two albums wasn't great, but it wasn't as bad as people on here say it was... Besides, Slayer last few stinkers has had terrible production too... MC is one of the more consistent DM bands around... They never really made a stinker of an album... Morbid Angel, and CC can't say the same...
If everyone followed the logic of "Yeah, Slayer's more influential and has sold more albums", then very few bands could touch them... You're right that Slayer has been copied by more bands than anyone else, but Slayer has been one of the most boring bands in metal in the past decade and a half... I'm sure I won't make many fans by saying that, but their last like 3 albums have been horrendous, and that's being generous... Even the "new track" that leaked a while ago is awful... Time for Kerry to hang it up... I can name many musicians who were influenced by someone, then went on to become better than that guy...
MC has done a lot of stupid shit before, which is why they aren't a popular band... They never had a steady lineup either, but I can tell you with a straight face, MC has far superior riffs than Slayer, and it's really not even close... Slayer has recycled more riffs than any other band in history... Yes they practically started a genre, but they are not even a band to take seriously anymore... Kreator, Testament, Exodus, and even the new Megadeth song sound far more inspired and fresh than Slayer has in years...
Sorry to hurt your feelings dude... As for this whole comedy show going on right now between Phil and Blabbermouth... I never said I was sure that this was a set up... Neither side has done a very good job of convincing us who's right or who's wrong... I can bet you this was a promotional stunt... The economy's rough... I don't know how this monkey business has turned into a Slayer contest but...
Slayer hasn't been as good in recent years on record (although there's only been a couple), I didn't say they were, but they still have their moments and I think the new Psychopathy Red song is fantastic. But for you, I don't think it matters what they do because you are just anti-Slayer. Maybe you feel betrayed by them because they aren't as consistent as they used to be. I don't know, but you sure hate you some Slayer. They could do Reign In Blood Part 2 and you'd think it was shit because you just hate them. Which is fine.
But I still think you are crazy if you think MC has better riffs than Slayer. Slayer invented the riffs Phil Fasciana bases his shit on. Slayer lives in his musical DNA and is the primary piece of his puzzle. How you like one and not the other I'll never know.
And I love Exodus, but I didn't think the last album was that great. Live they are still a powerhouse, but the new stuff feels boring to me, live and on record. And as much as I like them I have never thought Testament and Kreator were ever as good as Slayer. And Megadeth have sucked forever. And if you think about it, people only give those bands props now because at one time or another they all got shitty and stopped playing shit as heavy as they did before. Then they came back heavy again, in some cases heavier than ever, so now everyone gives them props for being true to the cause or whatever and un-selling out. Slayer may not write songs as good as they did before (although I would argue the same for every band in this thread), but they have ALWAYS stayed heavy. Never stopped being heavy as fuck Slayer. So when they never change they don't get your respect as comeback kids and may even come off as boring - but it's because they never left and never sold out. Ever.
But you are allowed to like who you want, I just think you are wrong, especially when in comes to MC vs. Slayer, which is just ridiculous. C'est la vie.
On to the topic at hand - you say you didn't say it was a setup, then you say it's a promotional stunt. So I am confused at what it is you exactly believe. I don't think it was a set-up for a few different reasons. Phil is not acting like a person would who set the whole thing up. He is acting like a dude caught in a lie. And it was either the first or second thread where James Murphy came to defend him and was convinced that Phil was on the level. If you were pulling a promotional stunt, when your friend of 20+ years calls you and says "Holy shit, I herd about the shootout, are you OK", your answer is "Don't worry dude, it's just a stunt", not make him think it's true as well, so he comes into a public forum and then looks like a dick for sticking up for you. You only do that when you are being a crazy liar. None of it looks to me like a stunt.
But if you are right and it was a stunt, then Phil Fasciana is a complete idiot. He didn't get much coverage outside of the Metal press that covers him and puts out his press releases anyway, and he just made himself look like a tool. And god forbid if he gets press outside of the metal community, he'll look like a psycho and make metalheads look like dumbshits. Thanks Phil.
Finally, and I am kind of insulted by this, I don't know how I astound you by coming to my conclusions especially because I usually explain how I get to them, thus the long ass posts. I am an intelligent, well reasoned human being. I think and stuff. And therefore draw conclusions. You drew your conclusions (that it is a publicity stunt) through a computer. So no one else can? Slayer... I used to be a big fan, but to me they have been one of the most overrated bands of all time... The Hot Topic clowns who go around saying "Reign In Blood" is the greatest album ever are so annoying... Even Slayer themselves wouldn't even tell you that... I do hold an album like "Hell Awaits" to high regard, but I just don't see how anyone could take a Slayer album over Kreator's "Coma Of Souls" or Megadeth's "Rust In Peace"... Slayer may have invented a style of playing metal, but they've been a one trick pony for years, their solos are comical (and please don't say that it wouldn't be Slayer without them... Wouldn't hurt to write 1 good one every now and then!), and while those thrash bands I listed got softer at one point in their careers, that doesn't take away from the fact that Kerry was on a Sum 41 video, and wrote an album as horrific as "God Hates Us All"... Slayer laid out the blue prints for many bands (kudos to them!), but many bands after them, even in their era, were far superior... Kreator for example... "Pleasure To Kill" or "Coma Of Souls"... Pick your orgasm... Both albums make Slayer look like Brittany Spears or Michael Jackass in comparison... King and Hanneman are sloppy as fuck on recordings, and on stage... Kudos again for being huge influences, but once you hear a Slayer song, you've heard em all.
Brett Hoffman, not distinguishable from any other DM vocalist? Are you kidding me? He's probably top 3 in DM ALL TIME... Nobody sounds like him... His performance on "Retribution" is one of the most terrifying vocal performances in metal history, and those who have heard the album, would certainly agree... Araya is a classic voice, no doubt, but I just don't understand this logic of "This band has been around longer, and influenced more bands, so automatically that makes them untouchable"... Bands cover other bands... It's been going on forever... I honestly fail to see any distinct similarity between MC's riffs and Slayer's riffs...
Everyone's quick to bash Metallica, and say they are this, and they are that, but Slayer has not grown one bit musically in over 25 years of writing music, whereas Metallica at least tried to do different shit (even if it sucked ass)... And don't pull the album sales crap... What is this rap we're talking about?... Slayer may sell out buildings, but they are living off records of the past... You can't convince me that their recent music is any good... I'll take "Envenomed" and "The Will To Kill" over any Slayer since "South Of Heaven" BY FAR.

