CHRIS CORNELL: Pro-Shot Footage Of OPTIMUS ALIVE! 09 Performance Available - July 11, 2009
Portuguese TV channel SIC aired professionally filmed video footage of former SOUNDGARDEN/AUDIOSLAVE singer Chris Cornell's performance at the Optimus Alive! 09 festival, which was held July 9-11, 2009 at Passeio Marítimo de Algés in Oeiras, Portugal. Watch the clips below.

Cornell told RollingStone.com on Wednesday (July 8) that while he and other former members of SOUNDGARDEN have been talking, they have not been discussing a much-rumored reunion. Instead, Cornell explained, "The only thing that we have talked about is trying to put together an album of B-sides and maybe a box set with some unreleased tracks we have. This is something we first talked about 10 years ago. We all feel it's time to do that, and we have a lot of fans out there, and we have a lot of new fans discovering our music, and I think the catalog and the legacy of the band has been ignored by the record label and previous management, so we decided to get together, and start working towards putting something like that out."

Cornell told The Pulse of Radio a while back that he hoped to see a collection of SOUNDGARDEN rarities come out, but that he was not directly involved. "I've sort of left that in Kim (Thayil, guitarist)'s world, because Kim had always talked about wanting to be in charge of doing, like, a box set or a B-sides album," he said. "That was something that he had mentioned years ago, and I'm sure at some point he will want to do it, and that's I guess when it'll get done. I don't know how much actual unreleased stuff is out there, but there's definitely some SOUNDGARDEN rarities stuff that the average fan has not heard and it would be nice to put out."

SOUNDGARDEN recorded a large amount of B-sides, including cover songs and original tracks, that were mostly released on European singles and EPs. Many of them are now difficult to find.

Cornell denied to RollingStone.com that the band would reunite for a tour next year, but left the door open, saying, "I've always said nothing is impossible . . . I want to be open to anything, but nothing has changed in terms of our attitude toward it. It takes somebody to really stand up and say, 'We should do this, we have to go do this, let's go do this,' and so far, no one has raised their hand to do that. Still, it's not impossible."

SOUNDGARDEN broke up in 1997 after five albums, but rumors started swirling earlier this year about a reunion, with one source telling The Pulse of Radio directly that negotiations were underway.

Cornell has been touring in support of his 2008 Timbaland-produced solo album, "Scream", which has bitterly divided fans over its urban pop sound.

Just HOW deaf are you?! The band is PERFECT. Cornell is so sick (great), I had to laugh. How can he never lose anything? I think he held off on some of the REALLY HIGH SG screams, to save his voice. Hey....thinking of the rest of his career. Jesus, I will pay to see him in any form, next time he's near. These clips blew me away.

We get it, he's not writing the kind of music that some of would like. Scream sucked. But it's the kind of music he wants to write, and more power to him. He's not obligated to suck your dick and write the kind of music you want to hear. His only obligation is to write the kind of music he wants to, and you can either like it or not. But holding it against him personally his retarded.

Anyways, he sounds better live now than he did in the Audioslave days, and in a lot of cases, he sounds better than he did in a lot of Soundgarden bootlegs. He's never going to sound as good as he did in the very early nineties, but if you take an honest look back, he was never the most amazing live singer in most cases. He's sounding better than he has in ages.

COMMENT | He's got a great repertoire too choose from...

(excluding Scream, of course)...but is it me, or he just seems bored up there?

You'd figure those vocals would convey more emotion from him.

I've been reading Blabbermouth for years now and never joined. But today I had to. I'm a fan of Soundgarden (not a diehard far but enjoy their music and think they are one of the better so-called Seattle bands; way, way, way better than Nirvana) and somewhat of a fan of Audioslave and not really a fan of Chris Cornell's new cd. I love all kinds of music and just feel that if it's good, it's good. I've heard for a long time that Chris doesn't have a voice anymore and can't sing live. I have to say that he may not be able to hit the high notes like he used to, but I think he sounded really good in these videos.

And for those of you who say the band sucks, all I can say is that you are all a bunch of fucking idiots. The music was incredible. You bunch of dorks who sit in your bedroom and think you are musicians because you beat around on your Muppet drumset like Animal, need to realize that you don't know shit about music. Just because you are pissed that Chris isn't part of Soundgarden anymore, doesn't mean you need to diss his band or him. The utter ignorance of your dumb ass, uneducated, illogical statements is pathetic.

@Slave2Grind

yeah, you're right. lol. I love Soundgarden too, there s no argument their a great hard rock (ok, grunge...) band, but just go and listen to some live version of Let Me Drown of the old band and then come back to this one. You ll see my point.

....that there are a few people with ears posting on here lately. Those who say this live band are stiff or fake or soulless are talking crap. Just blind brand loyalty to the Soundgarden name - I mean wake up these guys are better players than thayil & co ever were, with the possible exception of Matt Cameron who was & is great - but CC's new drummer's pretty much on a level with him anyway. CC's voice is better live now than it ever was with Audioslave and better than the final stages of Soundgarden. He's been touring his ass off since 2007 and has just been getting better & better - seen a couple of shows of his in London (Roundhouse in 2007 & Shephersd Bush Empire in 2009) which might just be the best shows I'd ever seen him do, & I seen him with both his bands and solo. So yeah, kudos to Million Dollar Man, scottismusprime & Slave2Grind for talking some fucking sense and the rest of you, piss off back to hatersville.