Frank, just had to respond to what you said a couple of posts earlier. I think "Reign In Blood" is one of the greatest albums of all time and the greatest Slayer album and I am way too old to be a Hot Topic kid, ha ha. I think it's all up to personal taste. Hell Awaits, which I love as well, has more intricate longer songs, while Reign In Blood are more stripped down hardcore blasts with no filler, and I prefer that. I like the production more as well.
I think Reign In Blood gets a lot of shit nowadays because for so long it was a stock answer to the question "What is the greatest Thrash album of all time", so people want to knock it down because it became almost a cliche and yes, an automatic answer for people who aren't really qualified to answer the question in the first place. But like most cliches, it was born of the truth and when people who have no clue thoughtlessly throw it out as the best, it is really because people who DO have a clue threw it out all the time.
And I hear the criticism that it sounds generic, but it only seems generic because literally 1000's of bands have been borrowing from it for 20+ years. I bought it the week it came out and it blew my mind and many others in a way Hell Awaits didn't, and it really changed everything for both the Hardcore scene and Metal scene. Everyone I knew listened to it over and over again and it really blew Slayer up. With 23 years of distance the repercussions have obviously died down, but I still think it is a fucking crushing record.
And I agree with you about Brett Hoffman, I think he is one of the best death metal vocalists of all time as well. There are a lot of generic death metal vocalists, but he is far from one of them.

can't believe he would conjure up these stories..and then claims they once hit a drunk guy in the afternoon..and the police cut him free. of course, they'd least be charged with involuntary manslaughter.
i thought retribution was an "ok" mediocre death metal album...but after this...it just takes 'em down so many pegs. they tried being controverial sporting some racist t's a few years back...but this is certainly no way to get attention making a fool outta yourself..

I never said Araya was not a classic vocalist... I guess my whole point from the start was, MC is a legendary DM band... They had arguably one of the brightest futures in metal after releasing two KILLER records to start off their career, but drugs became a problem, and caused things to fall apart... They just never got their act together, had too many lineup changes, never had the fan support after the problems with Roadrunner, and the KKK T-Shirt incident made things worse... A real shame... As for Hoffman's banter... Haha, Araya's banter is no better... Besides, both guy's are old and legends in their respective genres (Thrash and Death metal), so our argument here is pointless...

"Diablous in Musica" practically had a rap metal song on it, "God Hates Us All" was bordering Nu Metal, and the last one was a poor attempt at regaining what they once had...
Listen, if it turns out that Phil is 100% wrong about this story, and Blabbermouth was 100% right, I'll be the first one to say "I was wrong, You were right"... I may have got a little defensive on my side, but drawing conclusions through the internet is never a wise choice... I used to do it too, and it turned out I was wrong, so I'm giving MC the benefit of the doubt here... This just sounds silly, and I'm waiting for an official interview where I see Phil in the flesh talking about what happened... For all we know, someone could have hacked into Phil's account and started this... I'm not implying that it happened, but when it comes to the internet, anything is possible... I've had a dickhead hack into my account before, and I'm a no name right now... Shit happens...
